*EARLY ARRIVAL AT HOUSE FIRE - SYOSSET NY

- At 5:11 PM after a severe thunder storm passed through the area, the Syosset FD received a report of smoke from a house. Soon after the dispatcher started receiving numerous calls reporting a house on fire. Chief 5803 was quickly on scene and transmitted a working fire. Due to quick work by first due companies, the fire which was located in the attic, was under control after about a half hour. E587 and TL582 were first due.
I was on a Suffolk County fire dept 1968-1972.. we were told very explicitly never to break a window unless the officer or chief in charge gave us a direct order. I was taught that was excessive, expensive, unnecessary damage. We were supposed to try and open doors and open the windows if needed. I was on 6 fire departments during my 48 year career, vollie, paid and military. I can’t recall ever breaking a window unless it was totally and absolutely needed. Sometimes I think guys get carried away and just want to do something, and breaking a window(s) seems like that’s the easiest act they can do. They had enough FF go into the house and could’ve opened the back door, and opened windows from the interior. Otherwise it was a good attack and stop.
Can’t believe the ladder crew enters a working fire without being on scba. Was this from 1980?
Wow nice job on the smash and go with that window on the 2/3 corner..
Why do they break the windows?
Don't it help to make bigger the fire?
to get smoke and heat out of the building---If done wrong, it can make things worse
Nice and quick by the boys from 580
WHY DID YOU BREAK THOSE F@!*G WINDOWS!!!!🤯🤯 You guys ruined that savable structure!
I was going to say what everyone else has, is breaking all the windows really going to do any good or is he just getting his rocks off. Some of these I watch make me think you don’t need water, just a saw and something to poke a hole in the roof and to knock out the windows while a bunch of guys stand around watching.
Was a nice house! Couldn’t they flip down windows rather then smash out?
ok what is wrong in this picture ? probie has a pack on but kennedy and brophy do not
Nice work guys keep it
Rip g bandos house
Fire in the attic..NO reason to start breaking widows after the fire is under control, if you have to start taking out windows remove the whole thing!!
@Ziek Moore
Thanks for confirming that you have no clue what you are babbling about
@@virgilhilts3924 LOL...the house is a one story shed, pull the ceilings and get it.

You've never worked a fire in your life... Yes, we got it the first time 🤣
@@JB91710
No need to guess...
Your own words PROVE you are a no experience phony
🤣🤣🤣🤣
Was no need to take out the windows
Seems like these guys have done more damage than the lightning !
Absolutely no excuse for taking the windows on the the C/3 side! This was obviously an attic fire, with very little smoke damage to 1st floor!
How embarrassing to see. So much excessive damage for a small attic fire. Breaking stuff just to break it.
I think the officer on the first piece in should have done a better job reading the smoke conditions when arriving, that would have let him there was no need to smash all the windows out and that the fire was in the attic!!! Just an opinion of someone with experience in the fire service! Other then that it was a smooth operation. The great thing about these videos, it’s always a great way to learn and grow as apartment.
A lot of lessons here - mostly I would like to say to the men and women in overhaul conditions - BREATH CLEAN AIR with your SCBA during overhaul !. The AIR IS FREE. Do not overhaul without it !!!!!!! Be strong enough to lead from this view point. It is pointless to wear the SCBA and NOT BREATH CLEAN AIR FROM IT !!! The off gassing toxins in that house ARE DEADLY. In Solidarity
The destruction did seem excessive.
@Allan Lester
So you would rather they not be thorough and leave embers behind to rekindle the fire?
Every bit of that drywall is going to have to be removed anyway due not just to the fire, smoke, and water...
But also to inspect and replace wiring, as well as insulation, replace fixtures, insulation, etc
@@JB91710
Your words proving once again you have never been a firefighter
😆😅😂🤣
@@virgilhilts3924 thanks for the tutorial 🤨
@@allanlester3561
Well... you clearly needed it
@@virgilhilts3924 you should write for late night TV
What happen to the if you can open the windows open them & if it's not black/burnt stop theories, seemed a bit much
Absolutely no reason to be breaking out all of those windows. Yes I am well seasoned in the fire service so my comment comes with experience and knowledge.
His name is ANANO 169 COMPANY ONE he needs retraining there were a lot of mistakes at this fire to start with at the start at the front door probie has a pack on but the other two ff do not Kennedy and Brophy none of the ff doing the overhaul have there face piece on the kid in the rear taking out those two windows while a dep chief is seen on the other end of the rear of the house does nothing this should have not been done not necessary I was in this dept for 25 yrs and retired from fdny ems 1984-2014 so I have been to a few fires in my time
Wow, pretty much destroyed that house for an attic fire!
Truck company needs to show the engine company how to hustle. Good job truck
Nice job guys quick and to the point

A new coat of paint and some throw pillows it will be good as new
Just bulldoze the house next time…
Absolutely no reason to break all the windows.
Broke thoses windows avoidable damage and it does not remove all
Who propped open the front door? Good grief.
