Happy Thanksgiving to all who are celebrating today :-) Hope you enjoy the video, if you have any questions please leave a comment below. Also I made a mistake on the voice over, you need to add 3/8" to your overall strap width for the main collar. E.G. 1" final collar size needs to be 1 3/8" strip for main collar and 5/8" your filler strip Also I am running a Black Friday sale over on my website www.jhleather.co.uk use the code BLACKFRIDAY2018 for 10% off all my handmade items until Tuesday 27th November
Hi Jo, always enjoy your > 😊. The professional Maker community has been SO AWESOME at helping us to see “behind the curtain” in generously sharing your knowledge and experience with us. I can’t wait to “swing into full production”! Yay! If you don’t mind me sharing a bit of Sound Studio “nerdy” observation on the sound of your narrative. I hear what are called “P Pops”, also called: “Plosives”. Not a big distraction, but please check into it. It usually comes from having your mouth a little too close to the mic. Hope that helps.... Thanks again! G 👍🏼
Hi Gordon, good to see you are diving through the back catalogue of videos. This was recorded a while ago with an old microphone and on a different video editing software hence the lower quality of sound.
Glad to hear you like the video 🙂 my workshop is pretty much what you see, one main workbench with the splitter on and then a smaller one with the crease heater and staining station.
Love this. Couple of questions. I WANT a leather splitter, just can AFFORD one at present. Any sort of alternative method you could recommend? Secondly, can you stamp, say the dog's name into the raised portion or would that just crush the raised bit and unmake the raised portion?
Hello, unfortunately there isn't really an alternative to a splitting machine I'm afraid. I'd keep and eye out for some second hand ones as you may be able to get a good deal there. With the raised part as I used leather as the filler you should be able emboss into it without an issue. Jo
Glad to hear you like the video 🙂 it's a Joseph Dixon splitter, unfortunately the company doesn't exist anymore but you may be able to get an old one off ebay.
As always, excellent instructions and product! Can you tell me about that head knife you have there, please? I want one just like it. Terry Knipshield makes one like that, but lots of $$$.
This one I had custom made but you can get a single head knife from George Barnsley and sons which are very good. I use them on my courses and they are very good.
That collar is nicer than any belt I have ever had......lucky dog.
The amount of skill she has cannot be understated here. Her knife work and awl work show a lot of training and experience. I am always impressed.
Thank you 🙂

Another great video, thanks
Would it be possible to have a look at your workshop layout?
Glad to hear you like the video 🙂 my workshop is pretty much what you see, one main workbench with the splitter on and then a smaller one with the crease heater and staining station.
Hi Jo! Question: If we wanted the raised area to be curved, how would we adapt this?

Hi. Do you also .have. dog leash video? Thank you
What kind of edge paint do you use?
Hi I was wondering where you get your padding leather from? I can’t seem to find where I can buy any?
Great tutorial. Thank you for your time....What type of splitter do you use? I have not seen one similar.
Glad to hear you like the video 🙂 it's a Joseph Dixon splitter, unfortunately the company doesn't exist anymore but you may be able to get an old one off ebay.
@@JHLeather Thank you. I will be searching.

Awesome
Thank you 🙂
Please tell me, what shape of the punch did you use?
Its a crew punch, I think they are also sold as oblong punches.
What kind of glue do you use?
I use bostik 6092 contact adhesive, it's brilliant.
"What's that noise?" he said. "The edge tool is hungry..." she replied. (Cue scary music)
What foam is it you use?
It's called plastazote but, you can use neoprene also.
A belt and a collar are pretty similar I guess, huh?
nice tutorial but i dont think most beginners who are needing this vid will have a splitting machine
Sonja Gaffer Not every tutorial on UA-cam is for beginners. In fact the title says “Advanced Dog Collar Tutorial”
