thanks for this. Google's go to answer for 'breeding otos' is 'Breeding ottos is hard, catch them wild', lol. This helps a lot more. I remember scooping up a load of dirt and algae from the river near some rocks a few years ago and adding it to my tank and I saw one of these. I couldn't believe my luck but unfortunately my gold fish swallowed him whole.
Brilliant Mark, I've been waiting for this one!...great to see that you are also back in the tropicals too...Looking forward to seeing more soon...by the way, I followed your "Breeding bettas" and am very pleased to say that my first brood was around 40-50 I lost 4 and now all the males are Jarred as juvies (27) and the local fish shop is buying them off me...I couldn't have done without your excellent videos...More, please Master Breeder. :-)
Really excited to see your method and can't wait to see the little babies this is one of my favourite fish thank you for putting so much time and effort into this just to show us all that it's possible can't wait
Heya Mark, good to see you and another vid. I often tell everyone what an awesome video creator, fish breeder and also what a great down to earth guy you are. Your my first choice on you tube. Was just telling a guy how I learnt about breeding CPDs off watching your vids plus researching n reaching out n contacting the guys who first ver bred them in captivity (also a great pommy guy_ who now I’m friends with. I always recommend for ppl to come watch ur stuff…anyhoo…great to see this new gorgeous new set up…Im excited….I have 3 ottos, 2 narrow n one big fatty boom boom female. 😳🤪💙
Great topic Mark, I have one fry, 4 weeks old and still going strong! The males will change colour into some silverish shade when in breeding mood. I feed them high protain veggie pellets, algaewafers, red paprika & cucumber. The fry is kept in a separate container in the main tank and grows on Sera fry food & infusoria-sticks.
@@Irishhamsterman That is the same procedure as with the other vegetables. I just rins the outer skin, cut a piece and put it on a skewer. After two-three days all red will be eaten and only the transparant outer layer remains which you can remove. I do not boil or blanch anything. Just give the otos some time. Good luck! (I tried yellow and green paprika as well, they do eat it but not nearly as eager as the red ones)
@@merijn1975 I already used cucumber raw myself, tried paprika after reading you did, works well, so I tought then tomato should also work and it does, raw courgette was no succes in the past. Going to try to breed them but first see how Mark does it.
Amazing, how exciting. Look forward to watching the whole process of this project you have going! My guy and I love watching your videos and I have been really looking forward to this new project you are doing! I hate that I am a nice person and am going to wait for him to get home from work to watch this video with him lol
Glad to see your back breeding freshwater fish. I don’t know if you’ve tried some of these but you can also make breeding videos of: Peacock gudgeons, electric blue acaras, caradina shrimp, and celestial pearl danios.
Really looking forward to this series. I've got a male and 2 females breeding constantly in a 10 gallon planted shrimp tank. Unfortunately they're mostly dying off at about a week old. They are on pool filter sand over garden soil. I had no idea substrate could clog their gills. Learned something new already. Love your videos!
I'm looking forward to your new challenge but disappointed you got shot of the native marine set up which looked fantastic and was absolutely fascinating.
I watch all yr vid.s love em mate...but ill be extra interested in this ive got oto.s.. shrimp and cory.s.. snails...be nice to have my oto.s breed...catch ya on the next vid..stay safe...
Fantastic video, as always Mark! I might have missed it, but could you tell us a bit more about the setup please? Specifically, what size tank?, Was it an Oase canister filter you are using? And if so, how are you preventing any possible fry from getting sucked in?, one more, the lightning looks great, for both algae growth and the plants, what kind of lights are you using? Thanks again, I really enjoy your channel, Great work!!
I have ottos that are full of eggs but can't seem to trigger them I think the males may not be mature I'm not sure I am trying to do everything I possible to make this happen I would love to have a tank bred family of ottos
Great video as always mate, please, please, please can you make a video on breeding Mikrogeophagus altispinosus/Bolivian ram, can't find one anywhere on UA-cam, plenty on blue rams but nothing on Bolivian rams
Do you have any suggestions on websites to buy from? Im in America and I love this catfish, but only one store near me sells them and they're all wildcaught.
Hip hip hooray!!!! magic words!!! Cycled the tank with a bit of cooked prawn!!! One of my Betta fish died and I am preparing the tank again for another fish.....he was not diseased - so only changed the water and renewed substrate as I wanted gravel instead of sand - kept my plants without washing them, and did not clean out filter sponge - HOPING my cycle would not be disturbed! But I do believe it has been - been feeding the tank with flakes - but all water tests are 0......believe I should at least have some nitrates showing - always did before.......so now have a prawn in the tank - 2 days or so ago. How long should that take to cause ammonia????? Hope your little Blenny is making a home and laying eggs by now!!! K
Hey Mark, so I was checking up on all my fish tanks, and I found some eggs on the glass of my 20 gallon long Currently it’s housing ender guppy hybrids A pair of otto catfish, and one Cory do you think those eggs could be from the atto’s
This is just great, Mark! There's thousands of people worldwide that will be ecstatic once they discover this breeding series.
You predicted the future 😮😮

You are so lucky take advantage of that and do everything you can to grow them to adults!!!
I have one pregnant female in my guppy tank, any tips?
I'm looking forward to your new challenge but disappointed you got shot of the native marine set up which looked fantastic and was absolutely fascinating.

Hi Mark it has been a while since we didn't see yr videos, let's follow the evolution of these fish and hope that they well spond.
Going to properly miss Aunt Blenny, alltime favourite.
So am I, she was so great to watch.
I almost cried. I'll bet it was quite a shock to be put back.
Gutted you got rid of the native marine tank I was loving that series
I'll be doing another one next summer 😀👍
are otocinclus okay with medium small rocks as substrate? i would call it gravel but many people see that as the gravel with uneven surfaces
Disappointed Welsh shore aquarium gone but really looking forward to this new tank
Love to see it

Awesome
Cool content Mark. Any chance of breeding Octopus?
Hope all is well, have not seen you popping up on my feed much, and not seeing anything being posted.
Do you have any suggestions on websites to buy from? Im in America and I love this catfish, but only one store near me sells them and they're all wildcaught.
Most of the websites will have them wild caught as well. I don't think there's many breeding programs around
Help I noticed one of my Otos is pregnant 😃 It is in a tank with cory dora and guppy fish. it is safe to keep her with the rest?
how did u get so many diatoms?
What is your temperature? And are you using tap/rain or RO water?
RO water 26 degrees Celsius 😀👍
Alright mark mate. How’s it going lad?
I poor them into a bowl and then net them to go into the tank with a shrimp net. I never dump the shop water in my tanks too.
Still missing ya man ! Where are you. Hope you are well. X X
