Full highlights of China's Zhang Jike and Wang Hao's Gold Medal Match in the Men's Table Tennis Singles from the ExCeL Arena on 2 August 2012.
In 1926, meetings were held in Berlin and London that led to the formation of the International Table Tennis Federation. The first World Championships were held in London in 1926, but the sport had to wait a long time before it was given its Olympic debut at the 1988 Seoul Games.

I haven't watched this match yet, but I can say with absolute confidence China wins.
watch again, antartica won
I don't mean to ruin your joke but Antarctica is a continent lol XD
+Jahayra Romero its okay lol that makes it even better for me i just wanted it to make zero sense
+Jahayra Romero Antarctica is a continent tho...
Actually I thought that China would come second☺
table tennis requires reflexes unlike any other. the size of the table just adds to the speed. You wouldn't know how fast this game is going unless you are actually playing the game. They are seriously amazing.
dude I can't even play table tennis by myself and i go easy on myself i can't even see the ball when play with other people @-@
TeaforTwo its not as hard as u think it's easy
yea let's see this drunk guy above get a gold medal. obviously you have no clue what youre talking about.

Arwo
Yeah, I played with a junior Olympic team member for China at my school and I didn’t do too bad but his reflexes and technique and spin was crazy
TeaforTwo yeah In my school were playing and that game doesn't give you room for error you mess up a single inch or angle could lose it all
The Chinese are so good they have no choice but to Play themselves in the Gold medal Match
+Hezzy Quinto They are 1,5 billion, trust me,the chance to have a champion is pretty high in every field :D
+oiurehj i dont think so, indians are also billions but they dont have olympics champions like china
It depends on the culture either...India is not that advanced such as China.
+oiurehj ethopians are not advance as other europian countries but they manage to excel in track and field, its a matter of determination... not culture not population...
I thought Ethopians and those countries in Africa have both fast and slow twitch muscles, which lets them run for a long time and have sprinting spurts.
Lol, in an interview, a Chinese player was like saying in terms of skill, its harder to win the China table tennis nationals than the olympics, tho olympics make them more nervous
A lot of guys say that the hardest test for the top players is the China Super League rather than international tours.
its because the chinese are allowed to only send 2 players so another country can win a medal as well
Han Stephanie only a certain amount of Chinese play in the Olympics so they get to play “easy foreigners”
@Oliver McCall
That would be the ITTF World Championship. The winner of this tournament used to become the #1 ranked player in the world.
@Oliver McCall
The once every 4 years the Olympic Games is for all countries to participate in a competitive but friendly environment. Representation from all countries must be fair. I don't agree with you.

Wang hao lost the Olympic champion title to South Coreen in 2004, to Ma lin in 2008 and to ZJK in 2012, it must be an enormous regret for him. But for me he stays forever as the world's best player who have innovated the table tennis world and inspired so many penholders.
Evan Zeng ma long its the best ever. the reason zhang lost its becuz underhand can never beat overhand cuz it over powers it so much. its almost impossible for underhand to block a players spin shots so it's almost impossible to for under to beat over i use over wang its a bit better than me but i still beat him. but he is the best under player i've ever seen though
That isn't necessarily true. Backhand might not be able to overpower forehand but it can outmaneuver it any day of the week. Wang Hao and Zhang Jike are both 2 clear examples of backhand oriented players that dominated the table tennis world.
@@drunkbyu7515 zjk is up there,he is definitely on par with ml
@@dryskull8605 definitely. It’s a shame injuries ruined his career… even in the 2016 Olympics Zjk’s back problems made him get swept my Ma long 4-0.
Not saying Ma long didn’t deserve the win in 2016, but Zjk was fighting a battle he couldn’t possibly win at his condition

I miss zjk, honestly the most entertaining player in the world, always love his celebration
I'm, like, Wow, they are good......look how fast they hit it. And then, I realized they were just warming up. LOL!
I know they are crazy, but what I don't get is why backyard ping pong is an Olympic sport
This is way more than just backyard ping pong lmao get real
Backyard ping pong? Are you not watching what these guys are doing?
+Daniel Daneilson some Olympics sports are pretty weird, I mean gun shooting is apparently a sport

Does anyone know why they do the lazy rally at 47:48? Seems like he just gave the point away without trying
@@thechanagal396 Might have just been to even out the points? Not entirely sure

Zhang Jike was incredible in this game. Not just his speed was quick but his fore hand shots were so accurate.
the spin they put on that ball is amazing
I played with a guy who could spin and hit like that. I'm very good at table tennis and there's nothing I could do about it. It's incredible. To this day, I still don't know how to do it.
my advice, go to China and train hard.
"spin and hit like that" I doubt that.. you have never experience the top spin of Wang Hao and Zhang so you can never compare them to people you just know.
'similar style' then. Not regular players who hit it back and forth. Pros who never tried to reach National or International levlel. You know.. Juniors with enormous potential who persued other aspects of life (other than table tennis)
Interview to a Chinese player: "do you think that your country china, would be able to defeat china??"
Chinese player: "I'm not sure, china is a hard rival but i will do my best for china"

