The BEST Conference at the FCS Level... (The History of the Big Sky Football Conference)

- Idaho, Montana, Montana State, and Sacramento State have all played on ESPN this year. 2 of those four teams have upset FBS opponents and all four are expected to make the FCS playoffs as they are all ranked within the FCS top 10 rankings. While North Dakota State and South Dakota State have dominated the national title scene coming from the FCS version of the SEC in the Missouri Valley Conference, the other major conference aka the Big Ten of the FCS has to be the Big Sky which could see one of these teams win the national title this year. The four schools I mentioned at the beginning of this video all come from the Big Sky. This is the History of the Big Sky Football Conference. This is the story of one of the best conferences at the FCS level.

Well, I am an alumni of the University of Montana and a big Griz fan. To me, the Big Sky Conference is definitely one of the big boys in the FCS. Great video highlighting all the great schools in the Big Sky Conference. It was fun to watch. Go Griz!

The Big Sky is one of the most interesting leagues in college football because of its strong regional core, at the axis of I-90 and I-15. 6 schools who make up the majority of the conference's history are all within roughly 400 miles of each other, which is very close in the Western US. There's a strong insular culture in the Big Sky around the existing rivalries like Idaho-Montana, Idaho State-Weber State, Eastern Washington-Idaho, and of course, Montana-Montana State. Every week is special. I hope the Big Sky stays together.

I like the big sky the most dont have a favorite at that level because i like so many teams. I always say the FCS level is real college football because they settle it on the field with a real playoff. Plus i just love how alot of the games are so evenly matched talent wise.

The governing body of the Nebraska university system voted to cut the football and wrestling programs at UNO shortly after that school announced its intention to move from D2 to D1.
When I suggested in a comment on another video that this happened because 'Big Red' in Lincoln didn't want competition in those two sports from Omaha (even though UNO's football program would have been in FCS), I got a very snotty response from a 'Big Red' fan. To this day, I stand behind my position. The Lincoln-vs.-Omaha rivalry in Nebraska is very much 'a thing'. Sometimes an outside perspective is more truthful and valid, even if it's unwelcome. Here endeth the rant. Amen.😊

The Montana Montana State rivalry is better than Iowa Iowa State.O.U. Ok.State. It is intense and cold. Outside with Mountains in the background. 75% of snow. This is the deepest and best.

Montana, Montana state. NDSU, SDSU are too good for the FCS...
It would be fun to watch them play at the FBS level but I think they are finding too much success to justify moving up
