Paris-based writer Andrew Hussey travels through the glorious art and surprising history of an extraordinary French institution to show that the story of the Louvre is the story of France. As well as exploring the masterpieces of painters such as Veronese, Rubens, David, Chardin, Gericault and Delacroix, he examines the changing face of the Louvre itself through its architecture and design. Medieval fortress, Renaissance palace, luxurious home to kings, emperors and more recently civil servants, today it attracts eight million visitors a year. The documentary also reflects the very latest transformation of the Louvre - the museum's recently-opened Islamic Gallery.

Excellent documentary ! This informative walk through these marvelous treasures of art is really impressive. As most of the people will not be able to visit the museum often, this is a splendid opportunity, to stay a while, whenever one wants to feast on each of the 6 parts of the documentary. Its gonna sound kinda sad, but I'm using this as inspiration for my groups next DND campaign and I'm modeling a dungeon off of The Louvre but filling it with custom legendary items and testing their willingness to follow the rules of The Curator. This place is vast and beautiful so I'm going to have to watch this a few times after taking notes to get half of everything.

When I first saw her in person I was shocked at how small the Mona Lisa really was.

Reminds me of my Catholic school days. In the church, our Lady of perpetual guilt...lol, where I went to Mass every day for years and years... A life size statue of Christ on the cross complete with nails, blood, the whole 9. Seems creepy now. I'd be willing to lose a limb to be able to spend a few days here at The Louvre. Thank you for this.
