I have no idea who he is but since I saw the video for the first time, I always thought it was a hispanic guy, so reading comments to have people calling him "the whitest guy ever" made me pretty confused, lol.
@VelkanAngels that's funny. He's a singer. He used to be sing with his sister, Donny & Marie. I had heard of him but I fell in love after seeing him on The Masked Singer. He's such a natural performer. He still plays in Vegas. You should check him out 😉
My youngest son's favorite. He's 27 now, but I made them fans as young kids. Saw him twice with them, 2nd time I also took my dad for his birthday present. Our local performing arts theater is relatively small and there is no bad seat in the house. Even if you had to get the last row, it would still be pretty close. He puts on a great show as well. Very personable and at his parody concerts, he is very funny. I have been a fan since I was a little kid in the 80's.
I laughed at the part where he buys the VHS tape like he was buying drugs because the video "Star Wars Holiday Special" was so terrible that it was taken out of circulation and the only way you could get it was on the grey/black market.
Weird Al is a legend.🤩 Just watch: - Fat (Bad - Michael Jackson - Eat it (Beat it - Michael Jackson) - Tacky (Happy - Pharrell Williams) - Amish Paradise (Gangsters Paradise - Coolio)
in the "industry" it was called a "Weird Al bump" - when he did a parody of a famous song it then in-turn made that artist other stuff sell better too...
One thing to keep in mind with Weird Al, he always asks the original artist for permission to parody their hit. Amish Paradise does slap but initially Coolio was not happy about the song. He later changed his mind. Also please do The Saga Begins (of American Pie) and Yoda (og Lola).
Yeah the Coolio thing was kind of effed up because Coolio's management group said yes before they even consulted Coolio about it so Al thought they had talked to him and got his blessing.
There's also the inverse story where James Blunt agreed to a "You're Beautiful" parody, but the record label shut it down in fear that it would "make James look like a 1-hit wonder". Overall though, stories like these are the exceptions, not the rule. And most artists are more than happy to be parodied by WAY.
@@dragonbretheren agreed. Kurt Cobain said when Al parodied Smells Like Teen Spirit with Smells Like Nirvana to him it was a sign they had "made it." The Coolio thing is the only time I remember anything negative once a song was released. Yeah, there were several times Al got turned down before even recording a track but this was the only time in my memory of backlash post-production.
@@jaceywarren1528 Yeah, as I said - the Coolio and James Blunt cases were the only 2 times (AFAIK) in Weird Al's nearly 5 decade long career where someone involved accepted the parody initially and someone else involved later rescinded the approval after Al had already finished the song. Al politely removed "You're Pitiful" from his Straight Outta Lynwood album, but proceeded to: 1. Include free download links to the .mp3 file on his website. This was _technically_ abiding by Atlantic's request to not include it on the album and not distribute for profit. 2. Including the reference in the White & Nerdy music video, wherein he edits the Wikipedia page for Atlantic Records (who were the ones who denied the James Blunt parody after Al had already gotten James' permission and finished the recording) to read "YOU SUCK" 3. He performed it in most of his following concerts as a "bonus song" (that was _technically_ not on the setlist *wink wink nudge nudge*). In the performance (at least for the first couple of years), he removes stacked layers of clothing. At one point, he has a t-shirt that reads "ATLANTIC RECORDS SUCKS!" All things considered, I think Al handled Atlantic Records denying his parody perfectly rationally like any sane person would. 🤣
Weird Al is a genius. His parodies are so good that when I hear the song he parodies I catch myself singing the parody instead of the song. Amish Paradise, The Saga Begins, Smells Like Nirvana, Tacky, Word Crimes, and Foil are some of my favorites. And you need to check out Fat (Parody of Bad) and Eat It (Parody of Beat It).
