Novak is just incredible! He's so relentless. Alcaraz didn't play a bad match. In fact Carlos played some exquisite points and winners. Problem is, he's playing a guy that doesn't drop his level and just applies constant pressure point after point. Nothing seems to faze Novak. He recovers after every lost point and just keeps his focus. It's simply legendary.

Just because Alcaraz played a few great points doesn't mean that he didn't play a bad match. Do you really not get what an Alcaraz who is playing at or near his best is supposed to look like? Have you not seen enough of that already? Do I need to remind you of Wimbledon? I don't care that Djokovic applies a lot of pressure and tends to force or provoke errors. Other than the serve, Alcaraz played a poor match for his standards. This doesn't need to take away credit from Novak's performance, but please just don't be delusional.
Djokovic is like a tennis AI. The more he plays against a certain player the better he gets against him. He studies, absorbes and adjudts. Many of these young players went 2:0 or 2:1 against Djokovic in their first couple of matches but later Djokovic completely turned that H2H around.
Djokovic outwitted Alcaraz quite frankly. Not in the match but in the practice sessions. He has now figured Alcaraz out and adjusted his game to neutralise and destroy him. Hence this scoreline. One thing about the GOAT he always learns from his encounters with each opponent. He has now studied the book of Alcaraz and aced the test.

Novak is like ultron, every single fight will make him better, he will learn from his mistakes, he will learn what the opponents weak spots are. Once he learns, he doesnt unlearn. Great analysis. Novak and Carlitos may have played the point of the year with Novak leading 4-2 in the 2nd set with Alcaraz serving at break point. Utterly breathtaking rally with shotmaking, ridiculous defense and impossible angles that Carlitos just couldn’t handle 36 year old should not be able do what Novak Djokovic does. 26 year olds don’t even do this! Simply a stunning performance from the greatest player to ever lift a tennis racket 1 more win gets him his 98th career title and 71st hardcourt title to tie Federer for most all time and most importantly his 7th Nitto year end title breaking the tie with Fed for most all time!
Despite Sinner's win against Djokovic a few days ago, you gotta feel that Djokovic will make the necessary tweaks and adjustments to produce a different outcome. But if fitness doesn't become an issue tomorrow, Sinner with his new found confidence and shot arsenal, could win it again. I'll keep my money on Novak though. Hoping for another thriller!
Listened to sinner’s press conference- journalist asked a hypothetical question if Carlos wins today vs Djokovic, sinner’s plan… when Sinner answers… he also added if Djokovic wins, and he may make some adjustments he needs to watch out. My impression is that Sinner feels a more challenging match vs Djokovic even though journalist only asked of Carlos
One things for sure it's damn hard to beat Medvedev is straight sets, because he is going to make everyone rally, probably 16 shots + to win the point. So already Novak has the advantage about the fuel he's got in the tank. Sinners been impressive but has spent more time on court. No doubt it's going to be a long one.
Just got back from Pala Alpitour here in Turin...Nole again amazing vs Carlitos...I wasn't expecting a straight set win but definitely well deserved...I guess if Carlitos would've broken early in the 1st set or get the break back in the 2nd, things could've been a bit different for him but what a rock-solid baseline game today from Novak...deep strikes into the baseline avoiding much of a counter attack from Carlos...Novak played amazing and more than that, perfectly performed his tactic-game plan tonight

You realize Djokovic didn't even win his first GS yet at Alcaraz current age in 2007? Nole lost all of his RR matches in his first ATP finals in 2 straight sets to David Ferrer 6-4 6-4, Richard Gasquet (lol) 6-4 6-2, and Nadal 6-4 6-4. Carlitos did great making it to the semis, he will come back strong next year after the off-season as he did last year.

Moreover, I think Carlos is mentally jaded after a long season. This is a good lesson for Carlos and something to work on in pre-season. Less errors, better second serve and better volleying.
Correction. A fast indoor hard court. Court was playing faster yesterday than the beginning of the week. Probably the grit they add had become soft and does not offer as much friction after prolonged use.

