You really feel bad for him here. Just when he feels like he was in control of his life he’s brought back to his weak self.
I guess this is when Arnie officially “lost it. I would have too. I would have ended up in jail probably if I was him.
Christine could have repaired herself immediately after the vandalism but she wanted Arnie to see her like that so she could have full possession over him. In many ways Buddy helped Christine in achieving her goals to drive Arnie further away from his friends and family.
She tried to warn them. Radio blasting away was their warning.
All I could think about in this scene is that Leigh was WAY too good for Arnie. And then when she tried to console him, he furiously lashes out at her? She could have done way better.

buddy and his friends deserved what they got messing with a supernatural car that a nerdy teen busted his ass to restore. theres a rule people need to follow, thats: "dont mess with another man's car"
I was TDY at Adana Turkey when I read this book. I read it in about 3 days while doing 12 hour shifts.
This is my absolute favorite car of all-time! If I could drive a 58 Plymouth Fury, I'd be smiling the entire time! To be able to own a car like this would be a dream.

Poor arnie all the hard work he put into fixing Christine to get her working again is all gone and it broke something inside him
I would've lost my shit too. After all the blood, sweat and tears Arnie put into restoring Christine, seeing her this way is heartbreaking.
