Hi Zuzana, these days it has become common for Westerners to visit India as a medical tourist for getting a plethora of treatment and surgeries done. The entire cost of medical visa, travel tickets, accommodation, food, private hospital bills, medicine bills will be approximately somewhere between one-fifth and one-third the cost you will incur in a private hospital in Europe or US. Private hospitals here are pretty high quality and you also get to enjoy the special Indian hospital hospitality.

Complete blood and urine test in India cost at max 1000rs and in US it costs 250000rs thats 250 times expensive and less quality with high waiting time. Here it's almost instantaneous and sample collected at home at our convenience.

basically medical field in US is just a business because you people can pay that price to save your lives but in India it is about saving people that's why every health care industry keeps the cost as affordable as they can considering the equipment, that's why most of the doctors consultation fee is from 100rs - max 500rs if it is a super speciality hospital some govt hospitals don't even take consultation fee because govt covers the cost

There is no waiting for surgeries. Private hospitals are good in India. The price is affordable for most middle class people especially taking into account the insurance system prevalent in India. However, public hospitals are pathetic.

    Hi Zuzana,
Basic healthcare here in India is pretty efficient. I live in a smaller city. Here if I contact the Path Lab this evening, tomorrow morning they will send a person to collect the sample from home by 8 or 9am. It costs me Rs 800-1200 (USD 9-15). Results will be available by 3pm the same day. Regarding Government hospitals, anyone can go early in the morning, register their name, and stand in the queue for consulting a doctor. Government hospital charges you almost nothing. Medicines in general is very cheap in India. Compared to the record population this country has, the healthcare is pretty good. There are plenty of walk-in private doctor's clinics who will charge you Rs 300-500 (USD 4-6).

Look Health facilities are of High Class but It becomes unaffordable for Indian Middle Class.
Like Few Years Back, My Uncle ( Father's Brother ) went for Heart Bypass.
Many times they put him on Ventilators & Life Saving Drugs etc.
Surgery was Successful : but They didn't had money to Pay to Hospitals.
Hospital refused to gv any discount & refused to discharge without full payment.
Cost was more than 8-10 Lakhs.
So, We gave money, & they had to Sale Village Property.
    ( After 10-20 Days He Died** )
High Cost for Indians is Main Concern.
It is Affordable for Foreigners bcoz they earn in Pounds & Dollars.
But Unaffordable for Middle Class Indians.

Indian Government has a rule that the doctors have to ask patients if they want generic Medicines or branded ones... They do the same work but are less costly because of No Brand name associated with them... in Government Hospitals they mostly Prescribe Generic Drugs unless there is absolute need of branded ones so Yes the Medicine are cheaper... With increase of technology lab people come to home for sample collection it became more common during Covid and with Medicine delivery it's through Online Apps you need to upload prescription And the prescribed medication is in your Doorstep.... Also No of doctors is low and Infrastructure is bad in deep villages So you are ok in big cities and some Teir two cities but it becomes problem if you live in deep village the Primary Health Care is Ok but needs refferal for problematic disease like Pneumonia, Complicated pregnancy or any grievous injury.... One big problem we have is Many Good doctors leave India because pay is lesser compared to hardwork they need to do... So Availablity of Doctors is less in India...

Yes, it is true that private labs can offer free blood sample collection from home. In my city, Surat, Gujarat, my father is suffering from heart failure, so he needs some tests every three months. I call the lab to collect the blood sample, and they arrive within an hour. I also receive the report on WhatsApp quickly. The doctor prescribed tests for my father, including CBC, electrolytes, and creatinine. This whole report costs around 700 INR (approximately £7). However, heart failure medicines are costly.

Yes, blood / urine samples & even x-ray(through portable X-RAY) can be collected at one's desired location most preferred personal residential address. Tests results delivered through PDF on his/her mobile within eight to nine hours (in case of emergency much more faster)& even payments can be made online . Even medicine too can be delivered at one's residential address provided current prescription is furnished at a much higher discount. @Zuzana ...in the comment box, so many Indians are feeling proud about the Indian medical system. But being an engineer,i oppose the Indian hospitals OPD section. It's not advisable and good to visit doctors very frequently. Nowadays, Indians are losing their body's immune system, due to excessive use of genetic medicines.
Instead of eating healthy Indian food, people are changing their diet to processed and frozen foods.
Here i also blame food related Western MNC companies. One example.. till 1990, every Indian household was having pure milk of non-hybrid cows. Nestle advertised bournvita and com-plan are far better than original milk. They crushed Indian millions of small milk businesses. They lobbied in govt to decrease subsidising of milk production. They illegally penetrated govt vet hospitals and supplied drugs that make cows infertile and milk less.. And squeezed and consumed the majority of milk to produce unhealthy chocolate and cakes and biscuits. In recent times, India is buying milk from Australia...
This is one example of how careless and senseless Liberalisation, globalization privatization is killing the health of Indians. 😢😢😢😢