Table tennis is mean sport. These guys are so good.
I always love to watch ping pong matches in the Olympics! They can get INTENSE! XD Probably one of my favorite events in the Olympics.
agreed. thousand times better than fencing.
Those shouting 'I cant believe this is a sport' just show how ignorant they are. And I feel sorry for them. It requires lots of skills and it's tiring. I can't see why they thought they were qualified to judge a sport like that. Idiots.
its the exact same thing for curling
As someone who has only played maybe twice (and casually at that) and never really watched it played, I still 100% consider this a legitimate, respectable sport. It's physically rigorous, requires great focus and control and a quick mind. Small-minded people seem to think sports should involve more distance and contact, and are accustomed to seeing table tennis tables in rec rooms at hotels. But at this level, these two men are playing a much more delicate, concentrated game of tennis that takes a sharp eye and incredible reflex to master. I guarantee if the detractors tried to play at this intensity for five minutes they'd be mentally and physically fatigued.
It is very, very, very, very, very apart from curling
Table tennis is super tiring, people who say that its not probably compare it to sports like soccer or tennis
I don't like it when people say fencing isn't proper sword fighting. We know it's not proper sword fighting otherwise people would die and it's a show of skill not just charging at them with a massive sword.
UA-cam should add slow motion button for this kind of videos.
What is that sorcery when they serve?
let me know wen u get the answ
Hank Hill It's different kind of spins.

wang hao is sick af. i love penhold players
nonet makoto
Kudos for Wang for giving up his 10-5 point when he was losing the second game. Sportsmanship at its best.
How is that sportsmanship?
And here I am trying to figure out which side of the paddle to hit with.
@Cyruss Playys or use classic penhold. Then you don't have to decide
It depends upon the company and style of your bat. Some bats are rough at black side and smooth at red or vice versa but most bats are built same on both sides so doesn't matter
@@incrediblesam2236 I think you meant the rubber, right? The bat is completely the same on both sides. It's up to rubber which one you use for fore- or backhand Most players have a thicker rubber on the forehand, because thicker rubbers generate more power than thin ones. The colour is just there, because most players use different rubbers for fore- and backhand. With the cdolours it is easier to recognise them. Also if you play pimples as example on the backhand as an defender they often twiddle the bat for the service. And with the two different colours the opponent can know the ball was hit with the the pimples or the regular rubber.
@@janvoss5548 Yup you explained better though
@Cyrus Games Or black. Its just preference for rubber color orientation.

Man.. I thought people saying badminton is not a real sport was bad... but seeing how much more for table tennis, sure feel sorry people think that way about you guys.
Honestly... As a tennis player, playing ping pong requires insane skill and reactions, and watching this just reminds you of that fact
Have you ever play badminton, is so hard more difficult than tennis same about squash. I play both
Edgar M yeah it is much harder and requires a lot more skill but i mean tennis is just more pure physical power with how much you have to run
I play tennis, table tennis and badminton to a highish level and I have to say that table tennis is easily the hardest of the three. The reactions are insanely fast.
Edgar M I respect Badminton players but I have to say yours wrong. Table tennis is far more technical.. You dont even have spin in badminton
Zhang Jike kissing the first place podium is so iconic and hilarious, Wang Chuqin better get a moment like this when he wins LA 2028 😂
Wang Hao...3 times in a row 2. place...unbelievable....
Something about him in this match seemed off. Just before those last few points it seemed like he gave it away. He didn't take very many risks and missed a lot too. Zheng was playing pretty normally.
I'm betting on China for this one

Zhang Jike hitting his backhands way before the ball reaches the top of its trajectory, insanely hard to cope with, Wang was all over the place throughout the whole match
The way he's able to keep the same body and forearm movement until the last second to change direction whether it's a surprise loop to the body or a feint into a top/sidespin loop down the line @21:48 so deceptive and beautiful.
20:29 .. They sure have amazing reactions.

Un très beau match de la part des deux adversaires. Bravo à eux.
Racquet sports take skills, athleticism and intelligence. There is much more to watch in a racquet sport game than a pure physical competition, amazing as it maybe.
China VS China...Seems legit
It is indeed! :)
The top two are both from China. What's the problem?
I remember I was so gutted back then because of Wang Hao's loss. Everybdy knew it was his last Olympics and I think he retired 1 year later. At least he managed to snatch a World title against Wang Liqin in 2009, a title that eluded him so many years before. Now he is the head coach of the Chinese male National Team and I wish him to carry on being successful as a coach.
How are they serving the ball? It's too fast for me to see.
Wang Hao uses shovel serve (aka hooking serve), Zhang Jike uses pendulum and reversed pendulum serves
Penhollder players did not still solve problem with backhand top-spin, and this mach is good example of it, and this is a reason why Chinese best players switch to clasic style.
they should just rename the sport to Chinese Tennis...:D
. Right hahhahahahahah
I literally hold my breath every time they play. they’re so fast jesus
47:53 why did they stop playing serious?
+Yong Geun Song the ball touched wang hao's shirt so its point for zhang jike
That is such a good question
Kar Ho i posted it a year ago, not million years ago. well if it did hit wangs shirt why did they keep playing then?
Yong Geun Song because they waited for the referee to call a decision
also they actually stop playing seriously ...wang hao just lets zhang jike to finish the point off since the referee didnt call a point for zhang. the referee calls the point only when zhang soft smashes the ball. he probably didnt see that it hit wang hao's shirt
Actually before you listen to Chinese commentator, you never realize how skillful and strategic the match is. There are so much going but we just can see it :)
the commentator knows nothing about table tennis. zhang like always uses that knee support, he is not injured. his vocabulary when calling wang ha a master of penholder is very awkward and by the way zhang and wang have different coaches although they are both under liu guo liang, they have private coaches. Olympics should hire its commentators.
