Hot Speckled Action - Starting The New Year With Fatties - January, 2023

Happy New Years! How about starting the New Year off with a fast action fishing trip?
Icy and I had a limited amount of time to fish due to other obligations. We launched a bit later in the morning at Flamingo and headed out to see if we could get back into those speckled seatrout that we finished off last year with.
The tide was super low both due to the tide cycle and the moon phase. The area where we fished two days prior had barely enough water to set up a drift. We worked the flat for about an hour with only a jack to show for the effort, then the action started.
We ended up making two drifts, the first much more successful than the second. We were catching trout from 12 to 19 inches, and lost a few that may have been larger. One of those caught had been attacked as you'll see in the video. We both limited out, fished for a bit more just for the fun of it, then decided to go exploring.
The area we explored did not prove productive. Whether it was too shallow or too muddy, who knows. We did soak some cutbait trying for some sail cats but without success.
Overall, it was a very exciting, productive first trip for 2023. I'd like to thank you all for coming along on yet another of these fishing adventures and for staying with the channel.
