For me this has one of RM's best lines of all time when he says "I'm ill, yeah I'm work itself" because it's actually a quadruple; a double in English and then a double in Korean. He's saying he is "ill" like sick because of the disease as well as "ill" as the slang for cool/good. And then in Korean, "il" means both "1" and "work". So in Korean he is saying he is both number one in the industry and also that he works so much he is work personified. It's just so amazing that he can pack all that meaning in a tiny amount of words.
i think jhope is the main writer of this song i love how they gave the line "I’m actually so young, only my body has grown" to both Jin and Jungkook, since they're the eldest and the youngest of the group also, it's part of the BE album, the album talks about BTS' feelings throughout the pandemic, so yeah, this might also be about the covid
@@tinajezee3807 In J-Hope's BE interview he said that Jimin helped arrange/compose the melody for the bridge while RM helped with the bridge lyrics. Love this song!
JHope is the main writer of this song. He said that quarantine and the enforced rest that came with it was weirdly difficult for him as he felt compelled to be working, and he began to wonder if the need to work was a sort of disease. From that branched a song that basically explored their relationship with work.
You might want to consider an entire album reaction to BE. It's only 8 tracks and two of them are a skit and Dynamite, so really 6 tracks and it's a concept album that they wrote during the pandemic. Each song was mainly written by a different member. This one was J-Hope's and Jimin is credited with the bridge.
this is my favorite song from the BE album! ty for reacting to this, they wrote this album in the midst of the pandemic and how it felt when they couldn’t work, when their world tour got canceled
This is a part of their last album BE, themed around the pandemic, they did such a brilliant job describing all the feelings, this one specifically talks about disease (covid/mental) and the dis-ease of being at home, unable to work. Another favourite of mine from this album is Fly to my room.
Even though the context is that they're not enjoying this kind of forced break from Covid, I actually think that much of what you said is a player in this too. I love that! That's what BTS are all about, they want their songs to mean something to YOU hence that different interpretations are encouraged and so interesting. Thanks so much for your thoughts on this one!
dis-ease is one of their best songs -- and Jimin's vocals here are stunning, and some of his best as well. so expressive! glad you enjoyed this so much.
Dis-ease definitely has one of the best word plays out of all the bts songs! Especially RM’s verse and obviously, Hobi’s as well, since he is the main mastermind behind this song. This song also brings out Hoseok’s old school rap flow, something that we don’t quite get to hear a lot. ALSO, the bridge of this song is ELITE. ARMYs named it ‘bridge of the century’.
Yay! I'm so happy that you finally got around to reacting to Dis-ease! It was a song written by the guys about their feelings during the pandemic last year when all of their touring plans got cancelled. The Korean title "Byeong" (병) is a word that can mean both disease or a glass bottle, so RM referenced both meanings in his verse. You were right in how it uplifts towards the end. I love how real the lyrics are but also how the song still provides hope to encourage you to keep moving forward, despite the "diseases"/struggles we all go through day to day, whether they are diagnosed ones, occupational ones, insecurities etc.
Will put my Patreon comment :) Was really interested in your interpretation of this! I loved how you interpreted it.. I’ll put the different Korean wordplay used below too as it adds more explanation to some of the word/phrase choices 🙂 ‘but I’m just a bastard who eats all three meals a day’ Wordplay: 세끼 (pronounced sekki) means daily meals, while 새끼 (pronounced saekki) means (1) a young animal or (2) a bastard. ‘My sin is being a dog that bites its resting self’ Wordplay: He seems to have used the phonetic similarity between 게 (pronounced ge; a shortened form of 것이, meaning [thing] is) and 개 (pronounced gae; dog). “Biting myself who is resting is my sin” becomes “[Being] a dog that bites its resting self is my sin.” ‘Material things are a stun that my career gives me’ Wordplay: 건 (pronounced gun) is a shortened form of 것은, which means “a thing is” or “things are.” The placement of “stun” makes you think of a stun gun. ‘I’m ill, yeah, I’m work itself’ Wordplay: (1) 일 (pronounced ill) means work. (2) It also means 1, which gives the line its second meaning, “I’m the best, yeah, I’m the No.1 itself.” This glass-like disease hits your head Wordplay: 병 can mean (1) sickness/disease or (2) bottle/jar. 유리병 (glass + 병) means a glass bottle/jar. One of the BEST songs!! Master J-Hope bringing in the win! Thanks for exploring it :) PS: I see 134340 as a suggested song in the end.... oh you will love it Knox!!
Really enjoyed this, your analysis was brilliant and added even more depth to this song. As a lover yourself of layered lyricism, I think you’d find the nuances of RM’s verse especially interesting. For example, when he says ‘I’m Ill, yeah I’m work itself’ it can have numerous meanings. He’s using ill as in disease but also as the slang for awesome/dope, and then in Korean it also can mean number 1 or work. So he’s the top in his field, a workaholic with an ill mindset. I love words and languages! Thank you and get well soon.
