I don’t think silent protagonists have much of a place in modern CoD anymore. People like to reminisce as playing as ‘faceless grunts’ (despite them doing most of the work anyways), but obviously in real life even a random conscript is still a person. Recent Black Ops games going for voiceless protagonists is especially weird to me, since I’m pretty sure Mason was the first playable CoD character to talk in gameplay, and that worked really well. CoD4 has a great campaign but any relationship between Soap or Jackson and their comrades came purely from the player. And even when Soap did get a voice he still couldn’t use it when you played as him, which can make some moments less effective.
@@Bruce_Wayne841 AAA developers should be able to manage having dialogue options while also paying a voice actor. And in the case of Case, he’s also meant to be a set character you can’t customize, him being silent means he gets camera shy anytime a cutscene plays and also doesn’t react to a lot of the crazy stuff that happens in Bo6.
I agree as well, which is why when I played Modern Warfare and got to the mission where Soap is talking to Ghost it made me happy that they were actually making them characters. As for your Black Ops take I agree, I think Mason is a great character (that I can remember) and think he's way better then the OG trilogy based on the fact that he can talk. The original trilogy will always have a place in my heart because I grew up with it but making this video make me realize the OG trilogy didn't really have any lasting characters that stood out to me.
This was a great video. Looking forwards to the rest :3, although good luck with the reboot story of MW3.

I half agree I think silent protagonist can work if you have multiple choice dialogue like with bell or Case
