I'm not gone lie,, that Martin Theme song, was song Loud ass Old school cranking. That sounded like something from the 90's or Early 2000's.. you don't hear that kind of power and dread from Bands often,. Very Well done TxSu.
Txsu Got the dub just wished they tie more chords in the Btones to balance the sound in certain arrangements but dont sleep on alcorn they most definitely wasn't a push over they handle business well just got alot of cleaning up to do. Those arrangements just need more harmony lip slurs imo they got potential. Great battle i love seeing these two go head to head!

This was a straight SLUGFEST! Both schools sounded great. This battle is normally pretty good tho. Butttt. TxSU for the W. It came down to the better arrangements for me. Alcorn sounded great, but the arrangements were a lil off (Apeshit was horrible). Other than that, this was an all-around great 5th.

Just finished listening on headphones, TxSU takes decisive Win. Alcorn was straight but not as clean and there were a couple of songs like Ape Shit and the song at the 17:05 mark that should never have made it to the 5th, the first was decently arranged but poorly executed, Ape shit was let's just say, shit. Other than Alcorn was straight. 5 stars to the GGs. Motion came up but needs to execute a lil better. TxSU band, clean precise and powerful. Granted the Trumpet sections is the weak link #s wise but they holding it down. Not to mention, TxSU book has always been one of the better books in the SWAC. This game was no exception. Good luck to both programs.

Alcorn has moments when there sound can be put up against anybody... but then in the same song, they seem to disappear and not deliver after buildups.. I enjoyed both band but The Ocean with the Dub! #SWACLove

Alcorn came a long way since last year’s tragic season but TxSU was the better band with better arrangements, power, balance, etc. Their upper brass is pushing watts considering how much lower brass they have. I’m an 🌊🌊🌊 fan this year!!

TXSU and ALCORN, have a similar sound, although TXSU sound a bit better, just a lil sound distortion with the over blowing on some songs. TXSU with the "W". Get them numbers up TXSU.

MELVIN CEASER I agree but they are working with what they have. Just like what JSU had to do to compensate for the lack of Trumpets. Also being from Texas and grew up listening to TXSU they have always been lower brassy. SU really is the only band that is Top brass heavy because of the NO culture.

travisjohnson057 I agree that SU has too many trumpets that’s unnecessary; however SU is a Top Brass band so that’s not going to change. JSU is a Mid-Bottom brass heavy band which is not going to change although our trumpets are working they way back. TXSU sound is good for what they have. You have to play on your strengths and TXSU is doing that. Alcorn has no excuse they are a balanced band but yet they are sorry. 🤷🏾♂️

Kaleb Williams Yes there such a thing. 50-60 trumpets is good. Anything over is excessive and Technically with them having Euphoniums is making them inbalance so no matter how many trumpets they bring in they will still get overpowered by them. SU arrangements are mostly written for Trumpets so it makes since to have a lot plus they are from a Second line band culture where top brass is essentially to the sound. JSU is more Motown mid brass heavy sound. Trumpets can be replaced as we seen in recent years. Since everyone is riding SU sound, they like to hear the trumpets carry the melody. If written right I agree. I think JSU new arranger is working with the Trumpets on breathing, proper phrasing, and endurance. That Circle of Life is proof they doing something with the trumpets.Correction JSU & SU is the top of the class in the SWAC!

Alcorn is playing at an angle toward TxSU so there's no difference. They're bells are facing in the Ocean's direction.
Correction: as i look again, some bells are facing the ocean, others are faced forward. It's not a huge difference but enough to throw off the sound a lil bit. And on top of that some of them aren't paying attention missing cut offs...

Lil dude the fact that you responded to this is a reach because I made an adjustment to my original response. So since you obviously want some attention, it is clear as damn day that SOME of you were playing directly towards TxSU. Which makes sense as to why there are some balance issues. There were also SOME missed cutoffs, presumably because those individuals weren't paying attention trying to get sound across the field. Now, as far as the camera angle, most of the videos from various recorders are in similar position. It's funny that you use camera angles as an excuse when SU puts EVERYBODY in that god forsaken, claustrophobic ass corner, yet SU doesn't complain about camera angles! if you don't want angled camera views then put your visiting bands in a more direct position. Or better yet, during zero and fifths maybe y'all should consider angling your position so that this is a mute argument... Problem solved. Enjoy your day and the L y'all took.
I dont have a bone in this fight. However, In my opinion, Alcorn sounds sloppy on a few songs.. I'll give the edge to The Ocean. Even though the band is baritone heavy and can get out of control as far as balance sometimes, they still have a cleaner sound and they matched Alcorn in power. They also had a better song selection. Again this is just my opinion and no disrespect intended. Luv to both bands.
