- IN THIS LESSON WE WILL LOOK AT HOW A HAVERSACK KIT CAN PROVIDE FOR YOUR NEED WHEN YOU OUT IN THE WOODS. it IS THE BETTER PART OF WISDOM TO CARRY KIT TO PROVIED FOR FIRE BUILDING /CORDAGE FOR MAKING THINGS / AND A COMPASS TO HELP GUIDE YOU. SOME FORM OF SHELTER (OFTEN THESE ARE CALLED SURVIVAL SHELTERS) SHOULD BE CARRIED TO ALLOW FOR THOSE TIMES YOUR FACED WITH EXTREME WEATHER EVENTS OR CAR BREAKDOWNS THAT LEAVE YOU IN A OVER NIGHT SITUATION..
I WILL GO OVER THE CONTENSE OF MY HAVERSACK AND FOCUS ON WHY I FEEL YOU SHOULD CREAT YOUR OWN BASED UPON THE ENVIROMENT YOU LIVE IN AS WELL AS THE WEATHER CONDITIONS YOU WILL FACE.

I use my haversack for duel purpose. It holds the minimum tools and necessities for an all night outcome but I use it more for foraging natures bounty to make my base camp more supplied. Tinder , cordage or wild edibles on a short exploration . No pack just a haversack or possibles pouch. Good video my friend

I've got a big nylon haversack and you can definitely over pack and it's like carrying a block on your side
There is so much I could say about this video in particular, I can't say it all... #1 If anyone understands haversacks, there is no other I know of. #2 Seeing you demonstrate these skills in such a proficient way (looks too easy...) is definitely helping me visualize myself doing it, and that definitely makes me more confident in my ability to do it myself.

Your Haversack is great. Made my first one in 1972 out of burlap, it didn't last long. I got a cheap musket bag that I used for a few years and quickly had to make a strap using folded canvas. Great tips Blackie

Ever found having a bag with a one shoulder strap can cause heart troubles and body heat problems esp when it's heavily packed, also not to good upon all those tendons in the neck.

It's one of the reasons I don't like them. I'd rather hang it down over my bum on a belt. Like a back to front moon bag.
The contents of my haversack are very similar. I include a pair of lightweight gloves, some handwarmers, a couple empty quart size bags and water purification. Looking to add a whistle eventually....

I'm not really sure where you heard "have your sack" but here is some info for you...
The word haversack is an adaptation of the German Hafersack and also the Dutch haverzak meaning "oat sack", which more properly describes a small cloth bag on a strap worn over one shoulder and originally referred to the bag of oats carried as horse fodder. The term was adopted by both the English and French cavalry as haversac in the 17th century. The word haver likewise means "oats" in Northern English and Scottish dialects.
Most breads of the day were Oat based and the various militaries began adding other foods to the bag for personal rations.
Possibles bag... Correct, you put what personal items you can in a possibles bag separate from a haversack.
A shooting bag should be separate and Small and only carry tools and such to fix, clean, or feed your firearm.
Today a Haversack carries whatever we choose to put in it apart from a pack.

I would love to get hold of some of those oat bread recipes! My body does not like wheat, and I actually much prefer the taste of oats anyway. I have made oat cakes (Scottish style) and have been experimenting with fried flatbreads, trying to make tortillas (I have bought them, but my own experiments have not been flexible enough, although they were tasty and worked more as a flatbread).

Nice load out. I tried carrying a haversack many times and constantly gave up on it, then I read Mark Baker's book and his placement of it when carrying one. Night and day difference. None of that Jack Bauer carrying 3000 rounds of 9 mm or even Indiana Jones, what he carries I don't know.

I keep my haversack in my vehicle as a get home bag, it weights 4 pounds not to spend the night, but the the things I might need to get home. Great video..

Thank you Blackie for another plane understandable video. I enjoy your videos. Down here in Florida. I would have to add a mosquito net, some gloves to keep the mosquitoes off and maybe some repellent and a water straw to filter water.
Thanks for video i can confirm wha you said abaut windproof matches lighter can't replace them i also had a method of dipping very small pieces of wood in zippo ligther fluid works wery well if stored properly so that gassoline won't evaporate little hazardus tho :)

Oh i was just reacently listening audiobook by american author set in wild west era, and there was line "get your possibles" or something like that as the main character was invited to sleep. I sort of understood from context what it meant, but i guess he just basicly said get all your personal items inside. Im not native english speaker so some especially these kinda terms might fly over my head. The book is called Blood Meridian

Hello Blackie- Great video and I really like this Advanced Woodscraft series. The design of your haversack is nice with the flap pocket and the wide strap does help in my opinion. Haversack comes from the Dutch "haverzak". A kind of bag you hang around a horse's head that it eats out of.

Great video as always! It seems the buttpack on an lc2 pistol belt fills the same role as a possibles bag/haversack. Just recently got an M1956 pack for back packing and was wondering what goes in it. This video helped answer this question. Thanks!

With the tarp if you do an offset diamond won’t it cover your hammock better .?
Do you not pull your trousers in the socks? Against ticks and so? I do so for many many years but maybe you do not have thouse insect problems.

We got chiggers ( red bugs) in my area, i have tucked into socks but now i wear thigh high socks in woods and keep spray on socks at ankles , boots treated then spray pants , no chiggers , ticks that way, and i wear wide brim hat like Blackie
Blackie, don't know if it the signal I'm getting or if it's on your end but, about half of this video is just quick jerky movements. The sound is fine but the video itself put me in mind of listening to a CD with fine scratches that causes only bits of the song to be heard.
There seems to be a certain amount of background fuzz... The motion seems OK.

Hell no, Blackie! Try to carry 8lb (that's 4kg!)! You're asking to terminally screw your spine and neck up!
You should be ashamed of that first aid kit, if all you need is a band aid then pine sap is better and it has antiseptic properties, if you have a major bleed a band aid isn't going to cut it, carry a large bandage or military first field dressing on your person at all times preferably in your chest pockets as it can be reached by either hand, also double the size of that signal square and you can dual use it as a triangular bandage for broken arms and dislocated shoulders etc.
