the funny thing about the “shoplifting” factoid from 2022 is that recently it was revealed a ton of companies just straight-up lied about it for insurance fraud purposes and the whole thing only served to make customers’ experiences worse and retail workers’ lives more of a living hell. of course there are no consequences lmao.

12:20 nah Etsy has also been flooded with drop shippers using different profile names to sell the same "handmade jewelery" or "handmade crafts." In fact, it's getting harder for smaller artists to function on there because of that and people just stealing art and selling it as their own stickers, framed pictures, t-shirts, etc.

When things are cheap something bad is happening. Someone is getting exploited. PERIOD.
There is no logical way a bowl should be $1 new. There is no way a chickens life should be $5.
Things SHOULD be expensive. That is how it SHOULD work. People should be paid WAY more for stuff and it should be higher quality and most of us should own and consume less.
Our obsession with cheapness is what is destroying everything. No one wants to hear that though.

6:51 as a person who works retail and runs a fitting room: no they do not get washed. we take them from the fitting room when you're done trying them on and fold/hang them back and put them away where they belong. the only time we don't is if it somehow got too dirty (like if someone stepped on the item with an intense amout of dirt on their shoe, or. did something. to the item. *cough*), and we damage the item out to be sent back to the warehouse, where i'd assume they either wash the item if it's just dirty, or completely scrap it, like if it was returned and has a hole somewhere. it's nasty. i've had to start keeping lotion with me behind the counter in the fitting room because i've been using so much hand sanitizer that my hands are drying out. like, touching just one or two items of clothing leaves a dusty, almost sticky residue on my hands.
so this is a PSA to always wear underwear when you're going to be trying on clothes in a retail store and to always wash the clothes you buy as soon as you get home. that shit is nasty.

I usually I can go grab the thing I need and get out no problem, but when I'm with other people I feel obligated to hang around, and then they ask me for opinions and when I give an answer they'll ignore it for what they were thinking about, and then they'll be as slow as possible window shopping and debating buying more things as if they have the money to do so. this is a dark statement but roll with me:
if the dept. stores are so abandoned im surprised people dont "break bad" in them and run a business or multiple businesses as a front to hide their real operation. The dea and other such police agencies are able to find labs based on electricity usage but i doubt a fully loaded mall uses less, malls have creepy basements and ventilation systems anyway
it may require running multiple stores in a block but still, ( they can falsify the p.o.s for the sake of laundering money, have their customers appear to buy (insert retail goods) while discreetly buying illicit goods, hide in plain sight then use the capital to move to different malls and repeat the process and switch locations as needed.
if they use a certain percentage from the operation to build up the mall, town and payoff the necessary people all the while circulating money into the local economy. Plus done right they'd be able to mask the electrical usage as what's required to run the mall and its various machinery and such. Plus depending on the mall they could open up w.e supplies stores such that they control and have regular access to the necessary equipment.
malls use 111,000 the average lab uses 75k to 80k
lol if you ever see a home depot and a pharmacy within a mall and/or strip mall, someone came to the same conclusion i did.

I think the biggest problem with this as a concept is that a "front" needs to ideally NOT attract constant foot traffic.
Like, some crummy tax office or a busted-up laundromat isn't exactly somewhere that people go to hang out or meander.
You'd also need to buy out the entire mall, and staff it with people in-the-know. Because otherwise someone from a legit store in the mall will notice what's going on.
That's a whole lot of loose ends, and a whole lot of paychecks that the Fed is going to look at.

Another thing about shopping is that they never have anything that cool/fun or non-clothing (at least to me and the mall I go to) because every time I go to the mall I only get snacks and maybe a plushie or a rare cool piece of clothing because every store has the same. Damn. Thing. Literally the only stores I go to is bath & body works or maybe a geek store if they have anything good. Clothing shopping is honestly a nightmare for me

  • @Dstryrr
    @Dstryrr 20 днів тому +7

Shopping sucks. People need to stop buying excess clothes and stuff because they genuinely do NOT need more. Buy good quality clothing that will last for years and take care of it and you won't have to buy another piece of that clothing unless it's damaged. Even then you can have clothes altered and repaired for way cheaper than replacing it with something new. Honestly 2 years of buying good quality clothing when necessary, especially basic clothing that is timeless, and you probably will not have to buy new clothing for YEARS if you take proper care of your clothes.