This is indoors and a fast court. Rafa did not win indoors at all and yet he has beaten Novak on hard courts at US open 2010/13 and Roger at AO 2009. When you watch Carlos play, you see him hitting forehands from the backhand side a lot by running around. That shot is not on here in these conditions. So these conditions change the way he has to play. I think a lot of fans don't realize it's Carlos' first time in Turin.

You are good commentator, but sadly biased like any other westerner. And here is why. You comment the match from perspective of Alcaraz, all the time. You are searching for reasons why Alcaraz lost, not why Djokovic won. And you do it often in the three tennis channel. You are searching for reasons why some other players are not goat, and you don't ask yourself why Novak is goat. It's like Novak is something "bad", and you are doing analitics and strategies on how to defeat him. Djokovic is just "sidenote" in your analize, like "job" or hard "homework that needs to be done. People tend to forget that Alcaraz played one good match against Rublev, but Rublev was not in a happy place lets put it that way.. and won against Medvedev, but Medvedev didn't have to win.. not saying that Alcaraz didn't play good! My point is just he's coming off a terrible stretch by his lofty standards, while in contrast Djokovic won this event 6 times, won Paris and the Us Open, and lost 1 match, that was really close to Sinner! Carlos played well and raised his level. Novak was just insane, simple as that. I feel like Carlos is similar to Rafa and hard courts will be his least fav. However when Nivak is gone he'll be winning on hard courts.

Alcaraz came forward to the wrong shot at that 30-40 point. He should have came forward to the previous shot from Novak, if he did that it would have been an easy volley. I have seen he is doing it so often. And the shot he came forward was the wrong one, Novak is brilliant playing that passing shot. It is the same passing shot he executed in the 2019 wimbledon final against Federer to save Federer's second match point.

It seems that at this speedy court Carlos was rushed constantly which probably contributed to his increased errors. What Kyrgios commented couple days earlier at Tennis channel from his experience in the last year Wimbledon final was that he felt Novak just squeezed the court and rushed him.

Well what's left to say. Once again in SF & F after 3-4 matches under his belt in a tourney, he brings his best and plays his best in key pivotal moments. The serving accuracy and consistency and clutch play. Nole played so much more aggresively against Carlos and Yannick to rush them - playing the ball back deep. The pressure points...the serving % on 1st & 2nd. Taking time away from his opponents motions in his returns. Epic returning. Phenominal pace and placement on his tactics and strategy. Just cluthc raising his game on his serve, forehand & backhand returns with deep placement. Just frickin' AWESOME! Dominates the SF's & F's in Bercy & Torino! Wow! Beyond sublime! Another couple of records and I bet Nole's performances in '22 & '23 will make Rafa hungry and motivated in '24 to come back and compete cuz Rafa is the only one that has a chance to approach any of the records Nole has. Just amazing stuff. Best Milan! WHOA! What an incredible year and glad your back in the saddle! Peace-out!
Novak's performance reminded me of the way Lendl used to take care of business in the mid 80s. A really professional, "percentage" display, doing exactly what he had to. I don't think Alcaraz really showed up except in fits and starts. As Jimmy Connors said of him recently, he does go "walkabout" a bit too often.
As good as Alcaraz is, he doesn't seem to be a thinking player like Djokovic. I don't see any strategy or game-to-game adaptation, but merely in the moment reactivnes.
I think that comes with time though and Carlos definitely crafts exquisite points and has a huge asset - instinct. I think once he hones which shot to play when (like Rune), he will be unbeatable

Shot control, decision making, second serve, learning when to be aggressive and when to bide your time in order to hit the killer blow. Also I think he needs to seriously change how his diet and recovery plan as this is the second season where he’s run out of steam and petered out towards the end of the season. As he himself admits he isn’t particularly conscious about his food and diet choices.