Ahhhhhhhh unexpected but so happy you’ve done this song! The whole BE album is a journey of their feelings and thoughts about the pandemic and the situation everyone was forced into. It’s a fantastic album! Would love to see you analyse blue & grey 💜
I think the first few lines are alluding to the pandemic. And the layer after layer and continuity of Dis-ease verses Disease is just such unbelievable wordplay - even more unbelievable because these songs tend to be written by more than one member, although I know this is J-Hope's song. Merry Christmas!
Thank you for reacting to this one. This is my favorite song off of their album 'BE' released in November 20, 2020. I love this song so much. Each member has a project on this album, and This song was one of J Hopes projects, and he worked with Jimin on it. I believe Jimin wrote the bridge on this one. You can go to their channel and they have interviews with each member, and they talk about their parts on the BE album. It was done solely by the members, and they got some help with song production. This song helped me through some tough moments in the pandemic. I was so mad when they didn't get acknowledged for their work on this album. It won awards in the Korean/Asian market, but it didn't get any nominations in America. The whole album was written about the pandemic. V's song Blue and Grey was another one that hit home, and Telepathy. Dynamite was their feel good dance song on this album, to help ARMY's and people around the world to lift their spirits and have fun during the pandemic. Life Goes On is another one that I think should have gotten more recognition. This album got awards around the world and it produced two #1 Billboard Hot 100 hits. Thanks again. Have a great Holiday 💜
@@Myselfandme999 That song was amazing. It got practically no air play. Because it has Korean lyrics, it only got like 6 spins on the American radios. Amazing that ARMY's got it to chart at #1 on the billboard Hot 100 with streams, record sales, and digital sales. no radio play.
Forgot to add the Queen of all BTS songs and that is Spring Day, but if possible could you please watch the explanation by Italian ARMY in the same vid as the song visuals make so much more sense with that. Ahh one of my favourite bts songs!! Thank you for reacting! They wrote this during the first lockdown, it’s basically about how they as absolute workaholics were forced to rest and didn’t like it at all :D
Thank you for reacting to this and discussing mental health in such an open honest way. I love this song, but really needed to listen to the message of it today.
I really really enjoyed your comments on this one and totally agree with you about the structure of the song. I think Suga's comments on mental health could have so many meanings too, my first instinct was that he's talking about how his 'disease' might just get labelled similar to the other 100s of diseases out there and so he's trying to figure out if it's actually his issue or other people's issue? And what you said made so much sense. I love hearing everyone's interpretations. Have a wonderful holiday break Knox and family! Borahae! 💜
I forgot how good this song is. This is from their "pandemic album". In my view, this song perfectly captures what many people felt while they were under lockdown. Wanting to maintain normalcy by continuing to work and do regular things in life, while going through something abnormal that makes us feel uneasy and scared.
I think you might like the DKDKTV explanation of DIS-EASE just to get those korean slangs rt! And you were right! The song is abt mental health, abt being a workaholic, especially the kind of difficulty that a pandemic brought abt on our mental health
Something extremely important for understanding BTS’s music is that their way of addressing mental health is not saying “don’t be sad” it’s saying “it’s ok to be sad, I’m a bit sad myself, but we can get through it together”
I love this song. I’ve had the workaholic Dis-Ease for a long time and it really spoke to me. Esp when this came out. Not only that, it’s very catchy, like pretty much all of BTS’s music, the lyrics are so deep, poetry as you said, and the rap line kills it in this song. Beautiful.
Loved the interpretation, when I first heard this I took it as a commentary on societal pressures ta always be doing something, working always in order ta not only accomplish your goals but ta just live; u need money in order ta eat ( how Hobi says he's a bastard who eats three meals a day implying he actually can eat full meals as opposed ta those who can't) n how much pressure that puts on our mental health n the disease being not knowing when ta rest r take a break. And how even when taking a much needed break you can still feel restless and even unworthy of that break like your being lazy. How the back n forth of needing rest but not wanting to fall behind is like a disease. n then having ta learn that it's okay ta take care of yourself. I really appreciate hearing your breakdowns, your always giving more to think about n it's great. Ty for your reactions 💜
I think this is the most underrated song in the BE album in terms of production and technique tbh. There's so much instrumental greatness throughout the song and it showcased the vocal line's incredible vocal range. It also almost feels like the rap line went back to their roots with their rap verses because the style was very hip hop-like which we all know is amazing. Plus the message, the lyrics and the title itself are very well written. Jhope really did an amazing job with this song and I wished people would appreciate it more. I mean of course all of their songs are amazing, but I specially wanted people to give love to this this one in particular.
