A Psalm for the Wild-Built would be a great one for the great outdoors prompt! And for a poetry anthology, Life of the Party or another poetry collection by Olivia Gatwood could be really good, she's one of my favorite poets.
I finally put together my tbr: Graphic: The Magic Fish Anthology: The Queer Bible Black History: Real Life Creepy Queers: Bath Haus Rainy Day Read: Afterlove Immigrants: Greenland Non-European Mythology: Kogitsune Number in the Title: The 2000s Made Me Gay Night: Your Lonely nights are over Great Outdoors: all thats left in the world Continued: Icarus International: Bad Girls Mental Health: girl made of stars Magic: My name is magic
YESSS I was so waiting for this video, cannot wait!! 😍 I would LOVE to be maybe considered for a host for a future round of queerlitreadathon 🤗 So pumped for this 13th edition - I was born on the 13th as well, so it might be my favorite so far :P
@@frannook Noted! We usually announce about a month before, so if I don't remember to message you in October (even though I made a note) for planning, feel free to remind me you are interested 🙂
I LOVED The Skin and Its Girl!! I'm so glad you all are highlighting it. I have the other group read unread on my shelf so hopefully I will finally read it for this.
For non-European mythology, I can’t wait to read Mirrored Heavens by Rebecca Roanhorse, and it comes out June 4, yay! Black Sun is book one, for those who want to get into this series.
I'm participating in the Amazing Readathon but I'm sure I'll be able to double dip and check off some things from this one! June is going to be busy and filled with Queer books!
I have recs! You were asking about a Black History book - How We Get Free edited by Keeyanga-Yamahtta Taylor is a great pick. It is the manifesto of a Black feminist group in the 1980s and interviews to talk about the group’s legacy today. Other recs: Summer Sons by Lee Mandelo is great for creepy queers but so is his most recent (which is also shorter which could be conducive for a readathon), The Woods All Black (and if you wanted the choose your own prompt to be historical fiction, this is set in the 1920s). Dear Mothman by Robin Gow would be good for Night since a lot of significant things happen during the night in the book (could also work for Creepy Queers if you think cryptids are creepy).
I just made my tbr and it's a huge stack of big books that I'm never going to be able to read in just one month 😂. Especially since I'm going on holiday to Ireland at the start of the month. I may bring one book with me and go book shopping for the group read and a non-European mythology book there.
@@KathyTrithardt We just missed each other then, I lived on the corner of Parnell Street and Moore Street in 2009-2010 as an exchange student to UCD. I'm visiting Cork this year with my mom.
🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳 Can you believe it's round 13 already? I've been struggling with my chronic ilness, so making captions is something I rarely have spoons for these days. Seems like I can get Under the Udala Trees via the library system. I actually read outside my country/continent all the time, as I read a lot of American/US litterature. 😅 Maybe I should make some blog posts with recommendations?
Right?! How is it 13 already?! I would love it if you made blog posts - if you have the spoons for it! I know not everyone has spoons for captioning. I let my videos autocaption, and then I copy all of that into a google sheet doc and edit from there, then paste it back in. The timings adjust automatically and then I just need to adjust for my intro and outro music. At least autocaptions understand most of what I say these days, because this used to be a much longer process back when the autocaptions were worse. I'm really just correcting capitals, adding punctuation, and changing the words I didn't annunciate clearly.
I only really have recommendations for the Magic square because I've been reading a lot of historical fantasy. Dark Rise by C. S. Pacat is wonderful as is its sequel. The Magic in Manhattan series along with its spinoff series by Allie Therin are also wonderful. The series that starts with A Marvellous Light by Freya Marske is also great, especially the 3rd book, and I'll throw one more YA book in there which is The Wicked Bargain by Gabe Cole Novoa. I still haven't read The Sunbearer Trials which is lowkey a crime so I'll try to read that to cover the Rainy Day Read and Non European Mythology squares. Will I make a whole TBR and video? Only time will tell lol.
I utterly l o v e The Crows by C.M. Rosens and it would be a fantastic fit for creepy queers. It just got rereleased through Canelo Horror last week too. Unfortunately the sequel is rereleasing later this year but if you can get your hands on an old copy it's called Thirteenth.
@@KathyTrithardt after much consideration I’ve chosen four books to fit four of the prompts: 1. Graphic: Aquicorn Cove 2. Group read: Under the Udala Tree 3. For mystery/Trans Representation: Felix Ever After 4. Magic: The Magic Misfits
I'm only really participating on Storygraph as I'm just a lurker on most social media Would you rather people not add SMP titles to the Storygraph page?
That would be preferable. Ultimately we can't stop folks from reading what they want, but if you are just thinking about adding books to categories they fit but they are titles under boycott, best to leave them off. I have the same issue with out recommendations spreadsheet; it is a record of what has been recommended, so I don't want to alter it, but once I have the time I'm going to have to go through and denote which titles are under boycott. I was honestly hoping SMP would speak up sooner so we wouldn't have to go out of our way to avoid them.
Depending on where you live, International. You could also use it for the Choose Your Own Prompt square, depending on what you choose for that. It could also be used for Immigrants.
For the great outdoors prompt I just recently finished Something Wild and Wonderful by Anita Kelly which is a romance that takes place on the pacific crest trail 🥾 ⛰️

That is a great Outdoor rec!
I finally put together my tbr:
Graphic: The Magic Fish
Anthology: The Queer Bible
Black History: Real Life
Creepy Queers: Bath Haus
Rainy Day Read: Afterlove
Immigrants: Greenland
Non-European Mythology: Kogitsune
Number in the Title: The 2000s Made Me Gay
Night: Your Lonely nights are over
Great Outdoors: all thats left in the world
Continued: Icarus
International: Bad Girls
Mental Health: girl made of stars
Magic: My name is magic

I'm most excited for mythology. Don't have a book chosen yet, but I will see what the library has.
