- 2 week meal plan below ⬇️ Come shopping with us in NYC for our family of 13. We shop at Costco & Trader Joe's on Tuesday evening. (Our Costco is in Harlem and our Trader Joe's is on the Upper West Side in Manhattan.) We bring Anna (11), Chloe (9), Enoch (7), Melody (5), Moses (2), and Neta (5 months).
Here's our meal plan for the next two weeks:
Week one:
Wednesday: Pesto, Dinner: Tacos & Beans
Thursday: Charcuterie board, Dinner: Hamburger Stroganoff & Salad
Friday: Pizza Bread, Dinner: Jamie Oliver Chicken Curry
Saturday: Sandwiches, Watermelon, Juice, Chips, Dinner: Burritos
Sunday: Chicken Shish Kebabs & Rice, Dinner: Nachos
Monday: Tuna Sandwiches, Dinner: Lentil Soup & Baguette
Tuesday: Burritos, Dinner: Fettuccine Alfredo, Broccoli, Italian Salad
Week two:
Wednesday: Chilaquiles, Dinner: Sweet & Sour Chicken w/ Rice
Thursday: Ham & Cheese Pinwheels & Strawberries, Dinner: Goulash & Bread
Friday: Baked Potatoes w/ Bacon, Lettuce & Tomato, Dinner: Tuesday Chicken, Rice, Peas, Salad w/ homemade buttermilk dressing
Saturday: Sandwiches, Watermelon, Juice, Chips, Dinner: Burritos
Sunday: Spaghetti & Meatballs w/ salad & Bread, Dinner: Nachos
Monday: Tuna Melts, Dinner: Hamburgers, Homemade Fries
Tuesday: Burritos, Dinner: Costco Food (Rotisserie Chicken, Pizza & Salad)

I love how the kids in this family are so independent yet so helpful with each other. Nice to see Chloe doing so well. She's a "can-do" girl who can take charge, but she is so tender with her siblings. A beautiful family.
All of a sudden, it seems that Mo is speaking so well! It’s so fun to see the kiddos grow right before our eyes!

Amber, it would be wise to get a large metal rack to put downstairs for your stock up groceries. Also getting a freezer and large fridge for downstairs will really save you some money, you can then buy cases of the canned and dry goods you use most often. I don't have a large family but I've always shopped this way and it really helped a lot during the covid outbreak as the store were pretty empty, I had family members shopping my pantry. It may be lot of cost to start but each time you shop if you need 2 of something buy double and stock the pantry. You'll be very happy you did. Sending love ❤️

I was thinking the same thing. Even if you started with a metal bakers rack. Then add a frig freezer. You’d have extra space for both. I’d never get a chest freezer though. Things get lost in there. An upright freezer is worth the cost in my opinion. I also buy things like flour, beans, rice and oats in bulk. I freeze them for about five days to kill any bugs and then I put them in 5 gallon buckets with gamma lids.
@allymichael1609 me too do have an upright freezer in the house and 2 refrigerators and a huge chest freezer in the garage, I put same like things in hard bottom bags , ie chop meat, chicken, pork in their own bags so when I want something I just pull the bag and I can also keep inventory that way. I buy 50lbs of beef, chicken pork at a time each month a different meat or frozen vegetables. Same with dry goods and condiments, today I bought 12 different bbq sauces, and mayonnaise 6 of them. It really stocks up quickly.
It’s slightly presumptuous of you to assume they can afford another refrigerator and/or freezer, don’t you think?
@mrs.p6128 it's a process, I did not suggest it had to be done, NO ONE had that money to start! I certainly did not try to ASSUME that they would do this next week, if you really read the comment I said it would be wise to start this process, with 11 childten food goes quickly, it's WISE to have a stock now that they have more room. I also SUGGESTED to buy 1 now and 2 for later. That's how I started my stocked pantry. But that's for ASSUMING I'm an idiot!
A 2-week grocery haul is only possible because you are so well organized! We are also praying for Anna- that all details go smoothly, that she is able to sleep well, that she takes it in stride and enjoys it too. Very exciting times!!

Loving Neta’s cute summer dress! I think it’s great that they are teaching the kids how to actually shop in a grocery store. Chloe is learning so much from Marc.

Teens and young adults eat a lot. They are not only still growing, but so active they burn it all up. None of yours have even an extra ounce of weight on them. The treats the children picked tonight were yummy. Scones, the Brownies, Popcycles, Boardwalk Taffy, and gummies. Very grown up Choices. I love getting to be a part by watching. My dad loves peanut butter, bologna and pickle sandwiches. Being a vegetarian I just ate peanut butter and pickle and I agree it's a good combo.

You can refresh limo lettuce by putting into ice water. Especially romaine. Cut end off… submerge in ice water and let sit. I take out , once it’s rehydrated and let drain on a dish towel/ tea towel. I store celery in (wrap it in) aluminum foil. It does help. If it goes limp, do same thing- put in ice water and let drain/dry once it’s absorbed water and refreshed.
Im behind on videos. Do you plan to put a full size fridge/freezer downstairs? I was curious what you did with that area. I remmber saying you rented it… I think it would be great to get shelves and have canned goods and stick up in diapers wipes tp etc etc

Amber sometimes you gotta splurge ! You’re small enough you can do it every now and then.😮😊 it’s a good thing you have two refrigerators, which means two freezers. Actually, I think y’all have more than two refrigerators. I think I saw an extra refrigerator up against the wall going to your dining room table one time but I could be wrong?

Yes! We’ve made it before. I just find it spoils if we don’t use it within a couple days and usually our burrito days are spaced out. So I have to make it fresh each time. It’s so yummy though! Just takes more time.
What do you use the bar chocolate for? Just snacking?

Have you ever thought of buying a bread maker or using one? Bread works out to be around $.50 a loaf or less
I got a good one 25 years ago from Williams sonoma, still going… I use to make pizza dough, dough for cinnamon buns, all kinds of breads, various doughs thst it took out and then turned into finished products . So much cheaper! Makes the house smell so good! You can even take dough out and bake in oven, but more economical

I have six kids my budget has always been 550 a month right now got four at home all teachers two adult children and it’s still that much a month we learned two boneless chicken breast i can feed all my kids I learned to cut them very thin ten pounds hamburger lasted us almost three months I also look for discount food and buy that way
