Quick and easy realistic model railroad scenery how-to. For more info on building roads, see also: • Bobot's O-Gauge Layout #6 bobotstrains.blogspot.com/sear...
I've been a little apprehensive about adding realism to my new O gauge shelf layout but your easy how to video gives me the confidence to start. Thank you for that.
Sure it was helpful i have been altering my railway layout and the required shape of it now is very pleasing to the eye,and the next step is applying lots of ground cover which will go onto styrene foam sheets. Thanks for this your old post, but of course a new one for me. BB
FYI, 3M general purpose spray adhesive works wonders for holding down turf. You just spray the area you're covering, pour it out, and then you spread excess turf over the whole adhered area. It'll stick to floral foam, MDF, plywood, and extruded insulation foam. You can also use it for ballast I imagine, as long as you cover up the top of the rails and ties.
McCormick seasoning bottle! Grated Parmesian cheese container! Very handy for dispensing ground cover turf or soil. Very true, that at the Dollar Store, one can find all manner of dispensing containers in the form of shakers, sprayers, or squeeze bottles - all for one dinero. One particularly useful container is in the small, eyeglass cleaner kit, which comes with a cloth piece and spray bottle. The spray bottle atomizes liquids into a fine mist, and has not clogged yet using Woodland Scenics Scenic Cement. Just immerse the siphon tube in clear water after using, and spritz a couple.
I found your sit looking for help in scenery ground cover. I will be adding ground cover on my train layout and your video helped me. Will check out more videos on your sit. Greetings from New Jersey
Not too dissimilar from my scenicing process, though I've never gone past the original glue application, and initial layers. I'll for darn sure be tryin out the additional steps when I start construction of my new layout.
Please see my video "Bobot's O-Gauge Layout #6" for some info on how i build my roads. Also, check the link in the video description above to Bobot's Train Blog for an article on road building. Thanks!
As I mentioned in the video, I'm not a scenery or art expert. I am just showing my method in hopes that it helps someone starting out. I figured using the layered approach would allow me to add more as needed but it would be harder to remove too much material. In the end, it's really hard to mess up scenery though...look around you...scenery is rarely symmetric or perfect.
I just came across this video. Great presentation. Easy to understand. Please tell me how you mix your scenic cement. Do you dilute it with water? Thanks very much.
You can either buy a premixed solution of scenic cement from places like Scenic Express or Woodland Scenics, or mix your own with white glue and water around 50/50 ratio.
No real brand on these. I transfer the scenic cement into a mini ketchup or mustard squeeze tip bottle I got at the dollar store. You can use eye-droppers, or plastic pippettes which you can get from the local hobby shop, craft stores, or on Amazon.
Thank you. Seven years later and you are still helping others make our world a more beautiful place.

This video has taught me I've not been doing a good enough job of LAYERING. Thank you.
Nice. Well filmed. Love the sped up video and doing a voice over-lay at the end. Others should pay attention to this

Love the layout! What track roadbed product is that? Did you paint it? Thanks.
Your layout is going to taste delicious
Thanks your layout looks good and gave me a few nice ideas for my layout. Keep up the good work.
You should paint the bottom your base color then apply your grass it dries and leaves no white spots.
Thanks. The base of mine was a light green foam so it worked out well.
iMovie '11 on Mac - select the clip and set Fast Forward to speed desired (ie 2x, 4x, 8x, etc)
Thanks for that. Really great technique. Rocks look a bit bright. Would you tone them down with something?
+jj53 You could throw the rocks in a bowl with some diluted india ink or pigment and then fix it on with some scenic glue. Glad this helped you.
Very Helpful, Thank you .
super. cool. cool. cool. cool
Nice job on doing this . And thanks for the tip . And from what I can see you have a great lay out to!!!! Takecare:).

Doesn't the scenic grass, and dirt dry with a hard shell texture instead of the grass and dirt look when dry?
good detail thank you
+Chris Edwards Glad it was helpful to you
Where do you buy your cars, trucks, police cars, etc. from?
They have a pretty decent selection at: www.modeltrainstuff.com
Mother bought me a trainset for Christmas in 1968 and it had a station with little people ☺☺🚈🚊🚋🚈🚈🚂🚂🚂🚃🚄🚄🚄
What is the brand of the bottle you used to pour the scenic cement and eye dropper?
No real brand on these. I transfer the scenic cement into a mini ketchup or mustard squeeze tip bottle I got at the dollar store. You can use eye-droppers, or plastic pippettes which you can get from the local hobby shop, craft stores, or on Amazon.
Any idea where I could get some of these materials?
