I'd like to know more about Aster myself. I just built dual-user gaming rig to use with Unraid and found the experience sub-par. It also doesn't seem to work at all. I'd rather have some way to boot a PC directly into Windows, but I only have the one right now with 2 GPUs in it. It seems like, with Sandboxie and Aster, you can have even better performance than running 2 OSes side-by-side, but then, a single OS is pretty wonky. What exactly were you able to share? When you talked about the GPU, if you're running 3 "places" and have 3 GPUs, can you assign a GPU per place? I saw that you can assign CPU cores, what about RAM? I'm assuming RAM is system-wide. I'm wondering how Aster compares to Betwin, a similar application, Unraid, and enterprise solutions like VMware Workstation. I really wanna get this working at my home, but I think I'd rather have dedicated Windows installs to avoid the issues you had with Aster.
I haven't tried Betwin but taking a look at the website, it seems that it hasn't be updated for a while, with XP being the latest OS listed, I can give it a shot in 10, but I like to stay away from software that isn't being updated. Memory is managed by the os, with no way in Aster to manage it. You can probably script limits per user, or send a message to a user when too much ram is used, but I didn't really have a issue with this in my tests. I normally like to leave the CPU + RAM shared as most users aren't maxing out the system, and its nice to have extra resources if needed for a short burst. You can't assign a gpu per user, but for all the onscreen rendering I tried, like games and other programs it used the gpu that was connected to the monitor. So if you have one user using monitors connected to GPU A and one users monitors connected to GPU B, you basically have user 1 using GPU A and user 2 using GPU B.
@@ElectronicsWizardry The biggest issue of getting games running in Aster was actually CPU-allocation. So I've set it up to share both memory and 100% of the CPU. If you divvy up CPU cores, it actually breaks certain games like Baldur's Gate 3. The only divisions now are the graphics cards. Even CPU-heavy games worked fine in this configuration. The only time I had to lower graphics settings was when the lower-end card required it, not because the CPU was pegged (as far as I tried). I thought Aster required 1 GPU per user. Am I wrong? It complained when I tried to divvy up monitors to difference places for a single GPU when I tried it. I also found something quirky when using Sandboxie. You sometimes need to first download and install the game without Sandboxie, then you can open and run the game in Sandboxie just fine.
Aster worked fine with one gpu with multiple users when I tested it. The only limit I saw was each user can only have monitors from one gpu. So gpu a and gpu b can’t both be driving user b session. What error did you get when trying to assign multiple users to one gpu.
@@ElectronicsWizardry You are corrected. I tested one GPU. It does error when I assign the display, but if I click "Apply" and restart, it works fine. This is the error: >>> You have tried to create workplace display configuration which is not supported by ASTER: A workplace with several monitors cannot share any of its graphics cards with another workplace. I'm still trying to figure out how to dedicate certain NICs to different accounts. It has a built-in way to assign IP addresses to different profiles. That fixes it, but I don't want to assign static IPs, I'd rather choose the DHCP IP off the NIC. Either way, that's a neat way to divvy up traffic.

How were you able to connect 3 players on tf2? It never lets me even play on lan or community servers when there's 2 or more people. Is it because they have the same IP?

This is going through Google translate so there may be some translation errors. The biggest limitation I see with those specs is the 6500xt. That isn’t a very fast gpu and would likely struggle with 3 AAA games at the same time but may work at minimum settings or older games. Anti cheat software might also cause issues. I’d guess it may be possible but you would be pushing the limit of the hardware and likely needs more tweaking.
I think the 2 virtual workstations will share the same IP on the network. There are some programs on windows that I think can create an additional IP and time some programs to one IP and some programs to the other IP, but I don't have experience using those programs.

well done mate. much better than most of the junk tech reviews! only question i had was whether it would work with a USB Xbox One 360 adapter. It is actually detected as a single Network Device. So reading between the lines i assume this wouldnt work with multiple controllers in aster. As multiple controllers are all missing in device manager.. though they are detected as multiple controllers in "Game Controllers" config in windows so if Aster is aware of this it might..
actually this video answered a lot my question.. i have plan build mini pc using asrock jupiter, and my question remain is how aster perform when only using iGPU~
I’d expect ugly performance to be similar to a low end gpu. So it would be fine for basic tasks like web browsing and office work but I wouldn’t use it for games.
