      I use a ketchup bottle to keep my denatured alcohol in for my tiny alcohol burner cook stove, it's easy to pour and it doesn't spill everywhere.
      I like the idea of the frozen peas in it, that way I can just sprinkle some in my dumplings or soup. You don't have to drag the whole bag out every time.

      I buy@@thelowcarbchronicles9059 I buy the large bags of organic pre-peeled garlic at Costco, dump them into a small food processor and mince. I read you can add a pinch of salt to the mixture and just a bit of water. Then I freeze in small ice cube trays, once frozen, into a plastic bag. Some of it I slice, put on tray for an hour or two in freezer, then into a bag. Not original ideas - read it from others! LOL

    OMGOODÑESS I am overwhelmed by all your wonderful tips and I thought I had cornered the market on using the freezer to save money! You are my new Hero! Seriously, I am going to watch this again a couple more times to not let anything relevant slip past me. Seeing this makes me wish your videos could be broadcast in schools both for the adventure of recycling and to help children with small amounts of food in their household learn how to manage and stretch it. Often times children can educate their parents. When parents are stressed trying to make ends meet and don't have time to watch videos, children will come to the rescue with a, "Mom or dad, why don't you try this ,,, we saw it on a video at school". Anyway, as I said, a Wish. Thank you so much for sharing your frugal homemaking thoughts with us. Keep up the great work!

    I have a storage tip that some of you may already know also. I use the large file folder rubber bands that we used to use in the corporate world to wrap my packages. It is a bag of frozen blueberries, you take out what you want and you roll it down into a smaller size in rubber band it. Really safe space and you can see where everything is. And nothing breaks open please. Someone came to my place one time and got something out of the freezer and said oh my God I can see everything and it's great. And I said it came out of necessity. Because I kept screwing up stuff and I never knew what I actually had in the freezer. But I also use the big rubber band trick on everything. It is my official clips on bags way of saving things.

    Enjoyed this immensely. I sort my bottom freezer with clear plastic containers. I pre-chop while cooking a current meal.. Love all your ideas and presentation.👌😊

    Your comments and directions were helpful and appreciated - even those about reusing containers, bags, etc. However, in this year of extreme inflation (July 2022 as I write this) your ideas are even more appreciated. Few of us can afford to waste even a single lettuce leaf! I honestly don't know how people are feeding families with 2 or 3 growing kids that eat like miniature horses. I'm just a single person but I bought one of those small 5.5 cf freezers for my garage. Allows me to freeze portions, purchase on sale, etc. I can also rely on contents in the event of forecasted food shortages. Thank you so much!!

    By the way, peas are good in smoothies. Depending on the other ingredients and how much you use, you may not even taste them at all. Same thing goes for various cooked beans. One of my children does not care for most meats but loves smoothies, so we sneak in some extra nutrients and protein in this manner.

    • @TheFrugalMinimalist
      @TheFrugalMinimalist  4 роки тому +7

      So great to know! Does your child like pesto? Pea pesto is wonderful as well. My son goes through phases of eating less protein/meat too so I try to sneak protein in when I can too!

    • @108Asmita
      @108Asmita 3 роки тому +7

      There is another way of adding proteins in your diet is roast as many variety of lentils as you can about 1/2 a cup each of your choice add to a tray and put in the oven for until they are cooked. Just like that without soaking. Then leave it out when they cool down powder them and keep in an air tight jar for use in curries or soups spoonfuls for thickening plus very nice taste too. Hope you'll like the idea that way children eat them without knowing. They taste delicious I've tried them with children and also in cooking when I'm a volunteer in retreats . Enjoy the tricks.

    I've been making cat food for our 5 elderly and infirm cats recently and am reusing old jars to hold 3 day amounts and freezing them. The cats are all looking and feeling much better than when they had a store bought diet! In the bigger jars I make up salads to take to work for lunch, kept cold with a couple of frozen bottles of water (I usually fill them 2/3 full and then add juice or water to the top before I leave the house). You gave great tips for getting even more use out of our freezer, so thanks!

    Terrific ideas - so glad this popped up in my recommendations. I have always been a big fan of freezing food - especially cooked foods for easy weeknight meals. I think people who aren't experienced freezers will be amazed at how many foods freeze beautifully. One key to freezing food you cook at home is to freeze any leftovers right away after cooling them to at least room temperature.

    Can you imagine storing soup in used chip bags? An elderly Hungarian I was friends with taught me that trick. As soon as the soup cooled down, he’d ladle it into a Doritos bag. I don’t buy enough chips to do that, but Butcher Box (we have a subscription) sends us salmon in thick freezer bag packaging, so that will be good for soup! And yes, tape will be a great way to label…..or maybe dry erase markers?

    Excellent video! I never thought of using glass jars. And I love the peas in a plastic bottle thing. Unfortunately, I don't use ketchup, so I'll have to look for an alternative. I almost always buy meat in the family pack, even though I only cook for 1. It's much cheaper and freezing in individual portions means that I can vary my diet throughout the week instead of having to eat the same thing for days so it doesn't go bad.

We love freezing local strawberries, other berries and sliced banana pieces and finely sliced pineapple and mango pulp too. A small handful of frozen strawberries blended with a cup of milk is very refreshing and cooling on a hot afternoon when its too hot to eat much. I like how it is frothy and cold and so sweet as fresh strawberries. Yum. Thanks very much for the inspiring video.

    I have used those free address labels that companies send unsolicited. Dark marker is easily seen over the address. Since the items are used fairly quickly and the tags get thrown out so a different one can be put on, using the address labels saves a lot of money. I even tag things in the refrigerator section so we don't have to open every opaque container to see what is in it.

    It is so good to see an American UA-camr reusing and reducing waste. I see so many videos from the US where they show driving everywhere and throwing away recyclable or reusable items. In Europe we would never do this, and the planet belongs to everyone.
