It’s not just slugs but the entirety of phylum Mollusca. And it’s not a parody they speak the prophecies that shall come to pass. Mullusca be praised.
And for anyone wondering, malacology, the study of molluscs, is a legitimate field of biology. It encompasses gastropods like slugs and snails, bivalves like mussels and clams, and cephalopods like octopi and squids. They have their own international conferences and everything.
Testify brethren!
that shell come to pass ;)
Hail mollusca 🐌
Glad you’re giving these guys some attention. They have a pretty unique and progressive sound
I can't stop listening, it's so good
Sam should teach metal history at a university. I love his enthusiasm with every review
It could be a 3 credit class.
Darkhtrone's Fenriz has done it already - his master class is unbeatable ! :)
ua-cam.com/video/y9-5urh814s/v-deo.html
He would be solid imo, Blayne would be the most entertaining and loved one tho
Hasn't he already kinda done that? His documentaries!
@@Lmix211 True BUT if it was accredited, I'd be on that in a heartbeat
When he said they had been “literally underground” I was expecting him to say they were like living and recording in a survivalist bunker or something
All hail molluska
Context?
I was not expecting something this awesome to come across my plate today. This is an amazing surprise of an album. Sam you sure know how to weave fair enthusiasm in to your reviews.
Space Chief Meepo the Geomancer
Pleased ta meet ya.
Thank you for listening to my demands of Gatecreeper lovin'
How come you're not reviewing it on Banger?
Aggressive Tendencies its a very good record but the gatecreeper part of the split its just too short but have to say that the song dead inside its full on death metal perfection. I thought you will give shout outs to the new code orange single which is rather weird but I liked it
That's just the way she goes sometimes, I suppose!
I wish there was more Gatecreeper for sure, but hopefully they're saving it for a full on LP!
@@elderender Dead Inside might be the best Gatecreeper track to date. Actually it just is.
Good to see Slugdge get some recognition.
Thanks Sam!
Matt Moss Thank you, Matt! Album’s an absolute monster - haven’t been this is impressed with a British DM record since Descanting blew my tiny mind back in the day.
Thanks Stewart, you're too kind!
personally I like the long songs, there are two breeds of metal heads, those who like them short, and those that like them long.
I'm a massive grindcore fan, so no idea what i'm doing with my life!
Gastronomicon is a killer blackened sludge metal album. Slugdge is cool. Esoteric Malacology is another excellent record
Ocean Sage yeah if you want you can purchase a compilation of all their past work called Cosmic Cornucopia on their bandcamp. Such great musicianship considering the mollusk punny themes.
Glad you reviewed these guys, they have been so unknown, was recommended by a random guy on FB, glad their name is getting out there!
Thanks for the review, Sam. Sounds like an album I will enjoy so I'll get it. Love discovering new bands through Banger TV.
Thanks for reviewing some newer/unheard of bands. Slugdge has always been so great, glad to see them get some big coverage!
Thank you for bringing this to my attention! I have never heard of Slugdge but now I'm glad I have and I gotta check em out. Thanks Sam!
Slugdge is absolutely one of my favorite metal bands going right now. First got into 'em when Gastronimicon released. So stoked to see them reviewed so positively by Sam. All hail Mollusca!
heck yeah never heard of em but great to see a review! The Iron Regan/Gatecreeper split so great tbh.
I just listened to this last night based solely on the cover and was shocked and how rad this record is. I agree with the Gojira comparison and I hear some Mastodon in there as well but it's not so derivative that it takes you out of the music. Definitely think this will get some major plays in 2018
That cleans are so Mastodonish. Loved it
Spectral burrows is song of the year type of stuff. Love to see this band gain more attention now :) For those interested, you should really read the lyrics, they're well written and fascinating.
Absolutely!! So fuckin haunting...
For me it's either Spectral or Salt Thrower. Killer band killer fucking album.
Thank you so much for pointing me towards this album. Absolutely incredible work
Love your channel Sam
Thanks!!