Hi. I have been using aster to play WoW with my daughter. I plug in a second monitor into my laptops HDMI port for her to play. It's been working amazingly for like 3 years now. Now my younger son wants to join us. My problem is that my laptop only has one HDMI port. Does anybody know how I can connect a 3rd monitor and make it work with aster? I was wondering if a HDMI hub would work. Possibly one with usb ports on it as well since i will require a 3rd keyboard and mouse for my son.
A hdmi hub won’t work as they just display the same output on all displays. The only way I know to get anouther display from usb is a display link adapter as they work like another gpu but they normally won’t work with games. I think you may be out of luck here with this laptop unfortunately.
@@ElectronicsWizardry so I've owned this laptop for nearly 2 years now. Until now i barely realized that it has 2 display port out connections right next to the HDMI port xD damn I'm so blind! It does have a GTX 1070 so I'm hoping it does support triple display option using these 2 display ports. What about for connecting the extra mouse and keyboard? How did you manage to get a 3rd pair working? My laptop only has 4 USB ports. Would a USB hub allow me to control the 3 workstations individually?
A usb hub will allow more keyboard and mice. The DisplayPort should allow a third monitor at the same time, but laptops can get prickly about lots of monitors as it’s likely using Optimus.
@@ElectronicsWizardry alright cool. Well I'm gonna order the display port to HDMI cable to hook up to a 3rd tv. Il let you know what's up after a while of using this 3rd workstation
@Rohan Kumar yes. So silly me never realized that my laptop not only has one HDMI port but it also has one VGA port and 2 mini display ports xD. Those display ports are so tiny that i never noticed them. So yes aster does in fact run very well using one HDMI port and one display port. I hooked up a 4 port USB hub and now all 3 of us get to play WoW together. My son is on my left playing on a 32" tv I'm in the middle playing on my laptop display and my daughter is on my right playing on another 32" monitor. I've only had a issue once where i got a error message saying that my laptop ran out of memory. I'm not sure what may have caused this to happen that one time but other than that WoW runs very well even if we all have the settings in WoW set to ultra. Average frame rate we all get is around 80ish. Pretty impressive considering it's doing all this off of one GTX 1070.
Thinking of using Aster and then giving my brother remote desktop access to one user instance so he has full access to the GPU for Blender. This isn't really possible on a virtual machine (unless Linux)
Yup you can run 2 copies of a game at the same time. Some games are picky so you need things like sandboxie. You probably need any to give it a try with your exact a game and setup.
I haven't tested any video editing programs on aster yet. I believe the program will work, but I worry about adobe CC and other licensing programs having issues. Adobe says that they support using RDS(remote desktop services), and remote access program on windows server that allows multiple users on one system, so I see it likely that it will work with aster. You can probably use the system remotely with programs like parsec that transmit the screen across the network, but need a local monitor attached. If your planing to do mostly remote access, RDS or similar is a better solution, but often much more expensive and complex to setup.
Hey man, this is one of the most complete video of Aster i´ve seen, can you pls tell me how to download the same game in multiple hard drives? 🥺 Want to try same game but don´t know how to make diferent files
Should this game be installed on different drives for each user or session? I think you can map each user to use a different path for game storage but I’m not sure exactly what your trying to do here.
What a great review man! so thorough! I've used this for 2 workspaces. It seems you didn't play with the separate IPs being able to be configured, i also tried a usb network card to give a 2nd nic for a 2nd steam user and that worked well for hot-seat gaming with a friend with their own steam account and game. I'd love to hear if you can find out if there are any bluetooth sharing options (think 2 users with 2 bluetooth headsets) and also how your experience is to have 2 users with microphones. Imagine 2-4 users sharing a PC with 4 webcams and 4 headsets (bluetooth or USB) * I think the headsets would probably need dedicated USB sound cards or dedicated USB bluetooth transmitters. any comments on USB hubs?
I used sandboxie so that different steam installs didn't know another instance was running on the same system. Otherwise you can only have one copy of steam running at a time on a system.
hi bro please help So this is it I want to build a gaming computer at home using an assembled PC that I want to design, I want to use this Aster v7 software for the needs of playing 1080p games with my 1 pc setting connected to 4 monitors by connecting 4 keyboards and mice, 4 headphones, 4 speakers , and 8 gamepad sticks . whether it can run on this aster v7. For additional information, I will give details of the idea for a gaming PC that I want to use later Ryzen 5 5600x Mobo B500-M VGA RX 6500 XT Ram 16gb 2 channel 8x2 (3200mhz) 1 tb ssd hdd 1 tb Psu 650w If there is anything that can be changed to run smoothly, the setup using the Aster V7 method can be given input to me, thank you
I'm guessing that 6500xt will likely provide a sub optimal performance for 4 games at once. In reviews of newer games the 6500xt seems to get about 60fps at medium, so if each of the 4 instances would run at about 15fps, below what I would like to play at. It may be better at low details though. I would also worry about vram limitations, as the 4gb of vram will be split amount the 4 games, so about 1gb per game. I think many games would struggle with only 1gB of vram. I think the 5600x would also struggle with 4 instances of moderns games as that leaves less than 2 cores for each instance of the game. I'd guess this config would be possible with older or less demanding games, but may require a good amount of tweaking to get playable performance. I would try to get higher performance components if possible.