This match reminds me of the comments earlier this year when commentary were saying how Carlos made Stefanos look quite ordinary - the world no 5 and a top clay court player. It did feel bit like that tonight. That said I am sure there will be more epics in store. Plenty of time in the off season to work on AO strategy and Carlos continues to be the brightest star in the men's game with his exciting play.
Ok, Novak endured those few difficult moments he had and got a straight set win but... almost 300 comments now and... where's SJ The Philosopher and his Essay? I guess too busy in the weekend to even watch the match? Or simple hangover and recovery now? C'mon, it's only the semi-final of the meaningless tournament (in the meaningless fall) even The Great Rafa never cared to win. Nothing painful, really. The only little pain I'm still feeling is that I missed a good concert in my city on that Saturday evening - decided to watch the match during that time.
Novak simply becomes a wall, and will play high percentage game, defend ava defend till the other guy misses, and it's usually the attacking player. Alcaraz ain't gonna change, he's gonna attack no matter what... Exact same thing he does against Wawrinka, who's blasting balls against a goal keeper... Sorry, can't stand Novaks game, yeah, he's found the formula, but it's one hell of a boring game.
One of Alcaraz's worse performances of the year, if not THE worse. Was that down to confidence? The surface? Or some injury? He has played Novak on bigger stages so it was not Novak. I would say maybe top 5 'spot server' but he'll never compete in overall serve metrics with speed, aces, unreturned serve stats. But Novak doesn't need top 5 serve status, just be a really good consistent server. He does everything else so well.

He has improved his serve under Goran and with Becker before that. It’s very reliable and rarely lets him down. Sometimes it can be a difference maker, and he likely has a a top 5 second serve which is generally less attackable than other top players as Gill says.
If you look at their racquets that each use ... you will see the obvious, 18x19 95 inch2 vs 16x20 98 inch2...how Djoko strikes are more precise, stronger, more speedy, and more versatil in any case...regardles of the surface.. in order to pull off this amazing game of his with such a control old school heavy racquet

When you go for outrageous winners, you will definitely commit lot of unforced errors. It is natural. Alcaraz was so lucky to win the 2nd set tie break of Wimbledon with Novak hitting a succession of regulation backhands to the net. In comparison, Novak is not a flashy player like Alcaraz and his winners column will be modest. Yet the clutch player makes those blunders to hand over the second set to the kid, a match he should have won in straight sets. You cannot always be lucky. Law of averages will catch up with you. Alcaraz should be very grateful that Novak had always been way below his level whenever he met the kid.

In the third set Novak leads 5-3 and has break points on the kid's serve. Again he makes a couple of unforced errors and the kid hits some winners to avert the break. Then on his own serve, Novak has Championship point and serves a double fault. He then squanders his own serve with unforced errors leading to a tie break which Novak wins after hitting an exceptional forehand cross court winner on the kid's serve taking it to 5-4 and then he wins the tie break 7-4. Novak is just incredible! He's so relentless. Alcaraz didn't play a bad match. In fact Carlos played some exquisite points and winners. Problem is, he's playing a guy that doesn't drop his level and just applies constant pressure point after point. Nothing seems to faze Novak. He recovers after every lost point and just keeps his focus. It's simply legendary.

Just because Alcaraz played a few great points doesn't mean that he didn't play a bad match. Do you really not get what an Alcaraz who is playing at or near his best is supposed to look like? My impression is that Sinner feels a more challenging match vs Djokovic even though journalist only asked of Carlos
There weren't really many adjustments Novak can make as Sinner beat him because of better execution and not because of better tactics.

Just got back from Pala Alpitour here in Turin...Nole again amazing vs Carlitos...I wasn't expecting a straight set win but definitely well deserved...I guess if Carlitos would've broken early in the 1st set or get the break back in the 2nd, things could've been a bit different for him but what a rock-solid baseline game today from Novak...deep strikes into the baseline avoiding much of a counter attack from Carlos...Novak played amazing and more than that, perfectly performed his tactic-game plan tonight

This is indoors and a fast court. Rafa did not win indoors at all and yet he has beaten Novak on hard courts at US open 2010/13 and Roger at AO 2009. When you watch Carlos play, you see him hitting forehands from the backhand side a lot by running around. That shot is not on here in these conditions. So these conditions change the way he has to play. I think a lot of fans don't realize it's Carlos' first time in Turin.

