You asked if this was their longest song!!! Their albums, Thick as a Brick, and A Passion Play, are both one continuous song start to finish! Thick as a Brick was actually written as a spoof of "concept albums" but became probably the best concept album ever! A Passion Play is a little ditty about the afterlife ! Thanks Nick! Always enjoy your reactions!

A “little ditty about the afterlife.” Holy crap, dude. Nailed it, sarcastically. As weird as others may find it, it’s a go-to right behind Little Milton’s disqualified writing contest entry showing his “extremely unwholesome attitude toward life, his God and Country.”

Yes Tull is Anderson /Barre. I believe they literally fed off of each other's energy. One without the other just isnt quite the same. But Ill always love them - that goes for the rest of the original, extremely talented members.

Brilliant choice Gary. This is my second favourite Tull album, every track superb! The fact that you love this epic Nick highlights one of the great mysteries of the channel, why haven't you reacted to Thick As A Brick?? It is perfect for Patreon reaction, two pieces of music (Side 1 & 2) even better than this track, with one of the great segues from end of side one to start of side 2! If the Dan folk don't choose it, just do it yourselves. It's that good! Prog rock brilliance.

I think it's time you do a marathon of Tull live! I specifically suggest the double live concert version called, "Bursting Out"! It's a perfect blend of acoustic to heavy rock and blues. Lots of amazing instrument changes and solos of course. I saw this tour in south Florida in the 70s and it was one my favorite I have ever seen. Even if you just want to listen and not review, this one is a must, start to finish! Stay cool! Peace!✌

Jethro Tull is truly remarkable and exceptional in every aspect.
Their albums, particularly "Thick as a Brick" and "A Passion Play," stand out as their lengthiest compositions, each spanning an impressive 45 minutes.
These works are nothing short of masterpieces, and I highly recommend that you listen to them. Additionally, it's worth noting that Jethro not blocking those who react to their music most of the time, which is a very nice.
Thank you once again for your wonderful reaction🤘
I would like to bring to your attention another exceptionally talented progressive rock band called "The Windmill." Their music is truly remarkable, and I highly recommend their song "The Tree" from their album "Tribus." This 23-minute composition is an absolute masterpiece and a testament to their musical prowess.🙏

I love the Minstrel album more today than I did when it came out.
The way Ian Anderson keeps reinventing his sound with each incarnation of Tull is amazing. Knowing all, I rate Minstrel in the top 3 now.

  • @TheMinster1960

Tull's most baroque sounding albums were Warchild (1974) and Minstrel In The Gallery (1975), and Ian's voice was at its peak at this time. Martin Barre really got to shine on Minstrel in particular. Jethro Tull didn't really go full on prog until Thick As A Brick and followed that with A Passion Play in 1973. Next to those two albums Minstrel In The Gallery is probably their next most progressive.
As far as seeing Jethro Tull live these days the band is past its prime as Ian Anderson is the only member from the 70s era left in the lineup, and his voice is a shadow of its former self. However, he can still play the flute very well and is still releasing albums under the Jethro Tull moniker. The last one was pretty good.
Former guitarist Martin Barre has a band that tours that does a good job with the Tull catalogue. In fact, Martin plays better now than he did back in Tull's heyday. I encourage you to see them if you get the chance.

One thing I love about JT (a trait shared with early Genesis) is that, for the most part, they didn't take themselves too seriously. Save for a few moments where Ian gets a bit preachy (and he gets preachier with time tbh), they didn't delve into deep philosophical mumbo-jumbo nor did they pretend to convey a "deep and thoughtful message". They just focused on crafting amazing music and even spoofed a concept album that ironically became for the general public the "mother of concept albums" (Thick as a Brick). In fact, they literally became prog in 1972 by "mocking" prog, so joke's on them I guess lmao
Oh, by the way, Barriemore Barlow was the drummer on Yngwie Malmsteen's "Rising Force" album 🧐 and also played for Robert Plant and one point

martin Barre The guitar player is still touring here in the U S, he's gonna be in Florida, in Largo in October. I already have tickets for that. You could probably get tickets for that pretty easy, and they're very cheap and he does.A lot of Jethro Tull stuff. Its a great concert. A Tull show is very good , but Ian has lost his voice. If you could only see one, it would be hard to say which.
But because of ian's voice I would probably go with seeing martin. I don't.
Know where you live, but check Martin's schedule. He may be playing somewhere near you soon.

Like williambaldridge1203 I have seen Tull over 35 times in the U.K. from 1971 through to 2012 and have seen them play everything off this album on various tours except Baker St Muse (my favourite off the album). It is an incredible and difficult piece of music for band members (and Ian) to have to remember and perform, although I did see the TAAB2 tour which included playing the original TAAB as well, so I guess the band could have attempted this on one of the tours.

After the release I played this album on and on and on. Summer 76 I made my only visit to London ever. The crash between welth and poverty was so exotic compared to Sweden, and so in line with the lyrics. I accidently crossed Baker St.! I saw the poor people of this song, of Aqualung, (and of Streets of London - Ralph McTell). Maybe this was a clash also for Ian coming from North UK. Today Sweden is more similar to the rest of the world.
They will play in Sweden also. I have seen them several times, but its not the same without Martin Barre. If Barre comes I will go!

    • @Ganon-n2w
      @Ganon-n2w Місяць тому

Unfortunately it appears either he never shows them to Alexia or she just hasn't listened to any of the stuff he says he'll show to her. When they finally reacted to TAAB (loooong overdue considering this is one of the GREATS) she still claimed My God was her favorite, even though Nick has done a fair number of marathons on some of their proggier material from Songs From the Wood, Heavy Horses and even this album, but she apparently has been unaware of the incredible tunes Nick has been exposed for about two years now. I'd doubt she'd still say My God is her favorite JT song were she to also listen to what he has listened to, though I could be wrong (of course)
It also seems they're never letting go of Benefit, it's almost as if they're traumatized by it to the point of blocking any other JT album in their head. Why do I say this? Well, I happened upon their august Rush full album reaction (which won to A Passion Play by just 1%) and they were nagging about not wanting JT to win because of Benefit. I simply don't get the hate towards that album (they listened to the bonus tracks which were OUTTAKES and judged the entire thing based on those)
I respect that people have their preferences, but to profess that you enjoyed a song very much and that you'll show it to Alexia only to forget about it the minute you post it and still judge that band off an album you didn't like seems a bit disingenuous to me, ngl.
I actually considered paying for a marathon (not Jethro Tull btw, but a Latin American artist) but then I thought it'll just be wasting money. He'll just say he enjoyed it very much and not give it much thought

@@williambaldridge1203 It's amazing for what it is. I understand they were expecting it to be the next Close to the Edge but even Yes was not doing "prog" in 1970, they would become proggier with the Yes Album in 1971. Tull became prog in 72 but you could still hear the amazing musicianship in Benefit and the tasteful interplay and harmonization between the instruments. To me, that's far more compelling than just showoffy time signature changes (and I love me some prog).
That's why it's important to do some research on the band before a reaction, and on the album's actual track listing instead of relying on the one shown on the box set, but that's just me.

Go find and review a couple of tunes from 1969 Beck-Ola by Jeff Beck (Plynth, Hangman's Knee, Jailhouse Rock,) all nasty and wonderful! Rod Stewart vocals at his best . . . as was Beck !

Well, I guess you're gonna hear it, but you cut off the last, I don't know, 30 seconds or 45 seconds when he couldn't get the door open, anyway. The next time you listen to it, let it play to the end.
