I’m on my third home due to job transfers etc. Going to sell in about three to four years to finally retire and take the opportunity for downsizing. I’m living in Virginia and considering moving closer to families; 3 acres, 2700 square feet home is nice but... The three things I consider are, 1. needs versus want , what’s important to me (yes comfort and garage/ storage if kids yes school standards) 2. Location issues (availability of needs, crime, how far your funds will go, and locality property taxes) 3. Do I see myself in this house years from now (as life goes on we change, our abilities to function in that home changes ( health, maintenance or finances)). Best wishes on your decision.
@@Woodyinnewjersey thanks for listening Mr.Woodman. I just try to share information from what I have experienced. I searched on line for property taxes in Virginia ( in your case New Jersey/ New York) and the state government sites need to be transparent about the cost of living. In my case Gloucester County, Virginia per $100 of property value I’m taxed 0.695 for real estate and $2.95 for personal property ( car, motorcycle or trailer) In my immediate area other county rates are higher or lower, depending on on county/ city government. Here’s a sampling by order. York county 0.795 real estate/$4.00 personal property. James City 0.845/$4.00. Fairfax County ( Washington D.C.) $1.150/$4.570. City of Hampton $1.24/0.045. So you can see it varies greatly within a 50 mile radius. I wish I knew this when I purchased my first home.

As a 21 year old, I would love to see you guys being in the Manhattan Hustle culture, but since you guys are already established with a family a sub-urban home with a huge garage space will also be great!!
I think, that was best idea Ryan. What u said buying home in New Jersey with all facilities and having 1 or 2 BHK apartment in New York also. As you told your son will join college next year, that also depends which college he wanna take admission. But the final call will be, what 2021 will be up for everyone.
I'll suggest you to buy House in some small town near NEW YORK , Because in upcoming years around after 15-25 years most of the the cities will be so much Polluted that noone will want to live their, and if you'll buy House in Some Small town you'll also get some more Greenery near your house. As i have seen in many vlogs that you and your Wife and daughter loves to Go on walk and cycling. Just a Suggestion 😊
Hey Ryan & Karishma, first of all very glad to learn that you guys are planning to buy your own property. Very wise decision I’d say. If your current financial situation permits you to buy your own house then go for it. Now the points I would consider for a property to live in would be: 1. Current and future needs. While your son might go off to college in any of the states but your daughter has a few years before she graduates from high school. Hence you should be looking at a county/ town that has the best rating for schools. I suppose the rating for schools in the US is given in terms of ribbons right? 2. While Karishma is working from home right now, but you may never know when the situation might get normal and people would be expected to attend office like before. That might take maybe 6 months/ 1 year, but definitely the old normal is bound to return. And assuming she won’t be changing her job or get transferred to another state then the most important point to consider would be her ease of commute. As for you, I guess you are self- employed or have your consultancy kind of business hence commuting to and fro for work shouldn’t be an issue for you. Correct me if I am wrong yon this count. 3. You also ought to consider the taxes and property rates of the area you wish to live in and equally important is the safety, kind of neighbourhood, type of people living there, etc. 4. I feel a bungalow with 3-4 bedrooms with a basement and adequate parking and storage is what you guys should go for. A nice bungalow with lots of greenery in a gated community. 5. I would also recommend that you guys should not put in too much of your own funds when interest rates on loans in the US are nothing compared to India. Instead park your funds in high yield off shore funds and go in for maximum loans. This way you earn more and pay less interest and your capital is intact rather it is making money for you and paying for your interest on loan. This is exactly what an Indian friend of mine has done 😊 So, all the best guys and happy hunting for your new abode 👍👍
My advice is to buy a house keeping in mind maintenance cost.....the bigger the house the more the maintenance cost. As you grow older it becomes difficult to maintain your house...in U.S.esp. during winter a lot of shove lling needs to be done by our own self..... regds Ramasubramanian
Hey, Ryan can you please tell how you purchased your first home in Bombay within three years of starting your professional career. Can you guide us and share your planning and strategy that you made while buying it. It's huge achievement buying house in Bombay in your early 20's
You should go for only one house having required amminties in NJ or Suburbs NY as children will move out after few yrs and managing two properties becomes difficult as you age. You both can persue your hobbies and peace of mind .
Sir, you should think of buying a small apartment in nyc..as an investment property like ma'am said and then maybe a bungalow of 3 4 bedroom having a garage if your budget allows... ofcourse now I don't stay in nyc or us for that matter but this is what i would have thought!
Ryan sir i would like to know the house details which you have in pune because I am moving to pune as a student in next few months so can you please share details with me Please

New York vs New Jersey
My preference would be NJ instead of NY. Since it's quite family friendly you get bang for a buck comparatively.