As a kid I once got a fungus infection of the skin on the left side of my right thigh. The doctor said that it may have been contacted from clothes tried on. There's no way to tell for sure that that's where I got it from. But I don't like it. That's why when I shop for trousers, I always wear my long underpants - I think you call them _long johns,_ but _john_ has too many meanings in English and I'm afraid of saying the wrong thing, so I'm not calling them that. Sometimes they're also called _leggings,_ but I feel like leggings actually are a subtly different thing and those who call them that are wrong. I have no evidence of that. I just feel like it's the case.
Anyway, that's why I never spontaneously look for trousers when I'm at some place where they are sold. I have to go out specifically for that and dress accordingly. You may think that when it's cold I would wear my long underpants anyway and could try on some trousers spontaneously. But I don't want to go try on clothes when I wear a thick jacket - one that gets too hot when inside so I'd have to take it off and hold it while I'm inside the shop.

We used to have a good mall in my town, it was bustling when I was young, but a Chinese company bought it out and with the help of Walmart, it became a ghost town. Sometimes I walk through the mall and I think it's like liminal space. I can almost hear the laughter of children in the space where the arcade used to be. I remember the JC Penny and the JB Toys. We had a lot of good things and Walmart and all the horrible companies that are like them destroyed that. Our mall here in Muskogee used to be great. . . Now it's just a place for old people to walk in. It's in a bad place in town so bless them for even going there, especially after the shootout. . .

7:36 The mall I used to work at had a security guard that DEFINITELY wanted to be a cop, but somehow failed cause boy was he intense. Also, he fully knew I worked there and would still hassle me on my way out when I closed, but only when I was alone (I’m black, and closers walk out when the mall is empty). He wouldn’t bother me if I was walking out with a coworker. Like this man would specifically follow *me* at an uncomfortable distance (I could constantly hear the whirring of his stupid segway behind me) and I had to get his supervisor involved. And it was t like it was just the two of us, there were other non-black closers walking out of their respective stores around the same time, and some people who would just loiter. But nope, he was too busy following me around to look at any of them. Apparently he’s had issues before.

Sadly, some are like that. They have these "policies" or "protocols" that are only for some people and not others and end up in trouble because they aren't paying attention on actual shoplifters. Had that happen in a sephora where the guy was clearly around me to see if I would act suspicious. I just bought something for my sister and as I was leaving someone was also leaving and it beeped on them. He should've been paying more attention to them!

Denim is made of cotton. You absolutely could start your own cotton farm. It's blue because indigo dye didn't penetrate more than the surface of the threads, which somehow made it softer to wear over time, as other dye often made a fabric stiffer. With each wash it made the jeans fade a little, too, which was pleasing to the eye after a while. They were also durable as heck. Old timey prospectors loved that the jeans, with each wash, would get soft and also shape themselves over time to fit their bodies better, and thus Levi's was born.

denim was created for a more durable clothing material for miners and farmers which became popular due to it wide usage. It is more durable than regular cotton pants due to the adage of additional diagonal layers of cotton in the fabric. it is died blue because at the time when blue jeans were first being made blue was the easiest pigment that didn’t require heat to work.

I still have clothes i wore in high school so i definitely still have most of the clothes from those websites, even the ones i never wore because they didn't fit or didn't look right because i hope i can fix them one day. I've only had one garment fall apart, and it was mostly just a bunch of holes appearing in the fabric, idk if it was due to washing and drying or because i had mice in that apartment 😳 but all other clothes i still have and use! But now that I've graduated and have a well paid full time job, I'm glad I'll be able to purchase higher quality clothing, or the fabric to make my own

I will say that, back in the early to mid thousands, malls were a pretty great place to be, still.
People were starting to prevent pre/teens from loitering elsewhere or be alone walking the streets so the mall was a place you could go with friends and just wander around. Bring $20 and you'd have money for food and a snack or small item.
My friends and i would go to the mall and hang around in the book store, then go to those random stores that always had a wide variety of stuff but never anything we thought people would actually buy, then finish our trip at the hot topic because they had fun cheap stuff and candy.
Last time i went to that mall, there was only food, clothing, and books. One place sold nostalgic candy so i checked that out, but the lack of things to look at really meant there wasn't much to do so there was essentially no one there.
I go to a mall in another state sometimes and even then i go to a full 2 stores (one the book store, the other an anime/east asian popular things). Anytime anything else has been interesting there, they're closed within the year. I think half that mall's empty stores now
