Thank you so much for all this information. I am about to start the application process and very excited as I've been to Korea before, only for a few weeks, and am excited to go back for an extended stay!
That's awesome. My little brother stills lives there, so I go down there to visit from time to time. I'm up in Jacksonville now. You know since the Publix got messed up on University and Sample they are thinking about turning that into a bus hub. --- I have to say I am truly glad I found your channel. A friend of mine proposed the idea of teaching overseas many moons ago but I really had no info/idea on how to go about it, but with your information and advice I think it's going to be a breeze.
Thanks for the advice! I have my interview in 2 days, so I'm gearing up for the home stretch. I applied for Busan, so I wanted to get some feedback from someone there. Hopefully I get it. Thanks again!
I find all your posts to be so informative and interesting, so I watched everyone of them so far !! Thank you very much for all your efforts and insights about working in Korea..Looking for more posts.... Take care...
You can do either, like you mentioned. I didn't have the option at the time I applied, but looking back I don't think I would've wanted to do it alone - without a recruiter. If you make mistakes, you may get pushed back and considering the slim # of jobs you can't afford to be put on hold. Just my take on it.
Nice man, I know exactly where that is. I lived a few blocks from the Coral Square mall. Went to Ramblewood Middle and JP Taravella High before I took off to California for a while. I actually worked at the Sears at the mall as a mechanic for a long time before I went to Calif.
That's so cool. That Publix has been gone a while and I'm not sure what it is now. They made a new one right at Sample and 441 which is right near where I live. Turtle Run area. Woot woot!
ITTT TESOL online. Keep in mind though that public school doesn't acknowledge online certifications now. Other countries no longer accept them too, though many still do. Just something to keep in mind.
If you are with EPIK, they will pay for your flight upon arrival in Korea. When you leave upon completion of your contract they will pay you then. In both cases you need to pay first.
idk if you are interested in the EPIK program but its a way to get you acclimated to the new location, culture and aspects of the job itself. I believe its unpaid with free meals but is mandatory. They explain it in more detail on the site just Google it.
Great vid man! When u talked about apostilles, you said both would be sent to the state dept. I thought the FBI check could only be apostilled by the U.S. State Dept. because the state can't apostille federal documents. Did you send both your FBI check and diplomas to the FL state dept?
Wow! This is probably like a Bible for any prospective teacher considering to teach English in S.Korea...now i wanna hear you create a video on how to teach English in N.Korea...:-)
Your vids are very helpful! It helped me understand the process with EPIK much better. How long is the orientation process? How soon do you begin teaching after your arrival?
Far outweighed, but it is different for everyone. You'll be surprised at what you can save because you'll have no bills other than food. I'm not counting out the notion of going back to work in my past career someday, but I don't see it as an option in the forseeable future. Teaching English abroad is growing by leaps and bounds in many countries around the world. Personally, I love this lifestyle...and so do tons of others.
Hi I recently watched your video it laid out a lot of very valued information, i was wondering if you were TESL certified or were you a teacher? Do you need the certification to teach?
It's not really a bad idea, but I think many people will make mistakes on the application and supplemental docs unknowingly which will slow their process down and likely their chances of getting in. A recruiter is more likely to catch those mistakes before submitting.
Hello, I'm having trouble finding the correct form to be tax exempt for the first tow years. is it Form 8802, Application for United States Residency Certification - Additional Certification Requests. Or Form 6166 - Certification of U.S. Tax Residency. Very confused. :(
Would you recommend getting a criminal record check through the local police or through the FBI or does it not matter either way? Thank you by the way, you are extremely helpful!
Hello, thanks for the video. It is very informative. Would you be able to tell what the residency verification form on the IRS website called? Is there any form number. Do you want to share a link to that form or page where I can get all the information for tax exempt? Thank you
How many months did this entire process take? I want to apply for the Feb/Mar 2014 start and sent off for my FBI CRC on August 9. Is there any hope I'll have all this ready to apply in time?
Really helpful. I got almost all my questions answered! Thank you. Just 2 things. After Epik send the letter of intent and contract, do you choose location at some point or is it randomly assigned? If I wanted to choose a school or area within Seoul, do I do this through the recruiter I assume right? Also once you arrive to Korea, is anyone waiting for you at the airport to help you reach your apartment studio or you are on your own? I will browse your other videos maybe the answers are there~
Since I will not be graduating with a degree in Education, I will need to earn a TEFL certificate. Do I get this before reaching out to a recruiter / applying to EPIK?
Hello!!! I've been watching your videos and reading some posts in your blog and I am so excited about the possibility of teaching english in Korea! But... I have a question for you. I am not a native speaker (born in Brazil) but been living in the US for the past 3 years and a half, learned the language and now I am planning on taking the TEFL course in NYC to get started on this new project in my life. Do I have any chances to get a good teaching job in Korea? If not in korea, where would you say I would have more chances? Thank you so much for your videos and all the info shared! Camila
Youre videos are great ,the information that you include is really specific thanks for that. i need a couple of classes to graduate from college ,but i would love to go to korea as soon as possible . Since i havent finished school you think i have a good chance on being considered for the position or having a degree a huge acceptance factor?? oh and is english the only language that people are able to teach, i also speak spanish. How long did they take for them to respond to your application? Thanks.
You do need a bachelor's but if you'll be graduating at the time the contract starts, you can go that route too. I don't know of too many spanish teaching positions. You'd have to look carefully for those. It doesn't take long if your application package is complete and accurate.
oh ok i think i can just wait a bit to be done with the classes thanks! and from tour exprience would you say its something you would like to do for the rest of your life or is it just an d adventure that you decided to take??
Hey SeoulTee. I am 24, graduated in 2011. I have a good paying job now, but I am not enjoying it. I applied to EPIK for the chance of a different opportunity. Has the happiness/pleasure you gained from becoming a teacher in Korea outweighed the bigger paycheck of a business career? I want to travel and immerse myself abroad while I still can. I luckily have no debt or obligations that would prevent me, but I would be making far less. How has your transition been financially and emotionally? Thks
I am a junior in college currently do you think it would be wise to start getting things ready now so after I graduate I can start sending in my information to epik?
I tried using an EPIK approved recruiter but it didn't work out. I am not sure but I think there may be some age discrimination at play here. I'm over 40 and people don't respond to begin with. Don't know if all this is worth it when they won't hire you because you are older.
It may or may not be an issue. It wasn't when I applied. But things have gotten much more competitive now that there are no longer middle school or high school positions available. Try another recruiter. Maybe Footprints Recruiting will give you feedback. They usually do for me.
I can only tell you my opinion and I'm not an expert or a recruiter. Women are more reliable and mentally/emotionally stable than their male counterparts in general when it comes to teaching in a foreign country. They tend to trash-talk less blatantly and are more sensitive to cultural differences and boundaries. Also, pedophiles are not typically women. That said, a qualified applicant is qualified regardless of gender. It's just in general, women are a safer gamble overall.
Are you an ROK citizen? I know that people born to South Koreans in the US are considered by the ROK as an ROK citizen. If so, how did you deal with the risk of compulsory military service issue?
That's really great to hear. My instructor is an incredible example of dedication.
Stay with it - be awesome!
Thank you so much for all this information. I am about to start the application process and very excited as I've been to Korea before, only for a few weeks, and am excited to go back for an extended stay!