Great review as always Sam!
Great review of a great album, also glad to see Sam back. I can definitely say that this will probably sit pretty high on my list for the rest of the year also.
Good stuff, i love the guitar sound it's heavy and crushing but melodic at the same time.
Love this channel, keep 'em comin'!
Definitely gonna pick this on up.
Thanks for the review
Excellent review... I'm still waiting for more Slugdge. Unfair!
Thank you Sam! :-) Will def check this album out!
Holy shit how are these guys not more popular? I get that the band is kind of a gimmick, But its fucking great!
I just found out about these guys on Monday! Crazy to see them on here
4,5/5
Damn...I have to check this out. Btw, There's an other review after this ? Right ?
Awesome review! Glad I subscribed
thanks for giving slugdge a chance, they really grew as a band and slugs. fav song: salt thrower
The album is amazing. Best thing i've heard for 10 years or more.
Mostly agree with your review, except about the lyrics! If you're a reader of science fiction as I am, you'll appreciate the effort gone into crafting these tales told through verse, about imaginary worlds, beings, and monsters, to go along with the pounding, crushing death metal riffage. It's one thing to have a brutal sound of despair weeping from an electric guitar, but overlay it with words such as
"...And the last bastion of light shall fall into ruin
Once besieged, the walls shall liquify beneath
The force of Rhaexorog's harrowing screams"
And you give some further weight to the shreddage. It definitely adds another dimension to the experience for me, and I think the band's inventiveness should be recognized. Yeah, it's death metal, and growling nonsense is acceptable (see Cryptopsy), but when a band puts attention into what they write, it makes a noticeable difference in the tone and delivery of the music, I think. I think the theme is really fun with Slugdge.
PS... thanks for pronouncing "Slugdge". I was trying to pronounce it as "sludge" but with an added G.
edit: nevermind, you taught me wrong. Matt from the band pronounces it like sludge. Just say "slug" but with a "dge" at the end like you're saying "sludge".
Reminds me of dropping in to the cthulu mythos that Sulphur Aeon has been doing. It's awesome!
Whenever a band gets creative with their lyrics you can't help but like them more
ALL HAIL MOLLUSKA! may his slime spread far into the hearts and minds of this community!
How have I never heard of these guys. Revocation and Gojira are some of my favourite bands and these guys are straight up my alley. Thanks for the great review Sam!
Surprised to see this covered here since Slugdge were total underground till now I feel. Good for them they got themselves a bigger label and the attention they deserve because they are fucking great.
Damn I'll be giving this band a serious listen, thank you for the review Sam! And just giving just a general thumbs up on having an awesome channel/site and a team with great vibes, viewpoints & reviews- I never get bored personally. Added perk - I tend to discover new bands very often via Banger and it's always a treat to jam out to something new. Thanks! Edit: Waiting on tshirts so I can support. Make em for the ladies too please haha
Im comming back to this video, couse after this review i became obsessed with that record. For me album of the year so far.
After seeing the font on the cover and the album art, I really did not expect to come away interested in the album. I fully expected yet another techdeath scalesterbation album. I'm glad I decided to watch the review anyway. Definitely going to check this one out.
Thanks for recommending this album. I'm going to order it next payday.
Hats off to you, Sam, for bringing light to the underground.
Wow, sounds awesome. I definitely be giving this a listen or two.
Nice to see you again lml
Thanks for posting this, I have never heard of these dudes before. This album fucking kills 🤘🏻
Just heard these guys yesterday and was blown away
I really didn't expect for the songs to be this good, will definitely check this out
very creative stuff love the vocals
I will check them out 👍
Love your reviews Sam! Decided to buy the album after watching this! 5.99 on google play!
This album came out of no where and blew us away! Loving every second of It!
Just got my vinyl copy in today. I’m telling you people, this is album of the year type shit!! Sooooooooo good!
I'm glad I now know how to pronounce this band's name. I've liked what I've heard.