This is one of the most thorough, learned and intuitive reviews I have ever seen. Thankyou for uploading!

So reading between the lines i assume this wouldnt work with multiple controllers in aster. As multiple controllers are all missing in device manager.. though they are detected as multiple controllers in "Game Controllers" config in windows so if Aster is aware of this it might..
you can dedicate every controller to certain user,no problems with that.
actually this video answered a lot my question..
i have plan build mini pc using asrock jupiter, and my question remain is how aster perform when only using iGPU~
I’d expect ugly performance to be similar to a low end gpu. So it would be fine for basic tasks like web browsing and office work but I wouldn’t use it for games.
@@ElectronicsWizardry what about iGPU from ryzen?
I expecting i need more vram, but that is ok for me~
Could you link Aster in the description?
It's made by IBIK
Great Review.
so can u run 1 game at the same time? like 2 accounts
Yup you can run 2 copies of a game at the same time. Some games are picky so you need things like sandboxie. You probably need any to give it a try with your exact a game and setup.
@@ElectronicsWizardry thnks, any idea if can run 2 ow2 at the same time, imma check it if i can
@@redq5758 What's 'ow2'?
Informative! Can Aster be used for regular work related stuff as opposed to gaming?
Yea most work related tools should work fine. I haven’t tested many work programs but I believe programs like ms office will work well.
@@ElectronicsWizardry what about video editing and 3D? And can this be used remotely or do u have to be in the same network?
I haven't tested any video editing programs on aster yet. I believe the program will work, but I worry about adobe CC and other licensing programs having issues. Adobe says that they support using RDS(remote desktop services), and remote access program on windows server that allows multiple users on one system, so I see it likely that it will work with aster.
You can probably use the system remotely with programs like parsec that transmit the screen across the network, but need a local monitor attached. If your planing to do mostly remote access, RDS or similar is a better solution, but often much more expensive and complex to setup.
@@ElectronicsWizardry tks for the valuable information.
Very informative!! New sub earned 👍
Hey man, this is one of the most complete video of Aster i´ve seen, can you pls tell me how to download the same game in multiple hard drives? 🥺
Want to try same game but don´t know how to make diferent files
Should this game be installed on different drives for each user or session? I think you can map each user to use a different path for game storage but I’m not sure exactly what your trying to do here.
What a great review man! so thorough! I've used this for 2 workspaces.
It seems you didn't play with the separate IPs being able to be configured, i also tried a usb network card to give a 2nd nic for a 2nd steam user and that worked well for hot-seat gaming with a friend with their own steam account and game.
I'd love to hear if you can find out if there are any bluetooth sharing options (think 2 users with 2 bluetooth headsets)
and also how your experience is to have 2 users with microphones. Imagine 2-4 users sharing a PC with 4 webcams and 4 headsets (bluetooth or USB)
* I think the headsets would probably need dedicated USB sound cards or dedicated USB bluetooth transmitters.
any comments on USB hubs?
@Emiliano Arce yes exactly
@Emiliano Arce there could be a limit on your public IP, I only tried playing games that supported local lan hotseat gaming. So I'm not sure
Did you really had no issue with multiple steam installs ?
I used sandboxie so that different steam installs didn't know another instance was running on the same system. Otherwise you can only have one copy of steam running at a time on a system.
@@ElectronicsWizardry thank you
I heard Steam does NOT work on more then 1 of these? This was the main point, if you are a gamer, you def need steam
hi bro please help So this is it I want to build a gaming computer at home using an assembled PC that I want to design, I want to use this Aster v7 software for the needs of playing 1080p games with my 1 pc setting connected to 4 monitors by connecting 4 keyboards and mice, 4 headphones, 4 speakers , and 8 gamepad sticks . whether it can run on this aster v7.
Nvidia doesn't play well with other graphics cards using aster try using dual cards of the same manufacturer
