Thank you for this compassionate message. I have suffered with depression for many years. I have been told by some Christians that I should not be taking meds. But my husband simply put it like this, "if you were cut and bleeding you wouldn't say no to a bandaid!" Be free to take meds, do not let others condemn you. Be grateful to the Lord for all help and healing. He is Lord of all. ❤
When someone uses religion to stop you or get you need.... walk away. This is NOT the God we serve. This is a sinful world and we must do what we can 💊to get through it always holding Jesus hand for comfort.
The Lord Jesus showed the love and glory of God to us through his suffering on the cross we may be comforted in our own suffering. Davids prayer in Psalm 6 was answered in Jesus.
My name is Luckwell Ng'ambi, I live on Plot number Area 49/2/252 in Lilongwe, Malawi. I am bedridden. I have a damaged spine and the disks and nerves are pinched and give weaknesses and pains to my right arm, legs and my entire body. I pray that you join me in prayers for my deliverance and healing, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.
I'm bipolar and it really never goes away. The pain never really subsides, the blown up manic episodes are controlled with lithium but everything else you have to learn to cope with. I'm 46 and I got diagnosed at 19. It does amount to perhaps greater amounts of grace than the regular guy bc you constantly have to seek the Lord.
When we face depression of any kind, we should share our deep feelings with God and ask for healing. When we are seriously depressed for any reason, it is important to ask for prayer from our family, friends, or believers because there is power in agreement. We don’t have to face this alone nor do we have to see it as a personal failing. The Bible addresses depression, giving us examples of those that faced depression, David, Job, and Elijah. It also reminds us the cause could be the result of being physically, psychologically, or spiritually exhausted. When necessary, we may need to consult a qualified medical doctor who understands the various reasons for depression. Before doing this however, we should look to see if we’re truly taking care of ourselves. Are we getting enough sleep? Are we eating nutritionally? Are we spending quality time in God’s Presence and in His word? We must also look at the possibility of unconfessed sin and unforgiveness in our lives. It’s important to locate the reason for your depression. We can do this with the help of the Holy Spirit and another qualified believer who can help you explore the possibilities of what’s at the root of the depression. Sometimes this is all we need. Other times we may need professional help, via Christian counseling, and possibly medication. While medication may be necessary as some depression is caused by chemical imbalances, we should make sure we’ve done whatever we can to make sure this is the solution. Time with God and listening to the Holy Spirit will help us determine if medication is the next step. What’s critical here is that we do all we can to be healed and not ignore the symptoms we’re feeling. Be Encouraged!
When we face depression of any kind, we should share our deep feelings with God and ask for healing. We should request prayer from godly friends and church family. We should ask for God’s guidance, because He knows us better than we know ourselves. We are spirit, soul (mind, will, & emotions) and body, so we need to take care of all 3 parts, especially when feeling blue or even depressed. When feeling depressed, we should make a concerted effort to take good care of our body. We should try to get the proper rest at night, and even take time during the day to be still. We should try to get the proper nourishment, water, and make sure we take in the proper vitamins and minerals since experiencing low levels of certain vitamins and minerals can cause depression. When feeling depressed, we should make a concerted effort to take good care of our soul (mind, will, and emotions). Along with prayer and bringing our hurts and questions to the Father, we should consider seeking out a godly counselor or therapist. We should spend even more time in the Word, because it is so helpful in renewing one’s mind, to encourage us to trust the truth that’s in it rather than the lies that the enemy may have whispered to us or the circumstances in which we find ourselves. When feeling depressed, we should consider meeting with a person educated in the area of spiritual deliverance. It is a ministry that can get to the root of trauma and other circumstances that have attached to us. It’s not an easy process, but it’s not really a scary process either. It is my opinion that every person would benefit from spiritual deliverance and cleansing. If none of those things seem to be taking care of one’s depression, then one may certainly need to get on medication. Too often medication is the first thing prescribed, though, and while it may ‘medicate’ the emotions, if there’s a root cause for the depression, other than a physical low level of serotonin (for example), medication will not cause the depression to be cured. I can testify that being on multiple medications for depression, when no longer needed, sets one up for horrible long lasting (but not eternal, thankfully) titration (weaning down) symptoms. I’m not against medication; I would just counsel that it not be the first line of defense. May the Lord give each person wisdom and direction, and may He rise over the depressed person and shine His glory on him/her (Isaiah 60:2). Thanks for the teaching, Dr. G.
Many *shoulds* have been listed here. If they work for you great! Just remember everyone is on their OWN journey & we mustn't interfere by telling others what to do... it could hurt them in ways we will never know. God has it covered through the Holy Spirit. We must not step on Gods toes telling others what they *should* do. Deep subject. Firstly, for myself personally I just always saw myself as sad. I got over it quickly like normal sadness. When I first heard of depression I immediately thought I was sick but at the time didn't really have it. Much later in life I was diagnosed with severe depression. I was in and out of clinics because I constantly tried to commit suicide. It was purely because of love. I felt unwanted. It was when I had no one who would listen. I do think there is a place psychiatry but they must have a passion for it from God. Some of them are bullies and don't care about the patients requests. I had one that insisted that I be on a tablet,I forget the name. It made me double my weight if not more and that made me even more depressed. I found a very nice Doctor and he put me onto other meds but so much. I decided to wean myself off most of it. I brought myself to the bare minimum. 2014 I ran out of one specific tablet called Resperidone, which made me huge. I couldn't buy anything because there weren't't funds. Two weeks later I felt like I was dying. My son rushed me to casualty and then I was transferred to a clinic. The pharmacy that was contracted to the medical aid ran out of the meds. I got better but it put my body in shock until this day. I think a lot of the sickness I have today is due to phychiatric meds. It is what caused by high blood pressure in me. Most of my sicknesses are not genetic at all. I think that if we teach our children properly this will not happen. Sadly, my daughter thinks she is bipolar. I think it's life that hurt her. There is no test to prove that bipolar really exists. Your grandfather was hurt by things that happened in life. Which do bring tormenting demons with it. I think it is the world's ways that hurt others. It is a good thing that he was not put into an institution because they were awful back then. They kept the patients like they were in prison back then. They loved giving shock therapy without anaesthetic. They really tortured people back then. I am not so sure if clinics are any better these days because you see a dr for 10 minutes of the day you are in. The staff don't really understand. Sometimes I think I went in just to encourage others. Problem with psychiatric meds is that they only work for a period of time and then they have to get changed. I met a lady that could not sleep. She was in and out every few weeks. She had built an endurance to all kinds of sleeping medication. I eventually just gave my everything to God because he is and was my only hope. I always ministered to these people and they loved it. I had a listening ear. Medication like that is so bad for you over a long period of time. I am on it and I am not even depressed. I am on it to keep my body going. I did a lot of research on the subject and got really angry. It made me so angry.
