I REALLY liked the series... but yeah, I had to take it for what it was. I think it's a really good anime, specially when it comes to the characters (except the main villain) and action, just not a good adaptation since it has pretty much nothing to do with the games, and it seems more like an alternate continuity. Still, on the other hand I'm glad they didn't just make a one to one adaptation of one of the games, I will always take a new story over a retelling of a story I already experienced. I really hope we get full remakes of the games someday, specially 3 (The intro cinematic of that game still holds up today in my opinion). Or even a sequel, if they do it right.
It probably doesn't help that I natrually find myself hyper-focusing on the story aspect, but the Netflix series really disappointed me, and that hurts to say. I'm definitely not of the mindset that they should have just rehashed one of the game's stories and that would be better, but there are so many things that the show could have drawn from to build on the intrigue of the Onimusha world, like multiple familiar Genma variants. They could have just used Warlords since that's the most recent release with the HD port in 2018 and we still could have had a good amount of variation with Genma like the Three-Eyes, Bazuu, Oowasha, Red Knight or Reynaldo. Instead, the only familiar Genma we got was the Zombie Warrior, the most basic Genma that appears in every title except Samurai's Destiny. I think what really ruined it for me, however, is the fact that the few things it DID lift from the games were changed to the point where they become almost unrecognisable. You already mentioned the issue with how the 12 Oni Gods were portrayed as apathetic to humanity and focused only on the absorbtion of Genma souls instead of the benevolent beings that they are known as in the games, but then there's the Genma. Instead of a seperate race of monstrous beings, they are relagated to just undead or slightly mutated humans. In fact, the show never really makes clear what the Genma really are. It's like the show expects the viewer to already have knowledge of the Genma's origins from the games, but also changes them so much that you NEED to be told what they are all over again. Definitely agree on the villain too (so glad I'm not the only one who calls him Lemon!). Dude was so generic and honestly uninteresting. In fact, the only villain I really liked was Kojiro, and to be honest, I'd actually label him more of an anti-hero than flatout villain. I know you mentioned the Yoshioka brothers, but can we also talk about how pointless the whole segment with the Yoshioka sisters really is? They literally pop in out of nowhere for about 2 minutes, then show up again for about 10 seconds where they are instakilled with no buildup or fanfare. They could have been cut out of the show entirely and literally nothing would have been lost. Even the storybit that followed their first appearence would have worked perfectly fine if it followed the end of the previous episode. It's like they were added for the sake of being added, but were given absolutely nothing to make them interesting or memorable Unfoprtunately, I find myself giving this show a 5/10 overall. The action and some of the character moments with the main protaganists were good, but everything else really bogs it down. I find this to be a perfect example of this being a potentially decent series if it were it's own IP, but not a good ONIMUSHA series.
I agree 100%. It was an OK show but to suggest it being a good entree into the Onimusha series? No and it’s best they leave it at this and not make another season
Checking in.
Appreciate you 🙏🏾

I got my nephew to play the series after watching the Netflix's series.
He hasn't played Fortnite for a week.
That's what I'm talking about! lol
