Serious question, Ryan... were you ever trained as an instructor or teacher? Your delivery style is perfect... it's ordered, intuitive, logical and easy to follow. You are easily one of the very best UA-camr tutors.

Not sure if you did mention it, but when the video is placed, the video play length may need to be lengthened on the track, otherwise it will loop before the end of the video. Bottom right corner, where it says En, type in a suitable length for the video so it will play back the full length. Exscuse me if you already mentioned this.

Saving this link for later, I’m definitely going to give this series a watch. I’ve been looking into getting back into video editing and possibly learning compositing, and since I switched fully over the Linux, I’ve been feeling the itch. The problem is that I don’t trust Premiere/AE/Nuke to work correctly given that they aren’t supported natively, and aren’t FOSS. So I’m glad someone made a good looking series detailing the Blender video editor, because Blender is competently made software, and I already use it occasionally. I’m not sure how well video compositing is supported on Blender, which is really my biggest hangup on whether I should use it for video or not.

If I were on the blender dev team I would give achievements in the program. Each achievement you could click on and it would give a tutorial on how to do it and as you progress each achievement will presume you've mastered the previous achievement. A good start would be "Render a cube."

Excellent video! Very well organized, clear & concise explanations! Lots of detail without being overwhelming. BIG thanks!
A few little suggestions for future videos:
    1) Say "click here" less. The viewer often has to "hunt" for the mouse to find out to what you're referring. "Click in the top right", "Click on the menu option", etc. The big red arrow you added in for a few items was great, but probably not necessary in most cases.
    2) Give us a moment to process what you've said. (Click THEN do rather than Click AND do.) You're actually pretty good in this regard. I've seen MUCH worse!
    3) Modify the mouse: increase the size, add trails, or some such thing to make it easier to follow
    4) A side text window listing key strokes. ("Blender Guru" does this in his tutorials.) Quite nice.
    5) Controls summary. Much like the index (which is FANTASTIC, btw!) but with a list of keys/clicks/menu/shortcuts covered.
    6) Much like the "Big Red Arrow", some text captions to identify areas of the workspace would be nice (or use a colour frame to highlight the one being discussed).
I'll be back to watch part 2 (etc.) soon!

I tried using Blender software as a video editor. However, since my video editing involves splicing more than 20 anime episodes into one 15-minute video, the software kept crashing. As a result, I ended up using Sony Vegas Pro for video editing. Nevertheless, I will continue to use Blender for 3D asset rendering. I love Blender as 3D software, but for video editing, it can be quite painful to use.

I am just starting out with Blender's VSE and followed your tutorial which is fantastic - thank you. I have an issue with audio though - is there anything to be particularly aware of when importing mp3 files? My file is simple - two mp3 clips with video and it won't render one of the mp3s even though they play in the sequencer. Just wondering if you ever had something similar - if not, ignore the question as you can't possibly answer without the file and it would be unfair to expect you to do so!

In editor type 'Video Sequencer', with view type 'Sequencer', instead of the nice clean black background your video shows you to be getting, I am getting an area filled with random digital garbage. While it does not in any way seem to hamper my video editing, it is still annoying and I would like to fix it. I have uninstalled and reinstalled it (from the Debian repository - cli: 'apt purge ...' and 'apt install ...') and tried it with Gnome desktop, but to no avail. Do you have any suggestions?

I thought you may have gone on a break because none of your videos were coming up for a while like they usually do. It appears it is dodgy UA-cam again. We seriously need another platform.

Oh hmm that's odd. I guess UA-cam just wasn't recommending my videos to you. You could always subscribe to always see my new videos 😄

@@RyanKingArt I am subscribed, that is what makes it annoying. Not just your videos. There are others that have stopped showing up. I would say their "algorithm" is broken. Too much time spent spying and censoring people maybe?

Hmm that's odd. Well if you just check your subscriptions tab on UA-cam, it will show you all of the recent videos posted from the channel that your subscribed to. Also you can turn on notifications on certain channels so your updated when I make a new post. Anyway, thanks for your support! @@anth5189
