I've been looking at various drum modules to add for my eurorack set up and hadn't considered the SY0.5 - thanks for the demo as it looks like it could be what I'm after.
I love my WMD perc modules! Still blown away by the organic vibes I get from Crucible. Also love BIA but for completely different reasons. Forgot about Lo-Five but, man, that thing sounds badass! May have to pick one up. Inclusion of burst was a such a smart idea.
hmmm ... after watching the demo, I like the sound of WMD ones way more than BIA. Plonk isn't bad either, but more on the realistic side. SY0.5 have some nice moments in some modes, but doesn't have a wide range of sweet spot. More percussion modules comparison please, e.g. Moffenzeef
On the bia if the attack knob is all the way to the left the noise is full on. At 12 o'clock and to the right it acts as normal attack without noise. Maybe that's why the sound doesn't appeal to you.
Over the top of a straight beat, as here, I think the higher pitched modules stand out better e.g. lo five and chimera. WMD kraken has just recently been released, looks very interesting too - another one to add to the comparison list! :)
BIA almost has too much range for me, seems like it would be hard to control. My favorites were the Chimera, SY0.5 and Lo-five. I have a Chimera and I like it a lot for interesting modulated hi-hat sounds, and I feel like I'm barely scratching the surface. I like the tonal sounds the SY0.5 can make -- it sounds perfect for techno and electro. The Lo-five seems like a better version of the Synthrotek Astronoise. This makes me want to make a rack of all of these things together and use a switch or something to move between them...
Those are Befaco Bananuts. I've been converting all my modules to use them, with black being input, colored (either red or gold) being output, and silver/white being cv.
@@JohnSchussler thanks! definitely helps to have a system, and good for modules that don't have the inverted text for the outputs. love your comparison videos!
Why didn’t you consider Akemie’s Taiko? I own it and it is a wild one, I think FM gets you the best results for drum synthesis.Your videos are helpful as usual, thanks!
Sy05 bar non. And i use the vpme qd those 2 modules= world Power for any system!
Just bought a Plonk. If I don't like it I'm definitely going to consider the BIA

ALM's Akemie's Taiko is another good one.

BIA sounds amazing too though..
Synthpunk gets a sore head but really its just more of the the unseen internals

Thanks for this video.
Them end times!
I notice you have red rings around some of your outputs, where do you get those? What are those called?

Don't have one. I hear it come up a lot, though....
Why the black gloves?
Makes my hands less distracting to both humans and camera auto-focus systems.
The real question is… Why not?
This is really useful, thank you….
