HEyyy Don't mind me im just passing throughhh, , , ,
You can really tell how much of a passion project this was; shame to hear that the dev lost the enthusiasm needed to keep it going, but what was completed by 2018 was definitely worth seeing in action.
maybe he'll stumble upon this video one day and get inspired to finish it. i have a feeling that he's a fan of vinny based on the museum of anything goes references.
I mean, as a aspiring solo dev myself - how DO you even finish something like this?
It feels more like a concept than a game, you could add infinite amount of stuff to this and still consider it not finished.
I bet my ass that this also suffers badly from cascading ideas - you have a checklist of stuff to add, but as you add stuff it generates new ideas and the list just grows larger as you work your way trough it.
@@David-wo7nt a quality that I really appreciate! just cool stuff to see and poke at with no goal necessarily
Who’s to really say what’s finished and what’s not in this case. Maybe things just are. They exist and that’s enough.
@@David-wo7ntthere actually is an ending. you just have to access it via the debug menu. you're supposed to give offerings to all of the brains in the eye.cup world, restart the computer and the ending sequence starts, but the game crashes when you try to restart the computer. everything else is functional as far as i can tell.
Bro I love this aesthetic, the sounds, the music, mmm. For anyone wanting to do stuff like this in 3D: "Pixar One Twenty Eight" is a collection of textures from Pixar in 1993 for some vintage material.
It's actually quite amazing how well they captured that 90's feel.
I miss these kind of games so much
What a surreal but neat experience this was, do like that old point and click adventure feel this game has.
Holy shit, this game is amazing, even in the state it's in. It's worth going through it with the guide from the Internet Archive page once you've explored it a bit. The ending sequence that's accessible with the debug menu is also great.
I can't believe this game has been out there for five years with barely anyone knowing about it. Here's hoping this stream will bring it the amount of attention it deserves.
The lexoccisor music made the whole stream for me
I KNOWWWW it's the fucking best
loved the vibe of this, i hope more things are made like this too
37:56 I had a goddamn asthma attack from laughing so hard when chat said that. I can't unsee it omfg
16:12 New Red Vox song
1:13:33 My inner George Takei just spoke to me... um 😰
Wait. Isn't FlamingOS mentioned IN hypnospace outlaw???
FlamingOS is what normal PC users use to access the internet. Hypnospace and it's competitors were VR OS based hardware.
Someone finish this game I'm begging you
frogsauce early episode
Why does the rabbit sound like the museum of anything goes guy?
Terminal frost is such a good song
i miss when PCs clicked and growled
The soundtrack to the Tetris game was fire asf I don’t even care
Sup
I love when Vinny plays these highly atmospheric PC games from the late 80's/early 90's. Obviously this is just one made in that style, but the point stands.
I'm surprised Vinny didn't notice the museum of anything goes reference at 1:08:38 the tricycle and carriage are right there
I was thinking how a lot of this vibes with that game. First thought of it when he started clicking on the rabbit
"Don't go in there! Look what happened to me..."
With this and mallow, we've entered the vinesauce frog arc
we already had a legitimate kermit vinesauce arc lmao
This is great. It's like KidPix and Clippy and Mist and Donkey Kong Country and danooct1 all mixed together. If any zoomers here were wondering what it was like to use a computer around 1997-2003, this is it.
Speaking of which, I'm surprised Vinny didn't notice the DKC-ness of the music. 25:48 sounds like it was clipped from Stickerbrush Symphony.
i immediately thought the same thing
Yeah late 90’s-early 2000’s vibes
Why danooct1
technically I'm a zoomer (1999) and I know exactly what you mean, used to play kidpix all the time, loved that old piece of software, still remember the cookie monster undo sound effects, watching vinny play this game is kinda upsetting though
This is the aesthetic that really does it for me. Late 90s/Early 2000s multimedia/shareware CD-ROMs with tons of weird surreal shiny pre-rendered CGI and genreless MIDI music. 2D graphics that abused Photoshop's gradient, bevel and emboss features. Unfitting low-bitrate sound effects on games. Moraffware games had this exact aesthetic and I was so weirded out yet attracted to it as a kid.
I've been following this game since 2017. I used to talk to the dev, really wanting to see it finished. I offered to finish it for them and they almost let me (I think). But yeah, I'm glad we at least get this much of it. I would like to see more weird 90's throwback point and clicks that are an earnest attempt at capturing that feel, without just relying on irony. I liked Hypnospace Outlaw, but this feels a lot more genuine and less jokey. It truly feels like it came from the time period. I would like to see more sincere work with this feel.
