Honestly, I'm surprised the concept wasn't any more obvious: using the Time Eater as a way to have Shadow reunite with Maria (and Gerald).
I doubt they will return completely or forever. I guess, they will appear only in this game, but they will have to disappear yet again for saving world purpose. But who knows...? Maybe, they will appear completely?

@@iljafedorenko3080 The announcer implied that you'd have to set the timeline back to normal, and so far, we can assume that this takes place alongside Sonic's run of Generations, so we're really just seeing a different POV of the same story Ala SA1 and 2.
If it's anything like the Shadow the Hedgehog game, he's probably going to have a choice of either saving Maria or setting the timeline right, which'll be one hell of a gut punch to look forward to.

I was moreso expecting the Rival Battle to kick off (both campaigns will briefly intersect; Last Story asking for too much?) because Shadow doesn't want Sonic blurting out her eventual fate (if she crosses paths with him first).

@@reylimichel8023 Even with less levels, it probably is. With the whole frontiers style open world hub world attached to it and with what levels it does have being around double the length of the average gens level.

@@jockson7574 I doubt we're gonna see an Unleashed, Colors, or Lost World stage here, otherwise we would have seen *something* from one of the trailers. IMO Lost World's tone doesn't really gel well with what we've soon so far from Shadow Generations (same reason why I don't think we're getting an Unleashed or Colors stage), not to mention that it would just be plain weird to see stage slots for a Shadow game to be taken up by... what, Asteroid Coaster and Frozen Factory? As funny as it would be to see Shadow riding in a roller coaster or encased in a big snowball, it would be pretty jarring compared to the other stages we've seen.

@@lukasruston8618 Why should they be stuck in the past when they could have a happier future? A happy ending for Shadow and Maria doesn’t have to ruin their story at all. People can grow and change, and that includes their relationships. But I don't disagree with your idea either. Whether it's a bittersweet or an uplifting conclusion, I hope it's a well executed ending.

I’m really hoping that we get Infinite as a rival battle alongside Mephiles, the two are usually put together and with Sunset heights it would only make sense.

Look say what you will about Sega, the games’ quality, or the fandom, but Sonic has been cooking grommet meals these past few years. The best part is they listen to the fans.
People have been saying for YEARS to bring back Mephiles because he was the best part of 06’s story. And the time travel shenanigans of Generations would’ve been the time. He’s perfect for a Shadow story because he was the antagonist of Shadow’s 06 story. I hope he talks and it’s not just a lame silent battle.
Not that I’m complaining by why is Metal Overlord a Shadow exclusive boss? He didn’t even fight him the first time. Biolizard is really his only giant monster boss (aside from Devil Doom). We did have the general’s mech as a boss. Still looks like a great boss tho.
This might be too much to hope for, and since this game takes place a few games ago in the timeline, but it would be awesome if he’s able to save Maria and bring her back to his time. But I doubt that’ll happen. He’ll at least get to say goodbye.
And sounds like there’s maybe gonna be a little retconning? The game Shadow the Hedgehog was a mess that contradicted SA2. Great for the lore but maybe they’ll make it a little cleaner.
My excitement is through the roof! Shadow is my favorite character, and seeing him in another game and the movie makes me the happiest person on earth.
Notice how time eater's portal opens the same way the phantom ruby opened a portal in mania. Infinite is almost here guys!!!!!!
And I never thought of this but metal overlord may only be phase 2 of his boss fight so neo metal may be phase 1.
Its also interesting that they pose time eater as the one who sends shadow back to maria and gerald, this might be the first time if any where we see him cry. But beside that this might mean that the theory of the time eater being mephiles true because I doubt eggman was controling him until the final fight and I don't think we would want to go back and change shadow's history's, nor would he really need too. But mephlis would have a greater reason if he is in control of or he is the time eater.
Infinite is probably the reason why Classic Eggman found his modern counterpart.

I feel like the Sonics are dealing with the robots and eventual main villaisn, while Shadow deal with the deadlier ones. Silver possibly handling the massive grunts and stuff.

This might just be speculation but 0:50 looks a lot like Infinite, mainly by the hair (it doesn't really look like the Terios skin). Not sure if he'll be a boss or skin in the final game but maybe it'll hint at something.

This is indeed amazing. Considering that Sonic The Hedgehog (2006) literally erased Mephiles from existance along side with Iblis i thought will never see him again, kinda glad that the Time Eater and Black Doom are basically tearing the fabric of time and maybe even dimensions of Shadow's memories to vet this cool returns. I'm mencioning the Time Eater due to Eggman trying to use it to manipulate time.

In other videos we see more footage of this scene and basically, while time was frozen during a chaos control he threw/kicked/punched a ton of stuff at metal overlord. Then he unfreezes time and everything he threw goes flying at metal overlord.
I figured Mephiles would be here, but......closure with Gerald and Maria was something I should have seen given the premise of time travel
