We can tell a native Spanish speaker and only they are allowed to attempt to speak Spanish to us (if they'll understand us back that's another story) but if you don't soeak Spanish well do English for the love of the gods. I once saw a group of americans trying to ask for ham and they asked for "jamon". The server took a long time to get it and suddenly he was like "oh, presunto? Ham?" (presunto is the Portuguese word for a specific type of ham) and they were like "Yeah, jamon." I never suddenly wished to commit violence on someone so strongly before.

Do not bring up politics or history at any cost if you're a tourist UNLESS you are criticising the Conservative Party (because everyone will agree) or you're criticising France or the USA in any aspect. Do not bring up the British Empire, do not bring up the King, do not bring up either World Wars and even if you ignore all of these PLEASE DO NOT BRING UP COLONIALISM. Bringing up colonialism to an English person is the single worst thing you can do because you are associating them with past atrocities they had no control over and it will make them very angry. Anyway thats all. Just a fair warning
Nice suggestions btw. British love to be put in a good bright light against others, like french, germans or other " competing" nations. Make them a good example and criticise the neighboors and you will be their friend. 🤪😜