You are good commentator, but sadly biased like any other westerner. And here is why. You comment the match from perspective of Alcaraz, all the time. You are searching for reasons why Alcaraz lost, not why Djokovic won. And you do it often in the three tennis channel. You are searching for reasons why some other players are not goat, and you don't ask yourself why Novak is goat. It's like Novak is something "bad", and you are doing analitics and strategies on how to defeat him. Djokovic is just "sidenote" in your analize, like "job" or hard "homework that needs to be done. You are doing it like you are teaching/explaning people how to hunt lion. You should focus more on Novak and his game. For example, try to do one episode from Novak perspective. People tend to forget that Alcaraz played one good match against Rublev, but Rublev was not in a happy place lets put it that way.. and won against Medvedev, but Medvedev didn't have to win.. not saying that Alcaraz didn't play good! My point is just he's coming off a terrible stretch by his lofty standards, while in contrast Djokovic won this event 6 times, won Paris and the Us Open, and lost 1 match, that was really close to Sinner! Alcaraz came forward to the wrong shot at that 30-40 point. He should have came forward to the previous shot from Novak, if he did that it would have been an easy volley. I have seen he is doing it so often. And the shot he came forward was the wrong one, Novak is brilliant playing that passing shot. It is the same passing shot he executed in the 2019 wimbledon final against Federer to save Federer's second match point.

All correct except for one tiny correction to be made. In 2006 Rafa won 9 games, not 5. He lost 6-4 7-5 to Fed. It was 2007 where he only won 5 games vs Fed, losing 6-4 6-1.
It seems that at this speedy court Carlos was rushed constantly which probably contributed to his increased errors. What Kyrgios commented couple days earlier at Tennis channel from his experience in the last year Wimbledon final was that he felt Novak just squeezed the court and rushed him.

Well what's left to say. Once again in SF & F after 3-4 matches under his belt in a tourney, he brings his best and plays his best in key pivotal moments. The serving accuracy and consistency and clutch play. Nole played so much more aggresively against Carlos and Yannick to rush them - playing the ball back deep. The pressure points...the serving % on 1st & 2nd. Taking time away from his opponents motions in his returns. Epic returning. Phenominal pace and placement on his tactics and strategy. Just cluthc raising his game on his serve, forehand & backhand returns with deep placement. Just frickin' AWESOME! Dominates the SF's & F's in Bercy & Torino! Wow! Beyond sublime! Another couple of records and I bet Nole's performances in '22 & '23 will make Rafa hungry and motivated in '24 to come back and compete cuz Rafa is the only one that has a chance to approach any of the records Nole has. Novak's performance reminded me of the way Lendl used to take care of business in the mid 80s. A really professional, "percentage" display, doing exactly what he had to. I don't think Alcaraz really showed up except in fits and starts. As Jimmy Connors said of him recently, he does go "walkabout" a bit too often.

As good as Alcaraz is, he doesn't seem to be a thinking player like Djokovic. I don't see any strategy or game-to-game adaptation, but merely in the moment reactivnes.
I think that comes with time though and Carlos definitely crafts exquisite points and has a huge asset - instinct. I think once he hones which shot to play when (like Rune), he will be unbeatable
@@Jalleur14325Nah, his game isn't big enough to be hugely dominant like the big three. Also, his modest height will increasingly catch up to him, as it forces him to work hard for every point.
@@k.k8291I don’t think that his game isn’t big enough. I think he still has a lot to learn about the nuances and finer details of the game. Shot control, decision making, second serve, learning when to be aggressive and when to bide your time in order to hit the killer blow. Also I think he needs to seriously change how his diet and recovery plan as this is the second season where he’s run out of steam and petered out towards the end of the season. As he himself admits he isn’t particularly conscious about his food and diet choices.
The irony is that Alcaraz played lights out tennis in a set he lost 6:2

