    The CP-1X is a smooth ride, baby. Helped along mainly by their new Multi-Dimensional Processing technology that, in a nutshell, takes a look at everything coming to it - from extreme bottom end to shrill top end - and makes everything even. Every note has a good time! There's little bloom (a good thing for me), tons of control, plenty of makeup gain, plenty of headroom (internal voltage doubling to 18V) and it's BOSS tough. You know how tough BOSS pedals are, right? I sure as hell do. This one's a ripper. If you're a compression freak, you need to try this at least once. And after you do, I'll bet you don't leave the store without it.
    Guitar: Fender/Roland G-5A Stratocaster with Smitty 60's Pickups (none of the Roland circuitry was used in this video).
    Amp: 2015 Achillies Vibrolux Reverb Replica with 2x10 Jensens
    Extra effects: Fractal Audio FX8 - "Pi Fuzz" and delay (when announced during vid).
    Cables: Free The Tone and Montreaux
    Power Supply: Voodoo Lab MONDO
    Mic: Shure SM57 (Vibrolux); Samson Airline77 (me)
    Camera: Canon 60D (me) and Nikon D5100 (pedal)
    Soundcard: AVID Mbox Pro 3
    Computer: Apple iMac 27" i7 3.4 GHz 16 GB RAM
    Software: Logic Pro X, Waves L3-16 Limiter (to keep levels in check at output), Apple Final Cut Pro X (video editing and UA-cam compression).

    Sold my Cali76 and using the CP-1X… awesome. Totally transparent and completely retains your tone. No noise.

    Boss finally developed a top shelf compressor. This is up there with the best on the market.

    Really amazing pedal. It limits the peaks in my picking without changing the tone or giving you hiss

    fantastic demo, very useful and realistic - many thanks. Edit - bought this on foot of your demo and it is superb. Perfectly quiet, smooth, very musical and just enhances my acoustic beautifully when finger picking and doing quieter stuff... brings the volume up in a really natural sounding way to keep pace with the strummy stuff.

    I'm a compressor addict. I've found Carl Martin compressors are best I've used so far (though I'd really like to try an Origin Effects comp), so I wonder if this new Boss compressor does that very transparent, high headroom thing that Carl Martin compressors do. I have a regular Boss compressor and it tends to smear the attack (no matter the attack setting) and filter out low frequencies, making the guitar sound rather thin, which can work in some situations, but is not ideal as an "always on" compressor.

    Question: Will a SLOW attack time (in order to preserve transients) sound close to a compressor that has a blend control to achieve the same purpose? I love the way this compressor sounds but it doesn't have the mix control which I think might be better for me. I play a lot clean and jazzy stuff.

    3:07 Attack. ... So turning it up (clockwise) increases the time before compression kicks in. That always confuses me.

    • @mattgilbert7347
      @mattgilbert7347 2 роки тому

      Same. I thought a fast attack meant the comp grabs the note quickly, slow attack it takes a moment to kick in.

    Based on some of the odd comments here.., it reminds me of many years ago (‘75)…I had been playing for about 6 years and I took an MXR Dyna Comp to a jam….I didn’t really like it, cuz I really didn’t “get it”….
    And no offense but it seems many newbies have not developed their listening skills to understand what exactly they are listening for…
    It seems that guitar compression can be a bit confusing to newer players…..Over the years, like many things, it gets easier to understand & hear what is going on.
    Just sayin..😊

    I don't know what I am missing hear. Many people love this pedal and I am not sure why. The changes to me are very subtle, especially when the dirty channels are played. Is it really worth the asking price?

    • @MTBSelfieStickGuy
      @MTBSelfieStickGuy 3 роки тому +2

      Very subtle on the drive. Better for sustain and as a boost for drive. But holy shit it makes the clean sound amazing

  • @gibsonplayer8

    Someone please help me. I purchased this pedal and I really don't see the results that everyone else claims to get. Even when listening to the different settings in the video. I really don't hear a significant improvement. Especially using it with your clean settings. I just don't notice a huge difference. True, it can be a boost to your gain, but why spend $150 just for a few extra decibels. Not sure it is really worth the money. I watched multiple videos and their has not been one out there that shows this is worth adding to your pedal board. What the heck am I doing wrong? Please comment if you will. Thanks

    "artificial intelligence" - nah. Just multiband compression.

    • @BerndThomasSchuller
      @BerndThomasSchuller 7 років тому +3

      "With MDP, only the overtones are compressed, preserving the fundamental" - that is exactly what multiband compression is: different compression parameters are employed for different parts of the frequency spectrum.