I think the genre/medium of point and click (Macromedia Director, Macromedia Directorcore) is seriously under explored. I would like to see more stuff that picks up where iNSCAPE left off. Stuff like The Dark Eye and Bad Day On The Midway. Those multimedia experiences-I hesitate to call them games-were extremely immersive and transporting. Truly unique. Immersive interaction without the need for conventional narrative. I think the medium of point-and-click with pre-rendered CG graphics has genuine strengths that are its own, and it's not fair to just look at something like Myst or Riven and say "it would have been realtime 3D the whole time if it could have been." There's a new realtime 3D remake of Riven on its way, and that's cool, but... the original was incredibly immersive as-is. I think that says something. Changing the medium changes the message.
I wrote a little "manifesto" some years ago after seeing Frog Days called "The Directorcore Manifesto" and it's on itchio if you look for it. It was a sort of "call to arms" to invite people to explore making games in this format. It's been a while and I probably don't still agree with everything in that document but I still feel strongly about the general principle. Maybe now is the time...
If anybody is curious, IIRC the tools the dev was using for this game were Blender for the graphics and Adventure Game Studio for the engine. I really wish there was something like Macromedia Director now that would make building something like this easier.
Why didn’t he let you finish it?
@@gvd72 I don't know. I guess I didn't follow up with them and didn't want to push it.
Making a point-and-click isn't too hard, but man, I wish there were more resources for making 3D graphics like this in Blender. I just can't figure out how to make anything look like this, other than just making it low poly. This game absolutely *nails* the aesthetic of the period it's trying to emulate.
@@Zorochase for this sort of thing I don't think "low poly" is the necessarily the answer. You wouldn't approach it like you're approaching making assets for a typical game. A lot of objects in older renders have their geometry smoothed during rendering in a way you don't see with realtime 3D graphics, for example. I think it's more about using more primitive lighting and shading. No global illumination (although, I see it in Frog Days). Use point lights and spot lights. Phong and Blinn shaders. No PBR. Low res textures. Also, final renders should be 8-bit (i.e. 256 colors), 480p or 240p. You can easily use a tool like Imagemagick to do that last part. I wish I had some examples to show you but I don't. Maybe I can try to make a scene like this as a weekend project.
@@ArtFluidsI appreciate the correction and clarification. I think I need more practice with setting up scenes in Blender anyway, as I usually only use it to model/texture and use a game engine (Godot) to do the rendering. I've always wanted to make something like this game, but for now I'll stick to making PlayStation graphics lol
Wow... never in my life did I think we'd get a spiritual successor to Museum of Anything Goes
I loved see this game, sad that is incomplete and gonna stay like that
HE PLAYED FROG DAYSSSSS, I mean, I still don't know what frog days really is but im excited for him to play the game because this is the half prequel to hypnospace outlaw
I really really hope this gives this game the exposure it deserves, maybe someone will even go in and finish it, you never know
39:53 Once again, Dink has overloaded the system.
I'm so glad that Vinny somehow managed to find this game! I stumbled upon it around a year ago and thought it was genuinely really charming. If anyone is reading this, I'd highly recommend you check it out for yourself. Vinny only managed to find about 20% of the worlds you can visit so there's definitely much more to see for yourself that wasn't covered in this playthrough, or any other recorded playthrough that I can find.
i wanna live in this game
36:30 Wow, it's like I'm really on DeviantArt.
The music/ambiance is bloody brilliant
Oh my god at 1:01:30 the whole sub-game is a huge reference to Eastern Mind: The Lost Souls of Tong Nou!!! That's such a deep cut, I thought Vinny would remember (unless his and Dez' interactions about it was just something my mind made up)
Especially with the dialogue that comes up and such. Man I love this game
Didn't know what you meant until I saw the red text.
The frog days are over
The frog days are done
The ducks are coming
So you better run
Run fast for your mother, run fast for your father
Run for your children, for your sisters and brothers
Leave all your love and your longing behind
You can't carry it with you if you want to survive
Truly a hidden gem
This is legendary, it reminds me of Garage Bad Dream Adventure! So obscure yet so interesting and nostalgic
This is what you get when you ask for Vinny to do a windows destruction.
speaking of that, i bet joel would love this game
This was so much fun
This is the coolest game ever
I also thought that Dink was supposed to be Mike at 38:00
The in game desktop gives off that, "you have 8 million viruses and spywares on your pc" vibe. With all the random popups and general screen clutter we've got going on there. I love it. XD
Cool. Literally 90s Taco Bell decor lol @1:15:49
11:06 2K Sports, take notes.