Hey Knox just so you know this song was part of their album BE (it was released in Nov 2020) which deals with what they felt about how pandemic brought a halt in their lives and what mental health related and other hardships they faced to which any common person can also relate to!
Hobi's song 🤩🤩🤩🤩 Suga is working in the USA right now, working while he should be on holiday.. Wonder how many Bangers he is producing right now 🤯🤯🤯💜💜💜🇳🇱🇳🇱🇳🇱
Loving your reaction! Most of your explanation about this song is right, it’s talking about how they adjust their mentality and find their position during the covid period. They couldn’t perform directly before their fans so they would question themselves sometimes about what they were doing in last year. This is how this song produced. Hope you can react to the song paradise as well! It is made by suga and it talks about it’s ok to slowing your pace in this fast developing world if you don’t have target, even if you don’t have dream,it’s totally fine. Also the song 134340 in the same album is wonderful too! It uses the relationship between the Pluto and the solar system to be the metaphor of lovers who break up, it’s sooooo ingenious! Again, love your reaction and your sincerity for my boys!
I see you like suga’s part a lot. You should really listen to his song “first love” it took me by surprise how tender but powerfull it is. Its a side of suga i have not seen in any other song with him. Ps i hope you Got Well again 🤗
"BE" IS AN ABSOLUTE TREASURE! written and designed by BTS themselves, and not a single skip on the whole thing. my personal favorites are Telepathy and Fly to My Room (oh god I hope the latter is right, I always forget the exact title lol), but I think you will enjoy the depth of Blue & Grey and Life Goes On too. always appreciate your insightful reactions, Mr Knox 💜
Hi Knox I hope you going to react to the whole BE album, its a masterpiece. This is bts latest album that was made during covid, what makes it so special is that bts had apart in all the process of making this album from the concepts to writing the songs to producing its really amazing and shows how talented they all. They even had vlogs to show Army how they planned everything💜💜
👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏 Beautiful Song... I have no words. I've always loved this song, but I've not dived as deep as I should have with it. Now I love it much more than I ever did before. Merry Christmas Knox (get well soon 😩), Army, and anyone else who reads this 🎄🎊🎉🎁
Me encantó! Muchas gracias!
If you like this song so much I definitely suggest you check out j-hope’s solo work! He helped produce the song and has writing credits on it, and I think you’d really enjoy his other work!! His lyricism is out of this world!
Just a thought, you should get their popular songs out of the way (like Not Today, Fire, Dope, Save Me) so more can find you and then go along the BU journey with you! You deserve so many more subs for your grind and talent. Hope you are on the mend!
I really like this song and honestly the whole of the ‘Be’ album. The context of the rest of the album definitely helps to interpret too: ‘Be’ was written during 2020 in the first wave of Covid when everything was shut down and a lot of people (including BTS) felt very lost and alone. The whole album is about processing the new reality of the pandemic and trying to heal.
dis-ease is such an amazing and meaningful song that just makes you groove so hard too. thing is, dis-ease is from their BE album (an album that's about their journey of emotions, thoughts, and the change of routine during the pandemic). the tracklist is superb. the song-writing, wonderful and profound, as always. it's so relatable and also very comforting. makes people feel less lonely. thanks for checking out dis-ease, knox. i love your interpretation, as always. 💜
love love love this reaction! you interpreted it in a really unique, interesting way. this is possibly my favorite bts song, i love all the ways it plays with society and disease and perspective. seems to me like the pandemic caused the writers of the group to expand and crystalize their thoughts on all of that. this song helped me understand my own burnout and motivations better, too.
I don't know who exactly wrote that line, but giving "Maybe it's because I'm sick, it's because I think too much" to Jin seems very meaningful. He said when he suffered from burnout he kept overthinking things and thinking too much in general. Another time Jin said his main goal is to live without thinking at all in order to live happily. Knowing these kind of anecdotes behind their songs make the lines a lot more powerful imo
Loved your reaction to this one, you're right this should be listened to more, absolutely reading all the lirics. I love how this guy's write, how they put ideas into words and the fact that they are doing it
Really love this song and I’m not even surprised at this point, but you’ve given me a lot more to think about with it and added even more meaning! Love your breakdowns so much 💜

Was really interested in your interpretation of this! I loved how you interpreted it.. I’ll put the different Korean wordplay used below too as it adds more explanation to some of the word/phrase choices 🙂
‘but I’m just a bastard who eats all three meals a day’ Wordplay: 세끼 (pronounced sekki) means daily meals, while 새끼 (pronounced saekki) means (1) a young animal or (2) a bastard.
