  • Plant-based food for her young family’s good health: that’s why Phố Phạm scrapped the lawn for a backyard food forest. She lined the fence with seasonal vegetables-including 200 peppers-and potted up 300 fruit trees. Peaches, pears, plums, figs, guavas, and citrus head to the kitchen for right-now eating, along with preserves and spicy sauces. From a hydro grow tent, they harvest fresh mushrooms.

Not only her garden is admirable, Pho is one of the sweetest and kindest soul I’ve met. I moved to Austin during the pandemic with my boyfriend and we became friends through a facebook gardening group. She always gives us fruits and vegetables from her garden, cook us meals since we were new to the state. Beside everything going on at home, she’s super active in the Vietnamese community, bringing everyone together through the love of gardening. We no longer living in Texas, but we miss her very much and grateful for making our pandemic year much less lonely.

She gave me a tree and didn't even know me. She is a wonderfully kind person. Keep up the good work.

Any idea where Pho is getting all of these trees from? I'm in Central Texas and want to get some container fruit trees going.

I absolutely love this lady. She seems to have such a good soul and gives me such great vibes.
Off the bat I knew she was a hard worker and I love how she mentioned she works full time too! I laughed out loud because I feel her exactly!

Wow! What an inspiration. If I can grow about 25% of what Pho is growing, I’d be so excited. You can tell she’s very efficient.
I really appreciated her tip on how she cared for her potted trees. I might be inspired enough to grab a couple.

She has no squirrels problems!! good for her! I had a whole tree of figs and persimmons last year. I didn't get even one to eat- the squirrels came to eat 3 per day and left part of each one on the ground before the fruits ripen. I took down a loquat tree full of fruits every year. Finally, I decided not going to feed tree rats anymore.

Nothing short of amazing! We live in the hill country of Leander, with very rocky soil and harsh summers, and we live on an acre of sloped yard, and though we have planted a few variety of fruit trees over the last eight years, we’ve had no fruit. Other gardening in pots, is hit or miss. Your garden is lovely.

Wow Pho, this is impressive, and you have to be a little crazy to keep up with this amount of work. Please take that as a complement. I bet she makes the best food too! I also wish you were my neighbor!

The only thing I find off-putting is that she paved her yard completely, but she's growing some interesting stuff.
