which is a better thermal insulation choice? cavity wall (air gap) or solid wall? i am building a new home, shud i slab 2 bricks together for a solid wall or leave a gap
I live in a relatively 'new build' property on an estate and have been offered CWI under the ECO sceme. I'm pretty sure the construction was brick and block with Cavity which has Kingspan Insulation board in the cavity. Is it correct to do a property of this type as there must only be a small gap in the cavity to fill. Should these companies be doing work on property of this type?
'm a retired bricklayer. Knowing what I know now, if I were building a house for myself again, I'd build a block core filled home any day over any other type of construction. Builders can tell me all the BS they like about lightweight panels, timber frame etc etc, but you can not beat good old reinforced core filled block as long as the outer skin is correctly waterproofed. As far as I am concerned, a lot of this R value stuff is BS too, designed to sell a LOT of product.
To add, I am not saying that insulation doesn't work. I am saying that a solid block wall that is correctly built and insulated, beats a cavity wall any day.
Hello, we would like to understand construction concept between rat trap wall and solid wall. Rat trap wall also similar like cavity wall but in this construction bricks to be keep horizontal between walls.. I would like to know that whichone is best for construction either rat trap and solid wall.

Use clay bricks , cavity better for waterproofing. Cavity is better not much difference in insulation between the two

What are risks of external wall insulation on a cavity wall?
should I have cavity wall insulation put in .? I have seen aloty of videos saying to avoid it and the gap is " there for a reason"