‘My sin is being a dog that bites its resting self’ Wordplay: He seems to have used the phonetic similarity between 게 (pronounced ge; a shortened form of 것이, meaning [thing] is) and 개 (pronounced gae; dog). “Biting myself who is resting is my sin” becomes “[Being] a dog that bites its resting self is my sin.”
‘Material things are a stun that my career gives me’ Wordplay: 건 (pronounced gun) is a shortened form of 것은, which means “a thing is” or “things are.” The placement of “stun” makes you think of a stun gun.
‘I’m ill, yeah, I’m work itself’ Wordplay: (1) 일 (pronounced ill) means work. (2) It also means 1, which gives the line its second meaning, “I’m the best, yeah, I’m the No.1 itself.”
This glass-like disease hits your head Wordplay: 병 can mean (1) sickness/disease or (2) bottle/jar. 유리병 (glass + 병) means a glass bottle/jar.

Ty for your reactions 💜
dis-ease es una de mis canciones favoritas de bts, y estaba esperando por que reaccionaras a ella, estoy muy feliz. gracias Knox
I mean of course all of their songs are amazing, but I specially wanted people to give love to this this one in particular.
this is a masterpiece! Thank you for this reaction!
Thank you for supporting 🙏
Hey Knox just so you know this song was part of their album BE (it was released in Nov 2020) which deals with what they felt about how pandemic brought a halt in their lives and what mental health related and other hardships they faced to which any common person can also relate to!
Hobi's song 🤩🤩🤩🤩
Suga is working in the USA right now, working while he should be on holiday..
Oooo this is a surprise, I love this song so much
Oh oh oh! Dis-ease let’s go Knox Nation!!
I see you like suga’s part a lot. You should really listen to his song “first love” it took me by surprise how tender but powerfull it is. Its a side of suga i have not seen in any other song with him.
Ps i hope you Got Well again 🤗
I like how his explanations still sound like rap
I literally love this song so much! And it was so fun in concert! We all know the bridge with the “sick and tired” is so iconic
Yeah it was written by Jimin
"BE" IS AN ABSOLUTE TREASURE! written and designed by BTS themselves, and not a single skip on the whole thing. my personal favorites are Telepathy and Fly to My Room (oh god I hope the latter is right, I always forget the exact title lol), but I think you will enjoy the depth of Blue & Grey and Life Goes On too. always appreciate your insightful reactions, Mr Knox 💜
Ma most fave from BE. j-hoooooooooopppeee
RM's lyric is especially clever because "IL" is how you say 1 in Korean. So he's I'll like sick, Ill like awesome (slang) and IL like number 1.
Please react to BTS come back home, trust me you gonna love it
Thank you Professor Knox! You’re a legend 🔥🙏
My fav song in album BE
ur ability to analyze the lyrics even with the cultural barrier and the translation issues is amazing!!
This is on my top three favorites hands down. 👏👏👏💜
Knox eres uno de los pocos youtuber que vale la pena ver, gracias por esta reacción!está canción es una de mis favoritas!
The breakdown king 🤴
Indeed he is 🔥
👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Beautiful Song...
That bridge is just…the beat change, tempo in half time, building and then the brass comes in…I ASCEND.
This song is a masterpiece. It’s not only clever, honest, and just stinkin groovy.
For some reason I didn't like disease at first but eventually it grew on me
If you like this song so much I definitely suggest you check out j-hope’s solo work!
You should def listen to telepathy. It's stil from the BE album.
Dis-ease and telepathy are my fav songs in BE albums.
It’s about COVID quarantine! They’re not used to REST. Forced rest is punishing to workaholics like JHope and RM…
dis-ease is such an amazing and meaningful song that just makes you groove so hard too. thing is, dis-ease is from their BE album (an album that's about their journey of emotions, thoughts, and the change of routine during the pandemic). the tracklist is superb. the song-writing, wonderful and profound, as always. it's so relatable and also very comforting. makes people feel less lonely. thanks for checking out dis-ease, knox. i love your interpretation, as always. 💜
YES!!!! you nailed it - when you analyzed Suga's part. You are wicked smart AND know how to express what you think. I love watching you!
love love love this reaction! you interpreted it in a really unique, interesting way. this is possibly my favorite bts song, i love all the ways it plays with society and disease and perspective. seems to me like the pandemic caused the writers of the group to expand and crystalize their thoughts on all of that. this song helped me understand my own burnout and motivations better, too.
I love how this guy's write, how they put ideas into words and the fact that they are doing it
Best music reactor indeed 👌
Really love this song and I’m not even surprised at this point, but you’ve given me a lot more to think about with it and added even more meaning! Love your breakdowns so much 💜
TURN IT UP IVE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS 🙏

this Is my favorite song of be and rlly it gives me so much energy and the vocals and raps are just something else.
