The 'Calamity Cal' story is one of my favourite early aviation stories. It's absolutely crazy and rather hilarious how many times he crashed... 19 times by the end of his trip! Not only that, but it was repaired so much that only the two wingstruts and a rudder remained from the original aircraft. After all that, Cal died a year later when a seagull became jammed in his rudder in April 1912. Early aviation was so adventurous and dangerous.
