TheCameraStoreTV this is the REALEST review of any camera I've ever seen. You weren't shy to say when something sucked or was annoying. You didn't sugar coat anything. I just got a refurb Coolpix A for 300 though... Hopefully I can find a lot of good uses for it or get good enough at handling with it to make it useful. Thanks for this video!
Interesting chat :) I'm looking forward to putting these guys up against each other myself. I've just been checking out the GR and its a damn fine bit of camera, crazy sharp detail.
Blunty, I've missed your lens reviews :) Please review the imminent Ricoh GR III - perhaps compared with the XF10 or GF10. You could collaborate with compatriate Matt Granger in NYC...!
Great reviews!!! I'm a pro photographer and love to collect all sorts of cameras.... And I really love your camera choices and how you do the reviews. Used to watch digitalrev, but he's more on fooling around than doing any real reviews. Keep up the good work.... Ricoh GR is next on my list too. Cheers. :)
Great comparison as usual guys. Thanks. Hey what about minimum shutter speed? The GR has a minimum of 300seconds VS Nikon 30seconds. Nice to have a longer exposure option for night shooting and for capturing movement. +++ Ricoh GR
I saw a really old NEX review by this channel and was turned off by it... but I caved in and watched this one since I'm a GR fanboy of sorts. This video was pretty well done, I really appreciated the honesty on both cameras.
Well, I bought the Coolpix A having put my name down for a GR (at the $837 list) and been told it would take a month)... 3 days later the store with the GR told me a waitlist customer had dropped out and I could have one today! ...So, in a fit of madness I bought it. So I now have both. Indulgent, yes. But after a few months I will know which suits me better and will sell the other. (I'm also a D800 user, but find I don't "lug" it around nearly enough. Great camera though).
@@Hermit9_3 Gosh, this was 11 years ago. Are people still looking at these two cameras? I guess they must be, as this was a real step forward for compacts, with the large sensor. The answer is that I kept the GR, for two reasons, neither of which was the files (I slightly preferred the A files). For a small camera the GR is better ergonomically, with its little handle and grippier surface, it feels more assured one-handed, which is what you want. Secondly, the snap-focus function is brilliant for street photography - you get used to judging distance, and then don't have to worry about locking on to a subject with autofocus. So, if you are into street, I'd suggest the GR. But if you're into slower paced stuff, I did prefer the A files.
I think micro mode is just for increase AF speed, because that means in normal use the camera doesn't have to search for whole range (only benefit for contrast AF), but still i would like they have an option can do the whole range AF even it will decrease the AF speed
Hi TheCameraStoreTV. I just saw a comparison video of Nikon D7100 and Pentax K-5 iis in DRTV and wasn't satisfied. I guess it missed the flare your videos have ;). Could you do a video comparing these two cameras? Thanks!
Nice video. At the moment I can't justify either camera, but they seem both very well suited for their purpose: street. I was a bit surprised when you mentioned Pentax/Ricoh JPEGs being inferior to Nikons. Maybe I am just not up-to-date, and it's different with the newer models, but didn't the K-5 have the best engine of its generation? That was my impression, at least.
LOL!! Funny to see a pic of my sister and I make it on to your video review.. hope the street recognition wasn't too "stalker-ish" haha! Keep up the great work. Love all your videos! You've actually helped me purchase 2 cameras from The Camera Store and I love both of them!
can you do a camera shootout on advance mirrorless cameras like x100s, ricoh gr, omd ep5, nikon coolpix a and rx 100 mark II? there are alot of advance mirrorless cameras spurting around and we dont know what to choose.
Hi and thanks for the comparison/review. One question though. How much better would you say the X100s auto focus in low light be compared to the GR? Is it $500's worth better? Thanks again.
JPEGs are fairly subjective, but I think Fuji has the best processing out there. Chris thinks Nikon has the best JPEGs right now, but his opinion is wrong. Jordan @ The Camera Store TV
I can't decide whether to get the RX100 or the Ricoh GR. On the one hand, I love the image quality and "look" of the APS-C sensor of the GR, but on the other, I find the 10fps speed and the expanded focal range of the RX100 to be useful at times (even though I shoot in 28mm half the time). What do you guys think is the ultimate pocket digital camera for every-day use?
Wow! You guys are really good. Just subscribed. Had done a search for EXACTLY this face off and you guys did it well. Ricoh edging it out in a number of reviews. Funny thing is, where I live, both cameras are the same price - about $900. So I have to pay $100 too much for the Ricoh GR, but get a $200 discount on the Coolpix A. Humph!
Actually nowadays the hype about the Ricoh GR raised its prices so much that it is actually smarter to grab the Nikon A. If you take it that way they are more or less the same camera.
the biggest thing i miss on coolpix (i still use it in 2019) - they don't recall manual focus setting. this is just sooo dumb ! i wouldn't care if it'd take extra 1-2secs to return af distance to that i've set, but this omission is pain in the ass for using cooplix in hyperfocal, after every restart you have to dial focus distance again from infinty (i usually preset to 2m)
Good point there, I feel like the whole Nikon Coolpix line is severely under-appreciated. It's an absolute bargain right now if you want a 28mm equivalent on an APS-C sensor in a compact body, image quality is plenty good enough for anything.
Please do a 3 way shootout between the FUJI X100s, Ricoh GR and Nikon Coolpix A!!! PLEASE!!! And perhaps a shootout between the xpro1 vs the x100s...Basically, I want to know "How fast is fast?" between the two or "How good is good?" between the two in terms of image quality. Especially now that the prices are relatively close (xpro1 body is at around the same price as the x100s). Thanks man!!! I hope you could do this soon...Im stuck because I want both but I can only afford one of them. :D
That is why I have Pentax cameras. The underdogs, better price for the functionality. I also have a Ricoh DIGITAL ii and ordered the GR ii. Thanks for the video!
TheCameraStoreTV could you do a video with all the camera brands and see who has the best JPEGS. I know RAW is the best, but sometimes people do not want to edit their photos and also good JPEG ENGINES are good when buying a camera as a gift for someone.
Unfortunately, neither Chris or I are big enough audiophiles to really judge those new Sennheiser headphones. I've been happy with my HD280s for years now. Jordan @ The Camera Store TV
+MrApplewine depends on what youre wanting to do. i have both and prefer the fuji when i know im wanting to take pictures and carry it around and prefer the ricoh if im not sure whats happening and may or may not be taking photos.
Have both, but the GR gets more love, I mean use. If it's bright out and I have more time (not needing snap) I take out the CoolpixA.. just wish I could use the GX100 evf (no matter how bad it is) with the GR. Don't regret owning both, I also got both second hand.
More videos please I love it the gr wins people cheaper smaller better made snap focus easier to use nd filter and the affects button on the side really nice easy to use
I chose the 250g Ricoh GR II over the 340g Fuji X70 on the basis of weight - despite my main kit being Fuji, and the X70 having the tilt-screen and simulations. For the purpose of having a camera readily at hand, the weight difference was very significant - it spells the difference between a discreet object and one which distorts your jacket or bounces around as you dash. The more recent, yet scaled-back 280g Fuji XF10 (24mp) is far closer to the weight of the Ricoh GR, though lacks X70's handy tilt and Fuji's high-end features (AF/X-Trans/ACROS). Eric Kim has several comparisons; here's one ua-cam.com/video/lW7tdUm5Q2E/v-deo.html Ricoh GR III is due any day now: 24mp + stabilisation - flash.
In my country, second hand Coolpix A is US$100 cheaper than GR. Should I get Coolpix A? I think if I use the YN622 on Coolpix A I will fix the low-light AF problem.
yeah get it. I bought one too yesterday for cheap and it's good and very fast write speeds using sd uhc card, blows my fuji away.. AF is improved in last firmware, but not really fast enough for fast moving situations, but if you look around forums, there are workarounds. yn622 is good, sb400 also is a good alternative to use.
Ricoh GR trouble with AF in low light! The whole point of APS is low light AF! I got the Nikon A for $899 at Best Buy ask for manager to match their Feb 19 sale.
Most Ricoh-users work with Snapfocus, much faster then any AF and with a 28mm lens no problem. Also the Ricoh keeps the focus-settings if you turn it off and on, the Nikon doesn't.
Fujifilm cameras, except for the new X100s and X20, have great looking JPEGs. X100, X-E1, and X-Pro1 all produces OOC JPEGs that in many cases look as good or better than Lightroom converted RAWs. The Coolpix A has fantastic all-around IQ, as does the GR, to a slightly lesser degree.
The movie mode is hidden because it is so crappy - you are not supposed to use video(or manual focus) on these cameras. Great photos from both cameras.
Re: Self vlogging. Most P&S cameras are so sharp at arms length that face comes out oversharpened and harsh (really bad). How do these do on your own face at arms length. Can you turn down sharpness in movie mode to smooth out?
The e-pl5 is absolutely fine (i do have olympus m43 cameras as well) but they are really not as sharp as these new generation compacts (not even with the 12/17mm). Moreover, m43 cameras aren't realy pocketable enough for some photograpghers.
Ricoh GR is better in just about every department compared to the Nikon Coolpix A. Plus with the Ricoh GR you can have a date/time stamp imprinted on your image. Not so with the Nikon unless you have a DPOF printer at home. Who wants to print all their photos on a home printer?
Hey Guys, can you help me out? :D I'm looking for a small & "flat" slave-flash for my Ricoh GR. Mostly using it off cam but of course also mounted on the hotshoe. TTL is not needed. Something like "Leica SF 24D". PM me if you know anything similar to this :)

