    The best explanation on UA-cam, especially since many cover fireplaces with starter buttons. Thanks!!!

    This was a great video in that it actually told me where the pilot light was. All the other videos just tell you to hold the lighter near the opening, but no one said where it was! Maybe sounds simple, but I couldn't find it until I took the logs off like Joe said. After that, it was easy. Thank you!

    Thanks for posting this. I know it sounds simple but if you’ve never done it before it can be scary.

      Nothing to be ashamed of. Im a 32 year old son of a Marine Corps Contractor and Mercedes Benz tech and even I refresh myself with this stuff. For safety. One wrong action could cost you and others their lives.

    Easy to follow the instructions. This is just like mine which is an older set which does not have the ignitor button. Thank you for the close up of where to light it. And to hold down the pilot. Mine went out the first time and I held it a few seconds longer.

    Thank you so much for this video. I recently moved into a new house that had this exact same system, but couldn't find any other videos or knew if anyone else who could help me figure this out. The house is big, with large open spaces and it is getting very cold here. I've only had wood stoves and wood burning fireplaces so gas is all new to me.

My gas knob is on the left side, but it’s about half way inside, so it’s not safe. I want it where the knob is out like yours. Pls help. Thanks. 👍🙏

    Do I need to have the flue open when I have the gas fireplace on?

    • @flight505
      @flight505 3 роки тому +1

      +t is mentioned in this video that the flue needs to be open 24/7 with glass doors for keeping your heat in. I am just learning also. Something you may want to look into.

      Depends on your laws in your area, your burner system and the fuel being used and at what btu. Don't kill yourself not venting a vented system.

    I have a similar set up but no Pilot igniter. It's just a gas line the goes directly to tray. Is this right? please help! 1st time gas place user and home owner.

    • @joehemmelgarn6860
      @joehemmelgarn6860 2 роки тому

      Yours sounds like the “Chuck and duck”. You turn on the gas and light the burner manually with a looong match or lighter. Hold it near where the gas connects to the burner pan for less whoosh. Be careful.

      Could be a dirty pilot or a bad part on the pilot. Usually dirty. Clean the pilot off with some steel wool or a scratch pad . You can also blow it out with a can of air. Needs to be off and cool for this obviously.

  • @K-Z1

    Should the damper stay open or closed though, when using gas only to heat up? 😯

    • @joehemmelgarn6860
      @joehemmelgarn6860 2 роки тому

      Damper should be open if you have a vented set. They produce Carbon Monoxide. 😵 . If you don’t know if your set is vented or not, look for sand or sand like stuff in the bottom or soot on the logs. If either are there, it needs to be vented.

    What If The Light Doesn't Stay On ?

    • @randyjohnson9154
      @randyjohnson9154 7 років тому +1

      Chanya Nya if the pilot light doesn't stay on the the thermocouple may be bad or too far from the flame. That is the copper wire attached to the pilot light bracket and the gas safety valve. Worst case the valve could be bad.

      If you have fake logs, and can't open the flue, then don't light the fire! Those logs emit fumes that apparently can be fatal if they are going into the house rather than up the chimney.
