This is where I always get lost. In the beginning, when you added the example я еду в университет, was it implied that the university was out of the city?
Also, example 5 in exercise, the explanation is that the vehicle is mentioned but is it again implied that the university is out of the city?
Hello! In the first example, it is obvious that the person is going to the university by car. In the second example, transportation is not mentioned.
Hi Amazing Russian, I hope you are having a wonderful Christmas holiday this year! For one of the examples, it said Летом я еду в Россию which means that you have plans to go to Russia in the summer. But can we use Летом я езжу в Россию in order to say “In general, in the summertime I go to Russia”? In the previous video, ходить can be used when talking about going places in general, so would this apply to ездить as well?
Hello Emma,
When it is a distance trip, we always use «ехать-ездить». Plans: еду. Often, regularly: eзжу. Marry Christmas! 🎄
@@AmazingRussian Спасибо! Merry Christmas to you as well 🎄
Hello Teacher! Thanks a lot for your videos on Russian motion verbs. I'm an Ivorian, very interested in the Russian language. I'd like to know if these specifications related to motion verbs in Russian have to do with aspects (imperfective and perfective).
Reply please.
THIERRY ATSE , the motion verbs that do not have prefixes are unidirectional and multidirectional but do not have aspect (imperfective-perfective). Prefixed verbs lose their directionality (uni-multi) and gain aspect. For example: идти - ходить (uni-multi); приходить - прийти (imperfective -perfective). Hope it makes sense.
@@AmazingRussian Thanks for these explanations.
If I say I go to the cinema (going locally) but it is by car, which verb should I use?
Я иду в кино. Я еду в кинотеатр на машине.
I'm confused because the example sentence you used at the 4 minute mark seems to contradict with the information you gave at the 10 minute mark.
At the 4 minute mark you gave the example of when we can use the е́здить verb. The example was 'Every day i go (е́здить) to the university'. But at the 10 minute mark in the video you say that we should use идти́ and ходи́ть verbs when talking about going to places locally, within the city, even if we use a vehicle. You used the example of going to the university, and going to work.
Please can you resolve the contradiction? It's rather confusing. Thank you
In the example at min 4, the picture of a car means that transportation is mentioned. For that reason, I use “ездить”. If you see someone you know at the gas station in the car, for example, you can ask: «Куда ты едешь?» even though it is in the city. Hope it helps.
I don't know how to thank you
