Why the re-upload? When I posted this video (the first variation) yesterday night, some people pointed out that the terminology I used can bee seen as misleading or inaccurate. After taking your feedback into consideration, I took the video down and made a few changes and adjustments, in order to more accurately describe and represent the substance. Thus the re-upload! With that said, I just want to say that it was never my intention to to mislead anyone. As a video that was intended for entertainment purposes, I wanted to make it appealing to a wider audience. Ultimately, I found that the presented substance did need a more accurate presentation. Thanks for all your input, even the ones that made me cry ;)

I would definitely *not* recommend hiding your _"private"_ files using the trick from 4:12, because of two reasons: 1. If you enable seeing the hidden files in windows explorer, everybody still gets easy access to the content of the folder 2. The .bat file can easily be opened in notepad and in the code you can view the password So, if you really want to hide your _"private"_ files, I would recommend putting them in an archive, which can be encrypted. That is much more secure than the trick shown in the video. Still, this video had some pretty neat tricks. :)
If you know what switches to flip, you can. Also changing the extension to .txt and looking at the contents to find the password means this method is useless
Either or, actually broke through an entire "secure system" that some friends made on my schools network drives. They just had various levels of those shoddy batch scripts with different passwords, was easy as hell to get through and see what was in there (not much)
I've done that fake error message thing when I was in 7th grade and I shared it my friend and we created a shortcut of it and then change the icon of shortcut to "my computer icon " and we fooled a lot of students and even teacher there as we created a long error showing your pc is hacked and it never stopped and we needed to shutdown pc . But ....my teacher came to know and our every file was deleted . We kept our original file hidden . It's been 4years and almost forgot that coding .Thanks for adding that .
As a software developer (mainly in JavaScript, but also know C# and Java) I understand the VBScript syntax For example, the script in 2:09 is so short because I infer that the "x", like in Python, is a variable msgbox(...) is a function that creates the message box The stuff inside the "()" are the arguments that you pass to it. Though, I still don't know how the NUM+NUM syntax works (e.g. 0+16) So really, when is the function is called, the message box is immediately displayed, then the (I guess?) reference pointer is stored in "x" Then, after clicking OK, the program ends, therefore the data of "x" that was saved in the memory - is being dumped, i.e. the program's memory is lost and freed back to the system

If you would like to make the file folder lock more secure you can download a bat to exe converter and your script can then be encrypted. Significantly Malik hit harder to access.

The private folder thing was good but it seems that if one selects preview and taps the private folder script one would see the password of the folder and be able to access it just fine.
All it does is apply the Hidden Attribute to the folder. It can be worked around by enabling Hidden Items. However for people who don't know about this it is a good choice

Yes. Most especially free malware scanners only use md5 scans. Thats why updating your anti-virus database is VERY important everytime it recommends it. Only few good anti-malware programs and usually paid ones actually use Behavioural based detection

I like to use DOS batch files as a container for open source projects to put all instructions of a routine inside the batch file to create a new executable file from the routine.
256mb of RAM can hardly run windows xp on a laptop with a pretty decent ssd, but once I start Command and Conquer: Red Alert 2, everything starts running like butter. BUTTER. Fun!

Putting a msgbox in a variable won't change it. It functions the same until you store an inputbox in a variable or string. MsgBox("Text") is same as Any=MsgBox("Text")
Everyone should be aware, that the private folder isn't really secure. A very basic user would have trouble finding it, but with a little bit of batch/cmd understanding you can easily open the folder without knowing the password. In case anyone wants to hide his files from you: 1. Press Win + R and type "cmd" . 2. Type "cd ". and then the path of your folder (e. g. "C:\Users\Max\Desktop). It's the same path as the locker script. 3. Type "attrib -s -h "Control Panel.{21EC2020-3AEA-1069-A2DD-08002B30309D}" and the folder should appear. The second and maybe even easier way is to open the unlocker script and read the password from it. As I said: Anyone understanding batch can easily unlock the folder. But I suppose this video is still just fun and if it's just your grandmother you want to hide your files from, don't worry - your files will be save. :)

If the password is hard-coded into the exe, you can open the exe in notepad++ and read it.
90% of Batch-to-exe converters are blanks. you can just crack them open and see the entire source code. Totally uncompiled.

I was writing a fork bomb with some of these tricks, and Windows Defender found them as existing viruses, and both were the same.

Everyone should be aware, that the private folder isn't really secure. A very basic user would have trouble finding it, but with a little bit of batch/cmd understanding you can easily open the folder without knowing the password. In case anyone wants to hide his files from you:
1. Press Win + R and type "cmd" .
2. Type "cd ". and then the path of your folder (e. g. "C:\Users\Max\Desktop). It's the same path as the locker script.
3. Type "attrib -s -h "Control Panel.{21EC2020-3AEA-1069-A2DD-08002B30309D}" and the folder should appear.
The second and maybe even easier way is to open the unlocker script and read the password from it. As I said: Anyone understanding batch can easily unlock the folder. But I suppose this video is still just fun and if it's just your grandmother you want to hide your files from, don't worry - your files will be save. :)

You don't need to set file type to all, it saves with whatever extension you use

For #1 it only applies to CAPS LOCK because I don't have lights for NUM LOCK or SCROLL LOCK.