I'd like to also give a shout out to the new Black Moth album, Anatomical Venus. It's in the same realm as Witchcraft or Blood Ceremony with dashes of new wave.
So so glad these guys are finally getting some press.
Great review as always, You guys should check out Debt of Aeons the new album by King Goat
Love this band since the first record. They are amazing
I never thought about that Gojira comparison until you pointed it out. That riff does sound very Gojira-ish!
Destruction shirt - excellent choice!
Welcome back Papa Dunn. Welcome back.
That t shirt.. so yumi
Gonna have to check this one out. First off, I like the name. Second, I dig the concept. Third, the clips sound cool as fuck. Fourth, how often does Sam Dunn give a record 4.5 skulls?
I guess to be fair, though, every now and again Sam gives Operation Mind Crime 5 skulls. Can't always hit the bullseye, I suppose.
Yeeeeees I love this style of death metal! God it's great, I just got all their albums now hahaha
Cool Destruction Eternal Devastation t-shirt
It's fucking mind blowing how this band is just 2 guys. All of their music has this godly sound. Real dark, cosmic vibe. I love it
im sooo gonna get this album !!!
Best band since Anaal Nathrakh. 9/10
Please could you review the new Sumac split album?
Yay!
Amazing tshirt !!!! please start printing your banger logo tshirts ....its badass and its super cool ...
Ahhh love this album!!
Is it me or can you hear the cuts where they stopped recording and did another take in these sound clips?
Agree 100%! Fucking awesome album, listening to these guys at work nonstop for weeks now.
I downloaded the album three minutes into this video xD Sounds like a great fun band.
My album of the year tbh
Sounds really nice
This HAS to end up as a top ten this year. Incredible album.
That Iron Reagan and Gatecreeper Split is great
This album is crazy good, Slugdge are my idols. Hail Mollusca!
I hope that they review the new album by The Dali Thundering Concept, which comes out next month.
This sounds really fucking cool, off to their bandcamp!
This album is nuts!
It looks very good, I will listen It soon!
Great t shirt 🤘
Please review Oceans Of Slumber - The Banished Heart, that came out today and it is incredible. Prog Doom Metal at it's finest...
so all the songs are 30 minutes long?
That Album was great. Not quite as fantastic as Winter, but still great.
Whelp, now I'm a Slugdge fan. Thanks for the review! And that Iron Reagan/Gatecreeper split is fucking TITS!
Thanks Sam, now I can't unhear Gojira. Again not a bad thing. Definitely gonna check it out. Good to see you back.
Tidy review, a powerful mix of influences by the sounds of it. I'll give this a listen for sure.
Can you guys review a Windir album? Honestly ome of the most underrated BM bands out there. I'm hoping for a '1184' review.
Hail Valfar.
Its a full band now. Matthew Lowe is on bass, and for that BDM sound their drummer is Alan Cassidy.
I do most of my clothes shopping in record stores as well.
Good choice
You guys need to review the new Andrew W.K. album. Super curious as to what your thoughts are on it
We totally would! But we didn't get the album advance in time to tape a review for release date. (This happens sometimes and is one reason why certainly albums don't appear.)
So that's how you pronounce their name? Been digging these guys for years. Good stuff.
What happened to 2 reviews a week. Come on Sam, come on Banger!!! I'm only bitching because I enjoy you guys work
\m/
I am very impressed and will be looking for this album in my local store. Almost missed the review because I wasn’t impressed with the album cover. It is too colorful in my opinion. I feel that it doesn’t reflect the music they play. Anyway, glad that I checked it out. Thank you
I didn't care about death metal lyrics but then I read the lyrics for Artificial Brain 'static shattering'. they are some superb lyrics.
Vince Williams Suffocation? I'll check that out henceforth.
Check out Bradley's reviews he tends to go deep on the lyrics.
Slugdge is amazing!
FUCK YEAH SLUGDGE
Sounds a bit like Woods of Ypres. Right?
Their songs names are magnificent. Spore Ensemble!
its an amazing album, I knew Slugdge through this album :)
