I first got a hold of this album in about 2015 or so. It instantly filled a void. I already loved the reverb intro, but when the main melody kicked in, it felt like I had been waiting my entire life to hear music like this.
Each time feels like the first time .. amazing! Truly love it and has revisited many times since seeing year of no light at Damnation a few years back now. Best show that day were you guys. Thankyou.
Yeah, the whole Shoegaze + Post-Rock metal genre had a very good run during the early to mid 2010's. A lot of it was type-cast as Black-Metal, but I feel it wouldn't hurt to have its own genre (you know, because Metal doesn't have enough sub-genres already).
I have listened to anything like this before. It's so surreal and epic. Almost like modern classical music. It sends my imagination absolutely wild. It made me feel like I was witnessing a great tragedy, a huge city was being attacked by something, it wasn't evil it was just and unfeeling, it had come from the soul of the Earth and it had come to pretty much destroy the city because of it's greed. The people fought it and gave a good fight but all but a few died. At the end of the song it had gone and the people left and settled somewhere else, they seemed happy just to be alive.
Persephone was the daughter of Demeter, the goddess of fecundity and agriculture and crops, who was kidnapped to the underworld by Hades, rendering great famine across the land in Demeter's anguish, for she abandoned her shrines and her worshippers to pursue her lost child. It wasn't evil, but just and unfeeling, it caused great destruction, and all but a few would die. I would say it is not uncharacteristic to tie the tone and title of the music to such potent symbolism.
Its as if I experienced Perséphone 's journey through the Underworld, starting with her humble life, until she was taken. Then seeing the dread of the underworld, while at the same time seeing the beauty in it all. Until the eventual climax, truly a mesmerizing experience.
I... I finally found myself back here. Who would've known? But I remember now: this is where my journey into post/atmospheric BM started. Oh, by the gods, I'm glad to have found this again.
I've been listening to this periodically for the last 5 years and it is a true masterpiece. It truly never gets old and everytime I listen to it I find something new or feel something new. One time I was feeling in a mood, like the mood of this piece, and I took a bunch of ketamine, laid down on my floor, put my headphones on, and started to ascend into the astrals with this song. The way the sounds just carry and build and build is just incredible. Don't do drugs kids, or if you're going to do them, be safe about it. Peace.

I mean, this is that epic stuff you would wanna be able to say you have heard at least once in your life before you die. Now, I can say that I have.
I feel the poison in this body of mine bleeding through my pores. the pain of loneliness, suffering, and sorrow. My eyes washed clean from my past, my heart renewed within the fatherly comfort of the sounds that surround me, like a shell, protecting and comforting.
I have listened to so many albums since ive heard this, yet it sticks out to me as one of the greatest atmospheric metal songs ever made. They blended so many different styles in such a complimentary way, not to mention the endurance to be able to pull this off live. Truly never gets old. What an absolute masterpiece.