I love it. They nailed it with this review.

If ricoh GR would include a build in view finder it would be great..
I think the Ricoh has zero shutter lag in the Snap setting. c:

1st day with the Ricoh GR and I am very impressed. The only downsides I found was focusing in macro mode and battery.
TheCameraStore reviews are the best! Funny but informative and helpful. Chris is a great presenter. More videos please, :)

Nice work boys,and nice moustache!!!!
I like the stuff these guys come up with. Great content plus not boring at all. Awesome work. :)

So you mean to tell me i should stick with the lx7?

Nice vid, can't wait for these two have a longer focal length. Similar to a Sigma DP2.
The Coolpix A now sells here for 499 euro and the Ricoh for 581 euro. Would the Ricoh be still the preferred camera?
I would say so because the ricoh comes with a free sd card and viewfinder on b&h.com and the price difference isn't that big

How are these cameras compared to the latest Samsung or iPhone cameras.
about 3 times better than the most advanced iphone now
I really like the functionality and overall performance in Ricoh GR, but I love Nikon's colour result.
how does the GR II do for indoor shooting with no flash and some normal movements
Very interesting , keep it up !
Ricoh GR, clearly. Alternatively: depends on what you need.
Also to add as usual it depends on how and what you shoot. Always the case in any review.
The real question is Ricoh GR II vs. Fuji X100t etc.
