      Legalizing opium and making morphine available for low level use and treatment is the only way to undercut the cartels. Those are both manageable in terms of cost and health consequences.
      No, the cartels won't go away immediately. But you can either fight them at full strength. Or you can medicalize and legalize the drug issue and deal with it much more cheaply through health and social services and legal producers while choking out the illicit producers.
      It's absurd to do anything else when virtually all evidence suggests that prohibition and interdiction are the MOST expensive and MOST violent/destructive courses of action.

      Keep grinding, the quality of your life is driven by the quality of your thoughts. We all go through self doubt in that quiet moment before falling asleep or when first waking up to the “suck” button stuck in the “ON” position…give yourself that brief moment of self pity, Then get your ass up and figure shit out; those moments of self doubt will fade when you focus on making things happen. Look around at the landscape around you, and take action; think, overcome, and do it with a full heart.

    Shawn, my wife and I just lost our daughter Wednesday to the opioid crisis. I'm a Marine Corps combat veteran of Iraq and Afghanistan. I've lost good friends, family etc; but I've got to tell you nothing comes close to losing a child! Thank you for shining a light on the fentanyl and opioid problem and who's responsible. One way or another this crisis has touched the lives of everyone in this country! I hate these drugs and the people who push them! Jokes aside, amazing work and amazing content as usual.
      Really wish these would go more viral than they already do. People in this country really need to wake up to this out of control catastrophe of a speeding freight train crashing straight into our loved ones, friends and neighbors. Wake up America! We’ve turned a blind eye to these issues for far too long.
      Time to stop turning the shoulder to these issues and face them head on as a unified nation.

      Not to mention a voice (via Ioan's reporting) to the mothers who've had sons who are totally uninvolved in cartel business dragged from their homes and kidnapped then murdered in spite of the ransom being paid. That poor kid deserves to be remembered and though I'm not a great Catholic I'm gonna say a few prayers for his soul and his mother. I have heard that tale or read it in one of his books before but today it really, really hit me thinking of my own mother and how something like that would destroy her.
      I never cease to be given reasons to be grateful for being born an American in the 21st century in spite of all the problems we face, at least my mom isn't worried that could happen.

    GREAT SHOW ! I cant emphasize enough to anyone who is watching this episode and keeping tabs on the cross border issues and the nuevo quasi drug war cartel situation how spot on this guy is.. I have been seeing and hearing about the ever changing and constant mutations within these complicated topics first hand sometimes and I must say how accurate this journalist is and how well he seems to understand the many different ways that these issues are related and how they are affecting each other and overlap. It really is a messy and ever-changing inter-related bunch of things that are happening within the bigger topic of there drug war. This is how splintered and yet still completely very tangibly connected the drug war has metastasized or intertwined into nearly all the aspects of the relationship of America to its neighbors in our hemisphere of there world. These complicated issues are a important part of the future and the past of the United States and its legacy , more importantly for all of us........ it is a part of our everyday present and is affecting every aspect of our lives . Especially those of use who live closer to the Southern border of the U.S. and Mexico. This guy is well informed and understands the problem and its affect on each and every one of us may it be a big or small influence on our lives. Great and informative exposé on the many faces of the drug war.

    I’m half Mexican, my mother is from Sonora and when my grandma died I didn’t let me mom go. She knew I was right. I’ve been to war on three separate occasions and I’m not going to voluntarily put myself in a war zone with no support cause that’s what you’re doing. Last time I was in Mexico I was in TJ stationed in Pendleton so we took a day trip. I caught onto a group of guys following me on both sides of the street watching me walk with my toddler. I knew they were locked on and I was fucking scared cause I didn’t know if they wanted me or my kid. At that moment a taxi pull up and let someone out and I dove in the taxi with the kid and thank god the driver wasn’t a prick. I explained the situation and he took me to the border. Those guys following me started running, I’m assuming to their cars but they never caught up. The driver was a good soul and didn’t even take payment. He could tell my Spanish was more Cuban than Mexican and told me to stay out of this shit hole and didn’t take payment. I can still see his face. So yeah, fuck Mexico! You can have it!

    I live in SD and go down to TJ every once in a while for dental service, or to surf Baja, etc. every time I go down there it feels like I’m back in Baghdad. I actually felt safER in Baghdad because at least I was armed and I knew who the bad guys were. Down there., the bad guys hide in plain sight, and often wear badges. You don’t know who’s who.

      I live near San Diego. Well like two hours away. But I've been to tj before. Iv taken the tj airport to guadalajara. I want to go again soon. If you ever plan to go to Mexico and not just the border cities I recommend you go with a Mexican friend that knows his way around. I always stay with family when I go. I don't go out at night. When we go out we always go together. Guadalajara is a pretty big metropolitan city. It has modern buildings and colonial architecture. And high end stores

    • @jonathanramos8414
      @jonathanramos8414 Рік тому

      I want to see more of Mexico but I'm kind of conscious about it. Like monterrey neuvo leon that's another large metropolis but it was once controlled by the zetas. And people there lived in fear. Until recently it's ok. Ciudad juarez chihuahua. The infamous murderous city across el paso. That's were they shot sicario. I'm afraid of that city but I'd go if it was with someone. Morellia michoacan is another one I want to go to. And chiapas. That's were the zapatista guerrillas hide in the mountains. Those guys are cool. They don't get along with narcos. They are a very independent people. They often fight for indigenous rights. Anyone that's against cartels is cool in my book

    • @jonathanramos8414
      @jonathanramos8414 Рік тому +2

      Sadly the autodefensas of michoacan or the self defense groups tried fighting back against the knights templar cartel which they did run out of michoacan but the government turned them into the rural defense police. Which was stupid because they were co opted by the state and the cjng who it turns out were funding the autodefensas. They're are still some genuine defense groups out there like el machete in Guerrero. And even In michoacan who are bravely fighting the good fight. But it's hard tell who's a fake defense group and who's real. Because the united cartels in michoacan are made up of ex templars and autodefensas. They are fighting the cjng. Mexico is a convoluted mess

If you haven't heard Shawn's story on it, he talks about it on Mike Drops podcast when he did the episode on there a couple years back. Hearing about a Ex-Navy Seal/Ex-CIA Operator hustling cocaine down in Mexico and South America is a one of a kind story, that's for damn sure.
