    To land 1/2 way around the world you would need a landing pad at the destination, including fuel and ground support. Makes more sense to launch into LEO, airdrop cargo then have the rocket return to the original launch pad.
    I could see this making sense for mission-critical things like emergency supplies or a drone swarm. Imagine 500 drones dropped within 30 minutes anywhere in the world.

    The shortage of astronauts is a result of trying to have an equal number of male and female astronauts. As a result of this policy decision, the total number of male recruits was capped at six which was the number of qualified female applicants who applied for astronaut training. There were many more qualified male applicants who were not considered. I happen to agree that we should have more female astronauts, but wouldn’t sacrifice mission readiness to force gender parity if not enough females are currently interested in the astronaut profession. We just need to put a bit more effort in promoting space careers to women.

    • @rkusina
      @rkusina 2 роки тому +1

      They are still around and growing. I get your point but this contract is more about logistics then space operations. Air Force is the main logistics move for the US Military. Additionally I'm not sure if Space Force has a full research and development section yet, so it is still possible for Space Force to take over when it goes into operation. Either way I'm interested to see what comes out of this!

    Why not a proper rotating station [similar to Gatewayfoundation Voyager] to have 1/3 -1/2 centrifugal gravitational pressure?
    As for the Astronaut shortage - they usually only take Ex-Military but regular people should be allowed to] Train more Train more and the sooner the better Don't kick people out cause their fail a test getting uccustomed to / learning on the ground is what training is all about! Then they don't freakout when actually in space!

    • @sebsunda
      @sebsunda 2 роки тому

      Easy answer for the first question:
      Certification, Safety & Reliability.
      You put something in a new very challenging environment with thin supply line with a best response time if something goes wrong which is calculated in days instead of hours.
      In order to reduce risks, you are forced to be as conservative as possible.
      Hence why they use true and tested designs.
      This is why Starship is sooo important for the future in space.
      By reducing the price of access to LEO, we will start seeing a LOT of testing of new space station designs.
      This will help the new design for the upgrade of the Gateway station.
      But that will be at least 10 years after Starship Certification.

  • @sebsunda

    The problem with the astronauts is one in which you need the Elites of the Elites in the roaster...
    The reason for that is because space is f*ing expensive.
    Hence the solution is to make space less expensive so you can afford to only have Elites in the roaster.
    i.e: We need SpaceX to succeed with Starship...
    Also, everyone is too busy becoming an "influencer"...
    So yeah... (-_-')