This match reminds me of the comments earlier this year when commentary were saying how Carlos made Stefanos look quite ordinary - the world no 5 and a top clay court player. It did feel bit like that tonight. That said I am sure there will be more epics in store. Plenty of time in the off season to work on AO strategy and Carlos continues to be the brightest star in the men's game with his exciting play.
Ok, Novak endured those few difficult moments he had and got a straight set win but... almost 300 comments now and... where's SJ The Philosopher and his Essay? I guess too busy in the weekend to even watch the match? Or simple hangover and recovery now? C'mon, it's only the semi-final of the meaningless tournament (in the meaningless fall) even The Great Rafa never cared to win. Nothing painful, really. The only little pain I'm still feeling is that I missed a good concert in my city on that Saturday evening - decided to watch the match during that time.
Novak simply becomes a wall, and will play high percentage game, defend ava defend till the other guy misses, and it's usually the attacking player. Alcaraz ain't gonna change, he's gonna attack no matter what... Exact same thing he does against Wawrinka, who's blasting balls against a goal keeper... Sorry, can't stand Novaks game, yeah, he's found the formula, but it's one hell of a boring game.
One of Alcaraz's worse performances of the year, if not THE worse. Was that down to confidence? The surface? Or some injury? He has played Novak on bigger stages so it was not Novak. I would have liked to hear some comment on that, stats are good to know, but those details are things amateurs like me cant see through

I would say maybe top 5 'spot server' but he'll never compete in overall serve metrics with speed, aces, unreturned serve stats. But Novak doesn't need top 5 serve status, just be a really good consistent server. He does everything else so well.

He has improved his serve under Goran and with Becker before that. It’s very reliable and rarely lets him down. Sometimes it can be a difference maker, and he likely has a a top 5 second serve which is generally less attackable than other top players as Gill says.

When you go for outrageous winners, you will definitely commit lot of unforced errors. It is natural.
Alcaraz was so lucky to win the 2nd set tie break of Wimbledon with Novak hitting a succession of regulation backhands to the net. In comparison, Novak is not a flashy player like Alcaraz and his winners column will be modest. Yet the clutch player makes those blunders to hand over the second set to the kid, a match he should have won in straight sets.
You cannot always be lucky. Law of averages will catch up with you. Alcaraz should be very grateful that Novak had always been way below his level whenever he met the kid.

Novak broke the kid early and was leading 4-2 in the first set. He commits a lot of UEs to squander the break and hand over the advantage to the kid. The intensity of heat clearly got to him and he just goes through the motions in the first set during which he even doesn't attempt retrieving balls which is very unlike Novak.
Then at 1-1 in the second set, he gets medical treatment on court. The set goes to a tie break and it is 5-all. Novak commits a forehand unforced error to make it 5-6 and it is Championship point on Novak's serve for the kid. He serves and after few exchanges hits a forehand down the line which the kid is caught off-guard. Where is the fluke here man ??
In the third set Novak leads 5-3 and has break points on the kid's serve. Again he makes a couple of unforced errors and the kid hits some winners to avert the break. Then on his own serve, Novak has Championship point and serves a double fault. He then squanders his own serve with unforced errors leading to a tie break which Novak wins after hitting an exceptional forehand cross court winner on the kid's serve taking it to 5-4 and then he wins the tie break 7-4.

Another 1 and 2 in semifinals was Nadal and Federer in 2006...20 year old Spaniard making his debut at the ATP Finals (after injury derailed his debut the year before), makes SF after losing his first round robin match.
That was a master tennis class. Nole in totally control from start to the end of the match. Carlos did all that he can't but it was to much today for him. I would say thet today was about 80/90% in his game, contrary to days before.
