  • We're back with another For Honor map tour, this time we're going through the Knight Map "The Shard," famously known for being the castle of Apollyon and the Blackstone Legion. It was in this location that Apollyon was ultimately defeated in battle, though even in death her goals for endless war were achieved. We'll be looking at the complexity and detail of the map today. Hope y'all are excited.

    For Honor maps are genuinely underrated

    I remember Appolyon saying something about how the shard isn't a castle on a hill. Its a castle, built on a castle, built on a castle. And she had yet to reach its bottom. So its probably way older, and way bigger than the map leads you to believe

    I would love to see another map set on the Shard, maybe along the outer wall with the setup of the Samurai bridge map but a bit more narrow, or set more inside the castle. Change The Shard’s name to Shard Battlements or Shard Ramparts and call the other maps accordingly. A map set in The Shards dungeon? Call it Shard’s Depths. A map set along the upper wall? Shield of the Shard. Honestly it’s such a shame we only have one map for these big castles like this

      They could totally add a duels map of the Apollyon final boss arena.

    Do you plan to cover Breach Maps as well? It will take some time to look at every detail but I think those are worth looking into.

    This is not Apollyon's castle. It's one very similar to it. The minion lane is ripped from the last cutscene of the campaign, though, which is why people sometimes get confused.

      The surrounding environment is also very similar.

      I don’t entirely believe that though because the map is called The Shard and Apollyon calls her castle that in an observable in the last mission.

    • @thekb3035
      @thekb3035 2 місяці тому +3

      @@dutchalwayshasaplan4956 Wait, you're right. It is actually Apollyon's castle. But I think I know why it doesn't feel the same. In the campaign, we are already pretty high up when we start. I think the Dominion map is what you see when you look down.

    • @dutchalwayshasaplan4956
      @dutchalwayshasaplan4956 2 місяці тому +1

      @@thekb3035 Yeah it is and it seems that in story mode due to how high we are they devs didn’t have to make it as detailed below as it is in the Dominion map which also allowed the devs to size it up more to give the castle a feeling of it being insanely massive while being all the way up there. I also would like some part of that upper area to be a map.

    2:53 To me this kinda looks like the wooden floor was a folding bridge and "the pit" below it could have been a waterway for ships to dock in before the water receded. Maybe after the water had shown that it wasn't going to rise that high again the front door - along with other structures on level with the pit - was built?
    This is all in theory due to the lore mentioning different bodies of water receding after the cataclysm, along with the water level being significantly higher during the Ocelot's season.

    Maybe I'm wrong but I remember that somewhere it said that there are many fortresses like the shard all across knight territory and apollyon's castle is similar to this in architecture but bigger, which makes sense that the HQ of a legion is bigger than the other not so important ones.

    Would honestly love if they expanded upon old maps and made a pve game mode with them. Like a co-op dungeon game mode where you run through different parts of the expanded map and kill enemies and a boss. For the shard specifically it would be cool if we could fight through hordes of warriors as we rise further up the castle to where The Orochi fought Apollyon and face Apollyon or a Warmonger who has taken the shard.

    That would be cool if we've got another breach map for the knights that look more similar to these maps in dominion. Imagine a castle or fort in the middle of a valley, forest or plains. The only one knight map is the Walled City but looks more like a middle eastern fortress honestly, not a terrible design by any means but different.

    I do dislike though that the developers forgot to add back in the attackers cutscene after the Tempest flood season ended. I also hate that at the destroyed watch tower the fire isn’t actually over there it’s floating in the air halfway to the tower. Also I hate that at the two extended battlements or towers at the minion lane in Dominion had their doors removed and are now blocked off with stone fortification walls which looks very odd. I would like them to add that bridge into Dominion though.

  • @reinhardtc.p
    @reinhardtc.p 2 місяці тому

    I could be wrong, but isn't the whole area with the chains in the towers where Vela's ship used to dock during the Great Flood? In the trailer for Vela i think the ship is docked in the retractable wooden platform, basically zone c in Dominion. Could be wrong tho.

    The shard to me is probably one of the landmarks on the map that I think should be definitely have more maps to it. it is massive with countless parts likely being added on over the centuries of conflict in Heathmore, because the way I could describe it is if you wanted to fortify a very important spot with no expense being too much, because the shard is practically in the center of the map where ashfeld valkenium and the Myre meet. This is a very important spot to make sure your enemies cannot come into your lands without contest. And given how large it is I could easily believe that it would take them a very long time just to clear the entire castle out even if they can with how much The fortress extends underground that Apollyon admits she hasn’t found how far it goes, and she has been in that castle for over 20 years. So overall, the shard is a very cool location and probably the greatest fortress in for honor’s world.

    • @VibeDPyro
      @VibeDPyro 2 місяці тому

      I’d want to see the inside of the shard, in the event that some attackers get inside. Would make some great duel maps and maybe even a good dominion map, as if to say that the previous attack was only the beginning.
