Fun Fact about this group Shalamar: the third guy seen on the album cover on the screen during this video is Jeffrey Daniel. He is the guy that showed Michael Jackson how to do the Moon Walk. Jeffrey did not invent the Moon Walk. But, Jeffrey bought it back to style in the 80s. The Moon Walk was invented in the 1930s.
This is a fun song. Shalamar always made hits. My favorite in the group though is Jody Watley. You should check out some of her songs like "Don't you want me" and "Looking for a new love". Thank you for another great reaction.
The majority of Shalamar's songs were written by their labelmates, Dynasty and Lakeside. The production is from Leon Sylvers, who also played bass, and was a founding member of Dynasty. Leon produced most of The Whispers hits from 1980 to 1984. Of course, he was part of the group The Sylvers, but he left when Dick Griffey offered him a key production role for SOLAR Records, to which all of these artists belong. SOLAR is an acronym for, Sound Of Los Angeles Records.
Another masterpiece by Shalamar! Can’t beat that 80s production 🔥 Their lyrics were always so beautiful and meaningful 💗 check out ‘I can make you feel good’ by them.. such a jam 💃🏻
Leon Sylvers, III. One of the best producers to ever do it. He has a really great interview on the Questlove Supreme podcast....check that out if u have time..
One of the best tracks of the 80s, full stop. Other essential Shalamar: "There It Is", "Take That to the Bank", "The Second Time Around". FYI: The great Leon Sylvers III was their producer in the late 70s & early 80s. He also played bass on those albums.
They were the "First" Reality Group to come out of Music. They were discovered on Soul Train as Dancers. Don Cornelius decided to create his own Record Label called SOLAR (Sound Of Los Angeles Records), and Shalamar was born. Jeffrey Daniels quit and was replaced by Jermaine Stewart who also danced on American Bandstand. He left for a Solo Career and worked with Mikey Craig on Culture Club who discvoered him who sang Backup on Miss Me Blind by Culture Club. He had his own hits like The Word Is Out, and "We Don't Have To Take Our Clothes Off" that was also covered by The UK Girlband Clea (Chloe Lynsey Emma Aimee) who didn't make Girls Aloud. It was also voted by Glamour Magazine along with "Let's Wait Awhile" by Janet Jackson as one of the best songs to promote Safe Sex in the 1980's. Sadly Jermaine died of AIDS. Jody is a Solo Artist but I don't know what happened to Jeffrey Daniels or Howard Hewitt. Jody along with Banarama were the only Females who sang "Do They Know It's Xmas" as part of Band Aid as well. In later years a UK Pop Star named Kavanaugh aka "Kav" also covered this song as well. In the UK it's a common practice for UK Boyband/Girlband Solo Stars to cover obscure R & B Hits. For The Songwriters who still own the songs if they are lucky enough make "Bank".
Love Shalamar! Dancing in the Sheets, The Second Time Around and Make that Move are also great danceable songs by them. You should also check out their solo stuff like I’m for Real and Say Amen by Howard Hewett or Friends and Real Love by Jody Watley.
Omg! A MILLION THANK YOUS FOR THIS REACTION!!🥰 It's been a minute since I remembered I asked for this request after you watched their other video months ago. There was an actual video to this song. The guy with the Afro is Jeffrey Daniels, who did the Moonwalk as a Soul Train dancer. Michael Jackson saw it...called him and asked him to come teach him how to do it. He asked Daniels if he could use it as a signature move that he wanted to debut on the Motown 25 show. ....And the rest is history. I love this jam. Get into it, yes!!
First time viewer, love that you're detail oriented with your listening. Definitely agree that the lyrics are perfect for the vibe at hand, this one's absolutely a cookout classic
Shalamar eventually disbanded and went solo. I would highly recommend you check out Howrd Hewitt's song Once, Twice, Three Times. Talk about true grown folk next level music. You won't be sorry.
This is one of my go to songs when I'm in an 80s vibe! And Mase sampled this song back in 99! It's called Get ready Black Street is singing the chores to it
The Second Time Around is another great song from them , as is Show Me by lead singer Howard Hewett. The first " moonwwalker" Jeffrey Daniel is rocking the fro, aka The Popalong Kid. Also listen to Somewhere theres a love for me.
Jack, I clicked so fast! I love Shalamar, brings back so many good memories 😊. Please react to Second Time Around and their slept on ballad Somewhere There’s A Love 🔥🔥🔥🔥
OMGGG! So weird! I subscribed yesterday, cause I just loved your janet jackson reactions, and then I was looking for "a night to remember" reaction but couldn't find it. Was about to write you a message so you could react to it.....! Made my day :D Oh, and could you please react to the video where Jeffrey Daniel from Shalamar dance on "Top of the pops" to this song? He went to perform alone in the UK, and did the "backslide" later known as the moonwalk! MJ was very inspired by Jeffrey, they also worked together. Anyway, this performance went viral at that time, he had to come back to the show to perform again. Watch it, a classic!!!
"I Can Make You Feel Good", please. To be fair, the lyrics often aren't that much in dance songs like this. Party, having a good time, and hitting the right girl or guy to make the world a perfect place, mostly. I think this is structurally a pop song in dance guise. Both listenable and danceable. :)
Jody Watley was irreplaceable in Shalamar imho. Love so many songs from Jody Watley's solo career: Don't you want me / Some kind of lover / Still a thrill.
Plz react to a few of both lead singers Jody Watley & Howard Hewitt's solo songs which were all big hits! Jody: "Dont you want me?", "Looking for a new love", and "Everything," Howard Hewitt: "Show Me"
I'm a fan of your reaction video .. can i recommend u a song from the 90's, its a one hit wonder from Charles & Eddie - Would I Lie To you. U wont be dissapointed!

It’s so sweet that you have an old soul😉❤️❤️🎶🎶🔥🔥👌🏾
Shalamar was the jam back in the day!!
Jody Warley .. she's the queen !!
Two of the members are former Soul Train dancers. Jeffery Mc Daniels and Jodi Whatley! Jeffery actually introduced the moonwalk to Michael Jackson.
Oh, yeah! I just wrote that😅 sorry didn't see you already wrote that, but yeah!!😊 I saw them sing this at Disneyland 😍 it was so great!!! Fun fun!!
Jody Watley, Jeffrey Daniels

10 out of 10, is epic
My favourite group. Check out group member Jeffrey Daniel dancing to this in Top of the Pops, UK. Take That To The Bank is another wicked tune.
Paul Wall sampled For the Lover in you. The song is called, Swangin in the Rain..Mary J Blige did a remake of this song.
Takes me right back to my youth days!👍🏾🤩
Takes me back to my child hood..😏
