Simone biles is a powerhouse but those of us who were old enough know we’ve seen greatness before but it wasn’t recognized like today. I wanted to do gymnastics as a child because of Dominque . I was so fascinated as a little girl looking at her on tv flipping in my living room. Pissing my mother tf off standing on the arm of the sofa like it was a beam 😂
Love this and I love Dominique Dawes. I hope they bring this back some day. Perhaps add new rules like having to change from back to front tumbling. That would be interesting.
back to back tumbling is currently banned in the Code of Points which is why it is not done anymore. They banned it because it leads to a lot of Achilles injuries and disrupts the flow of the routine, so its unlikely that it will ever be unbanned.
@@ashley011495It may lead to Achilles’ tendon issues but if the FIG (or whomever it is that comes up with the rules for Code of Points) thinks it disrupts the flow of a routine, they don’t have eyes, because there was no disruption at all in Dominique’s routine and those of most other elite level gymnasts who had back-to-back tumbling passes. Remember, they’re the ones who are penalizing creativity and originality in today’s gymnastics, which is why most uneven bar routines all look the same, and why flailing the arms around during beam routines now counts as “dance” 😂
Awesome Dawesome! I remember her as part of the 1996 Olympic gymnastics team, the Magnificent Seven! Those back to back tumbling passes are what makes her a gymnastics legend.
I've been a fan of Dominique Daws for years. She has always been a favorite of mine because she always has great new skills to showcase. Keep up the good work!
Dominique Dawes and Gabby Douglas seems to get forgotten in the shadow of Simone Biles greatness but she is an incredible athlete in her own right. Dominique was only the second woman ever to go to three Olympics for Artistic Gymnastics. Even now only two other women have gone to three. The most recent of course being Simone Biles. Always loved watching her.
Now I understand what people mean when they say gymnastics used to be more graceful. It has truly changed to doing and landing the most complex flips for points
Like I said on another of your posts, seeing this as a 10 year old was insanity to me. 🤯I remember this first clip on television and they were just like watch this kid here! And boy they were right. 3 time Olympian and Magnificent Seven legend. What a time to be alive!
Bc the code of points has lowered the value of so many of the great skills that were done so gymnasts don't want to waste the energy on something that isn't worth the point value or they flat out banned them sighting safety issues
@@gothgirl4evr881 Pretty sure that's "citing" safety issues. But it's a pity that this kind of double-pass isn't done so often these days. I love this!
@@Radiatoron88 yeah safety issues also played a part in many of the older skills not being done anymore. While I get safety needing to be considered, it should be left up to the individual gymnast and their coaches to know the risks and what their skill level and limitations are. Every sport has a risk of injury and most athletes knows those risks going in. In my opinion the passes that Simone does are just as dangerous if not even more dangerous than many of the skills that the USAG have ranked so low or banned all together. I was a gymnast when I was younger and have always loved the sport but the changes that have been in the last 15-20 years has taken so much of beauty of the sport. There's little to no room for individuality anymore in routines. The gymnasts all do the same handful of skills, and have traded the grace and flexibility for strength and power. Even the build of a gymnast has changed not many have the build of a dancer they are just solid muscle now. I'm not sure that the gymnasts today could even do some of those skills that required extreme flexibility, especially in the spine. Don't get me wrong I'm not saying that the skills that they do now aren't gravity defyingly insane to watch, but I just miss the gymnastics of the 90s.
@@gothgirl4evr881 I agree! I personally prefer more balletic and artistic gymnastics to the power acrobatics orientation of today. I still prefer to see simpler moves done with amplitude and grace rather than big tricks that have all the grace and elegance of a cannonball.
We'll never see a routine like this with today's gymnasts. What DD did in her day with the floor exercise was monumental, spectacular & enjoyable. I would think others will agree?
I got dizzy ftom trying to keep up on my screen...my goodness she is good. I wouod have been 3-6 yrs old during Dominique's reign. Too young to remember or be interested in gymnastics. Luckily youtube brings her back in my 30's to enjoy her timeless art.

I was obsessed with her. I called her Ms springs in her feet 👣 ❤The Magnificent 7 were my babies and you could tell me nothing about them. The 2 Dominique’s had my whole heart ❤️
One of the BEST ever!👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 TOTALLY ROBBED in her career---was such a shame (or should I say "sham"?). She was absolutely AMAZING & deserved so much more than she got. THAT story continues on---SADLY. 😑😑😑
Her beam routine was one of the most technically difficult routines I had ever seen, and till this day she seldom gets recognized for it. It blows my mind how underappreciated she is in this sport.
These were definitely the glory days of gymnastics. Not just for floor but for beam and uneven bars also. Each routine the women were able to show their creativity and individual style, unlike today where each routine consists of the same handful of tumbling passes and look the same.
Dominique was my Gabby Douglas/Simone Biles when I was a little girl. She made history too, even before she killed it at the olympics as one of the magnificent seven. I wanted to be her as a little girl. She was amazing! 😍👏🏾👏🏾👌🏾
..WOW, the gymnast's then were more sleek, graceful, slender, less muscular as of today's gymnast's yet still had the power in all of these flips... she was so quick the cameras couldn't track her fast enough!...watching in the 70's and 80's it was an amazing time...

With the ever changing of rules and what they consider a technical routine now, it was completely different before. It’s too controversial now and I don’t know how they judge. To me she is the goat.
Simple -- she doesn't have the medals and results to be considered the goat. She was great and went to three Olympics, but she never won anything at Worlds or Olympics as an individual. Biles won the All Around in 13 14 15 16 18 19 23 and 24 (and the floor title all those years except one).
I really stopped paying attention to gymnastics after she left. Everyone was cohesive and unique in their own way. None of their interactions with each other seemed fake. My favorite gymnast right here.
Crazy how slender these athletes were compared to now (yes I’m implying some suspicious usage of things to help these present women get so jacked and strong)
