    When I came home after living in Italy for a year, I could not get over how big and spread out everything was. I really missed being able to walk everywhere. American mass transit sucks. It is so slow and expensive. It doesn’t go where you need to go most of the time. I missed being able to walk to any street corner and see 10 busses come by in an hour. Here, you are lucky to get one bus an hour. I never drove once the whole time I lived in Italy. The trains and busses went almost everywhere. Oh, I really missed Italian food. I started gaining weight as soon as I got home.

    In Italy the law prohibits to place billboards near the highways because they can distract drivers, if you see one it's illegal, and the fines are high.

    Being italian, it's very interesting for me to watch these kind of videos because it makes me realize how special our culture is! To me, spending hours at a restaurant or finding fresh products at the supermarket is just normal, it's what I'm used to, but I realize how lucky I am when I hear foreign people talking about it! Of course not everything is perfect here, but I still think Italy is a wonderful country 🌸 (and European culture in general 😊)

    Awesome energy between the two of you! I definitely see a future Zoey and Sofie talk show! As an American who just returned to the US from a short visit in Rome... I find myself dreaming of the outdoor cafes- cobblestone streets- fashionable people etc.... Americans have little appreciation for the old... we tear down to build new and better things..... Good job Ladies!

    In Italy law prohibites billboards over the freeway. You can have it on highways but it should stay parallel to the direction of vehicles, and mainly law prohibits moving advertising (like moving colored lights, animations, or TV Panels) in order not distracting drivers.
    But law does not prohibits signboards or banners so if a big store or a supermarket insist with a facade on the freeway, they are allowed to put big signs on its walls but strictly not animated ones.
    From times to times advertising companies use flaws in the law to mount animated panels on the roads telling these are information panels but they were periodically removed by authorities.

    Ahh, the Spanish call it the sobremesa - when you stay more in a restaurant, and you chat, you take your time before leaving. One of the things I miss the most as an Italian living in the UK.

      I was stationed in Germany during the Cold War. The service was slow but people did not care if you brought a book and read while you waited. In the States they are insulted . . . but they don't serve slowly, either.

    I'm british and when it comes to tipping we don't really work put a percentage to tip. Say if the bill came to £27 I would just give them £30 and let them keep the change as the tip. Most people I know just round it up to the nearest figure.

    One of the biggest things I've witnessed is that when you're in Italy there is no peace of mind. Every time you walk out of the door someone is bothering you trying to sell you something or annoying you. The second it starts raining, someone is trying to shove an umbrella in your face. Eating dinner outside? Someone comes by reaching his hand over the railing to sell you a rose. Also, which is absurd to me, but someone is always outside a restaurant begging you to eat at the restaurant "come eat here. you want a table for 4? come in"

      Brasil is the same...…Sitting in a sidewalk café in Copacabana there is an endless stream ofvendors.....peanuts, inflatable toys, maps, pencils, even socks!You'll have shirts and perfumes and dolls placed on your table.You'll say, nao, nao, nao, every ten seconds....If you're a single male (foreigner) sometimes one or two garotaswill seat themselves at your table. They'll ask you to buy them a wineor beer. If you're in shorts one of the garotas wll rub her foot up anddown your bare leg....even higher.....

  • @larrydirtybird
    @larrydirtybird 6 років тому +4

    I've lived in Italy and in China, and each time, when I moved back to the USA, I was struck by how in public Americans hold the door for the person walking behind them. I mean, if the person is just a foot or so behind you, then in Italy and China they will hold the door for you, too. But in the USA, the person could be 20 feet behind them, and they hold the door. It's annoying because many times I've felt like I had to rush to door because there is a total stranger up ahead, just standing there, holding it for me. Then I feel I have to hold the door for others, even though it feels unnatural to hold it for someone who is not right up behind me. It's weird, because before I lived abroad this was not even on my radar screen so it must have felt natural, but now it feels so forced and unnecessary.

      The perfect description of EUR was made by Federico Fellini in an interview in 1973. You can find the most of it also here on UA-cam if you type "Fellini EUR".
      Fellini must have been an extremely funny and interesting person.

    In America going out to eat is a mission rather than a family outing..for example in Europe friends or family go out to eat to socialize on the table, discuss their daily events, while ordering and eating..in America it’s critical for the family to go out and eat first then possibly socialize...Americans must eat big, must get their ice tea re filled at least five times and take rest of food home, including getting extra bread..

      And the reason milk goes bad so quickly in Italy isn’t because its more “natural” or “organic”, nut because it hasn’t been pasteurized. A process of mildly heating foods to kill pathogens. H9nestly, take some basic science classes.