you ought to be paid extra for making these videos for prospective teachers like me. I really appreciate your videos.
Thanks. I wish they would pay me!
Thanks for the advice! I have my interview in 2 days, so I'm gearing up for the home stretch. I applied for Busan, so I wanted to get some feedback from someone there. Hopefully I get it. Thanks again!

3 transcripts from your college and 2-3 recommendations.
Wow. That's so cool. What a small world. I got my passport and all at the city hall at the mall there.
Nice man, I know exactly where that is. I lived a few blocks from the Coral Square mall. Went to Ramblewood Middle and JP Taravella High before I took off to California for a while. I actually worked at the Sears at the mall as a mechanic for a long time before I went to Calif.
thanks a lot for breaking it down, very well done sir
That's so cool. That Publix has been gone a while and I'm not sure what it is now. They made a new one right at Sample and 441 which is right near where I live. Turtle Run area. Woot woot!
Yes, from one of the English speaking nations.
That's awesome that you lived in Ft. Lauderdale. I grew up in Coral Springs. Oddly enough, I'm going to be doing the same thing with my life...
Yes. It's not super difficult, just detailed.
Thank you for all of this information.
ITTT TESOL online. Keep in mind though that public school doesn't acknowledge online certifications now. Other countries no longer accept them too, though many still do. Just something to keep in mind.
Good luck!

At least a few months. Things like the CRC and apostilling docs can take some time.
I'm TESOL and Biusiness English certified and half way through teaching credential. You don't need these for EPIK though. Usually not hagwons either
Yes, the state will apostille both. Unless things have changed the past couple years.
idk if you are interested in the EPIK program but its a way to get you acclimated to the new location, culture and aspects of the job itself. I believe its unpaid with free meals but is mandatory. They explain it in more detail on the site just Google it.
What a racket...great detailed video.
Great vid man! When u talked about apostilles, you said both would be sent to the state dept. I thought the FBI check could only be apostilled by the U.S. State Dept. because the state can't apostille federal documents. Did you send both your FBI check and diplomas to the FL state dept?

