ISU should score the spins much much higher than currently. Skaters work so hard on them but compare to jumps their scores are tiny
Рік тому+3
At the senior level, that is absolutely true! The issue becomes that at the lower levels, spins and step sequences can contribute just as much (if not more) to a score as a jump. The base values do not change as the level increases - only the GOE. Check out some IJS protocols for the US levels up to Novice and you will see what I mean.
Have you ever thought of doing a podcast? I’m way more interested in the technical side of the sport then the viewership side, but most figure skating content (especially podcasts) are just about competition recaps or skater drama/controversies. I’d love to see more skating content made for actual skaters who want to listen to things more like advice for skating or for hearing other skaters opinions on certain topics. I think it could be a nice way to expand into topics that are more subjective like what is “perfect” technique or how to break through mental blocks. (also i’m not saying anything about your content should be different! this is one of the only channels that makes content FOR skaters which I love!)
also something I feel is really missing from skating content is opinions/info from the actual skaters along with their coaches. coaches are obviously an incredible resource for learning, but sometimes it’s really helpful to listen skaters explain what allowed them to learn a new skill or how they improved their components, etc.

I'm so glad that you love my content! My approach to the topics is from the skater's perspective and then the coach perspective. Most of all though, I put myself in the shoes of someone that knows nothing (like a parent of a skater) and try to explain it from there. I have found that there is a knowledge gap where many in skating address things by first implying that you should already know the basics. But what if you don't?! And most people don't know what they they don't know! I don't really have the bandwidth more than one style of content. However, you can listen to the video without watching and not miss much! I know that some people do that while they are driving.

Another thing that I include is the judges perspective from my conversations with judges and being an ISI judge myself. U.S. Figure Skating has a Social Media Policy for Judges so that perspective is not often readily available to the public.
Spins tend to be my kryptonite. Part of the problem is I'm "neurodivergent" and have issues with proprioception. And while it's not an entirely insurmountable problem--I'm currently working on the first half of LTSUSA "Free Skate 1" elements--it does make things more difficult (taken me 4 years of hard work to get here). Have you worked with people on the spectrum or otherwise with proprioception issues? Is there anything other than "keep working at it" one can do to get past them?

I work with many skaters with a variety of challenges, including those on the spectrum. One thing that you may want to consider is your equipment. Sometimes, changing your blade can make a significant difference when it comes to spins. You may want to discuss your specific challenges with your coach. They may have suggestions about changes that you can make that may improve your spins. I have a series of videos about blades that can help you here: ua-cam.com/play/PLhIvo-BmGcaU_Oz4eM2T7YCAZWDKkch4I.html
Hi, i always wonder when do they start counting the revolution of upright spin? As in back scratch and one foot spin, is it when you starting to pull the leg in on when the heel is already touch the other heel? Thank you in advance🩵
Рік тому+3
The revolutions begin after the entrance. So, the first full revolution after your entrance is your first revolution no matter when you start to pull your leg. The number of full revolutions is counted between the entrance and the exit of any spin.
@ sorry, i just come up with one more question, the rev will only start counting when you are in that specifin position of that spin only right? For example: a skater is trying to attempt a layback spin but was waiting until herself is stable in the 1st position which is the spin with the free leg on the side for example let's say 3 rev, then just start to attempt to layback position. In this case the first 3 rev is not counting right? Thank youuu

@@noeypalsha3878 a spin consists of a minimum of 3 revolutions, so the if you begin in a different position, it starts with that position. For a combination spin, all three positions (upright, sit, camel) are required for 2 full revolutions in each position.