Swish sfx for menu selections.
Think about it.
21:28 no speed Luigi? I'm dissapoint.
40:01 Vinny stops drawing stuff
Wish this was higher up
40 years old and doesn't know who debussy is
This was great, i didn't know it was made recently and only in the store of ye Olde edutainment pc games.
manglepaw is another game like this btw
That’s a purple care bear I think, not teletubby
The computer starting up sounded like someone taking a soul killing shit
Funny there's no mention of it in the top comments, but...
Frog Days was made by Brian Carnrike, who then got featured as the fictional artist Zaréd in Hypnospace Outlaw.
So if those two games give a similar vibe, that's why.
I bet the hypnospace outlaw dev is looking at this like "fuck I shoulda done this as a spinoff but now it won't be an original idea now I've seen this" (because the hypnospace dev definitely watches vinny)
The dev behind this game did music for hypnospace outlaw so. He was very open about this game being one of his inspirations.
Myst vibes on the graphics. I love it.
At 24:53 the music was bumpin.
Any relation to Frog Fractions?
ah yes frog fractions 5
Hey flamingOS That's the predecessor OS mentioned in hypnospace outlaw
this game is the bomb
Cute of you to think we'll still be around in 3,000 years
This is so authentic I wanted to download more ram.
soooooooooo is there like a unfinished version we can play?
its in the description
id like to see more of this
3:26 Nasukkin is the rare person that read Rimworld's lore primer.
I love things like this so much. Sad it's not finished :(
42:41 nah, its momentary lapse of reason
dude what hell man you don't see me peeing
This game was such an unexpected treat. I absolutely love games that have that 90s art style and atmosphere. It's a real shame the dev stopped working on this game to pursue other.. interests
Yeah, we got to see a lot of cool shit during stream
**Meatophobia intensifies**
what do you mean other interests?
@@hecticscone my lawyer has instructed me to not discuss this topic any further
I don't think the dev is doing anything these days. The most recent thing that they have done was post on Twitter back in 2019.
I know I should've taken shrooms for this
this game looks gorgeous
Vinny needs to play Northern Journey
i hope someone uploads a playlist of this game's soundtrack. it's really nice.
Not me waiting for this game to be about frogs
Sleep counter: 47
I love frog days!
I wish frogs were real
this is so 90s
My day
wtf is this game
insane horror game
1:13:34
Dinosaur person appears at 1:11:20
“Man its a shame the developer went on to do *_furry dating sims_*, how grody”
Y’all in the comments need to be given a swirly i swear to god
bruh, it is way more than that lmao
If you're a programmer who loves the early internet there's a 90% chance you're a furry I don't understand why anybody is surprised lmao
@@rr53213rr You say it like it the dev deceived everyone in the process of not doing one thing, and doing unrelated thing instead.
@@rr53213rr mm ok, that's fair I guess. Rather I was suprised by how many chatmembers assumed like it was abandoned specifically in favor of dev's other interests.
@@rr53213rrwell obviously now I’m dying to know what the “other shit” is
Me: ok one second just need to get into the mindset.
*consecutive copious bong rips and coughing*
Me: I'm ready
I can't recall ever feeling like Vinny overreacts to anything,
but that was a surprisingly serious/harsh reaction at 37:55 for a pretty harmless comment in my personal opinion, especially considering the face he drew just looks like a normal cartoonish face without any directly insulting characteristics. I'm going to assume there has been more malicious or insulting comments in the past or something (for what reason I have no idea, but I also don't watch Mike so maybe his viewers have developed a toxic culture or some shit?) and Vinny deciding he didn't want it in his chat and to confront it,
and this chat member just happened to make a comment that fell into the category of "appearance + Mike".
Or am I the one that is actually overreacting?
Mainly curious if there's something I'm missing here.
Vinny probably just thinks Mike should be depicted by someone who's better at drawing I think.
It's not that deep you're definitely giving it more thought than Vinny did when he said it
its not deep
The responce didn't sound genuine. Just playful banter.
This game was neat, i wonder what the dev moved on to d-
😶
what did the dev move on to doing? i asked someone else but they refused to explain
What is it
@@hecticsconefurry dating sim
@@feIon lmao that's it? thanks for letting me know anyway