Your vids are very helpful! It helped me understand the process with EPIK much better. How long is the orientation process? How soon do you begin teaching after your arrival?
What is done during the orientation you talked about at the end of the video? Maybe you can make a video on that or just explain it here
Also, do the sealed college transcripts need to be notarized? This is an additional option when ordering them.
Far outweighed, but it is different for everyone. You'll be surprised at what you can save because you'll have no bills other than food. Thanks for the informative video. Would you know how long the application process is for non-Americans?
They give a set amt of 1.3 million won (unless it's changed). How much you spend on the ticket doesn't matter

It's form 8802 and you should be able to download from the IRS site
thanks so much! :)
Do you need a recruiter if you are trying to get into the EPIK program? Cant you go directly to them?
Hi, I wonder if these requirements and paperwork still applies to the TALK program? It's like a paid internship not really a job...
You should make copies of the original apostille
Would you recommend getting a criminal record check through the local police or through the FBI or does it not matter either way? Thank you by the way, you are extremely helpful!
Hi! thanks for the info! but i wanted to know about the requirements, do i have to be a native speaker or with proficiency is enough?
Hello, thanks for the video. It is very informative. Would you be able to tell what the residency verification form on the IRS website called? Is there any form number. Do you want to share a link to that form or page where I can get all the information for tax exempt? Thank you

Hmm. I literally just enrolled through OnlineTEFL last night.
Is this going to be a huge issue when it comes to getting a job?
don't most schools pay for your flight after completion of contract?
lol - my condo is in Coral Springs ironically. Small world!
Really helpful. I got almost all my questions answered! Thank you. Just 2 things. After Epik send the letter of intent and contract, do you choose location at some point or is it randomly assigned? I think now you can make 1 choice. If you want Seoul, you have to apply separately through GEPIK. Yes, they pick you up at the airport
SeoulTee Thank you. Your videos are really helpful!
Where did you get your TEFL certification?
You've got a ways to go
How early on should you start organising things?
If you will be finished by the time your contract starts, that will be fine. You just need to provide proof of intent to graduate.
do you need to know how to teach or just a college diploma?
Since I will not be graduating with a degree in Education, I will need to earn a TEFL certificate. Do I get this before reaching out to a recruiter / applying to EPIK?
is there a max amount they will pay you for the flight?
so when should you fill out the IRS residency verification? after you get an offer?
Most likely, but things have changed a lot. It wouldn't hurt to have it earlier than later.
after they scam you in kreao and not pay you jack nipples shit fuck bot goof
For most programs and schools in Korea, they only request that you have a 4 year degree.

Anything is possible. You may want to contact a recruiter to see if they have any opportunities for you.
SeoulTee My grades for my bachelor's aren't really that great. Will this matter or does it just matter if you have the diploma?
Oh gosh, I think orientation was 2 weeks? I forget now. I think 2 weeks. You start teaching the following week.
Youre videos are great ,the information that you include is really specific thanks for that. i need a couple of classes to graduate from college ,but i would love to go to korea as soon as possible . initially it was just an adventure getaway, but now I believe I'll be doing this for quite a while. not necessarily Korea, but abroad
What is the form number for the IRS residency verification?
if u are us naturalized citizen, does that mean its less chance to get the job?
do you have to have completed your bachelors?
Why is it not a good idea to go directly through E.P.I.K. and skip the recruiter all together?
which IRS form do I look for for the tax exemption?
what is your email? can you provide a link to the Epic (?) program?
do you have to be a native english speaker to teach english in korea?
is it okay to teach if I'm not in the 7 English speaking country
but I'm from Philippines we speak English too it our second language
Visa not required according to UDHR Article 13.2

I am a junior in college currently do you think it would be wise to start getting things ready now so after I graduate I can start sending in my information to epik?
I think it may too soon. Usually about 6 months before the time you want to go is about right. Your CRC is only valid for 6 months.
Yikes! I may forego that pleasure!
Who did you get your recommendations from?
I had 2 former employers and 1 volunteer organization for my references
Can you teach in Korea without a degree?
i'm just curious. do you have to be a b.a. in english or major in educ. grad to get job as an english teacher in korea?
No. Just a BA in anything though it would help if it was in English considering how competitive it is becoming.
There are some schools now that will only accept Education Majors. The schools or companies will make it clear though in the application process.
Sounds like it's slowly getting tougher to get teaching jobs all around.
I think you should have enough time for sure
Do they teach French in Korea ? And Arabic ?
Yes for French, not sure on Arabic. I'm sure somewhere you can find a class.
Thank you for answering :) So maybe I'll aplly for teaching French !
How much does a recruiter cost?
+SmoothCriminalAaron it shouldn't cost you anything unless you're using a very specialized service like Search Associates

The UDHR is supposed to be taught in all schools in the world but nobody teaches it.
IRS form 8802
Is there any reason in particular why most jobs only want females? I've been trying to make sense of this for a while now and I just dont get it.
