Hey everyone, it's finally here! RE2 is the first game that got me digging into lore and timelines, and the game that got me hooked, so I wanted to bring you new secrets and Easter eggs, and with the help of @MV_archeologist I think you'll find something new. Also wanted to go deeper into some of the older secrets.
This video was a big undertaking, especially with the new baby, so I really appreciate you checking it out and any likes and shares. I'll be back with Part 2 looking at the characters and Q&A, but there will probably be a Part 2 to Part 1 because I've become aware of MORE secrets haha. Thanks!
RE2 on N64 was my first exposure to the series and I have loved it ever since (despite the shite films and live actions that disgrace the series)

Apparently, I read somewhere as a response that the original writter of RE2, CVX and I think even RE3, died around the release time of RE4, and that's perhaps one of the reasons why you see a weird tone shift in the characters themselves... for the most part.
You may want to double check and verify this though
It's incredbile how I can ALWAYS learn something new from your channel even after spending my whole adolescence reading about RE everywhere I could.

**correction** You can see Brad from a New Game just by not picking up items, you don't have to clear the game first.
*AND* I think I messed up weapon unlock conditions. It says:
For the gatling gun clear the B scenario without saving with an S or A rank.
For the rocket launcher clear the A or B scenario under 2h30m with an S or A rank. 😅
Now that RE1 is done, time to research RE2. I realized that the Easter egg of shooting the screen with the shotgun is in RE1 as well. The auto aim caught me off guard too. I'm testing the dual shock edition, and by default, auto aim is turned off. Got all the way to Marvin before i figured that out. Great vid, boss.

One thing I rarely hear people mention is that Sherry won't ever struggle (at least in my experience) to climb up if you are NOT mashing the action button. Mashing makes her struggle almost 100% of the time.

I just realized you passed 2k subs. Congratulations! I remember you had like 700 when I found your channel and you have been putting out some of the best RE content around. I knew a lot of these, then again, maybe I didn't realize how much I've played RE 2. I did really enjoy you pointing out developer names placed throughout the game. That was pretty grand.
Side note: You said aiming the shotgun or rocket launcher up will take off a zombie's head. Did you mean grenade launcher? I'm pretty sure the rocket launcher just obliterates the zombie, ha ha.

Haha ok I just checked the book and the video, it's "destroy their head with the shotgun aimed up or the rocket launcher..." So they're saying as long as you destroy the head with either weapon it'll die no matter what. but you're right, of course the RL will kill the zombie, it's blown to pieces haha. Weird the book didn't mention the magnum right?!

A little titbit that people haven't really commented on in secrets videos.
if you pick up some bowgun bolts in RE2 original and use the check command on them, look closely at the symbol, its a stretched out biohazard symbol. meaning to me that on a memo somewhere someone must have confused bow with B.O.W, and firing g1 embryos out of a crossbow at zombies is a funny mental image

I'm confused about the one thing you say in regards to killing Brad and getting the special key for the costumes. You say it requires you to complete a B scenario, but I've done this on a fresh run of the game multiple times over the years. It should work for both A and B scenarios as long as you follow the criteria of not picking up any items and making your way to the area down the stairs where he appears.
Someone else brought that up too, I haven't tried it, that's just what it said in the book. Did you try that on the vanilla Biohazard 2 on ps1?

The absolutely biggest "secret" for me was the fact that you could play Scenario B after your first playthrough. I live in a country where English isn't a native language. I first played this game when I was 10 years old and my English tongue where bare boned. Nowhere did it mention anything about that. So when I played the Claire disc after going through the Leon disc, I simply pressed start new game. You really can't blame a 10 year old kid wit bare knowledge in a language about not knowing that. It was a fun experience though. The game just got twice as big.

Hot damn! You probably already know I'm a big fan of your channel; but please know that there is no hyperbole when I say this; some of this shit was mindblowing.
I am quite a RE2 nerd and I am aware of secrets such as 'if you don't kill Marvin in scenario A he will show up in scenario B' and that Resident Evil 2 on the DC is the only version that for some reason is tinted red (I hate mentioning this because it's one of those things that once you see it, you cannot unsee it. In fact I adore the DC and I still can't play RE2 on it because of the weird red tint. I have not found any technical reason for why it's like this buts its there. Just check a longplay on youtube and once you know to look out for it, you will be stupid that you never noticed it.
But yeah, even though I'm a massive nerd; this video showed me so much stuff that I didn't know. I've seen ALOT of RE2 easter egg videos and none of them have EVER pointed out all the staff names. Also can't believe I didn't know about the Ada gun continuity.
That's what I adore about Hideki Kamiya; he is such a master of details. Okami is one of the greatest games ever.
Anyway, great video as always and I cannot wait till part 2.
Can I quickly ask a question as well, do you speak Japanese/know the culture quite well? If so; do you have any clue why so many Japanese games have REALLY boring titles?
I will try to explain. So many Japanese games have beautiful art design on their cover artwork, especially the typography. Like could you imagine a METAL SLUG game without its metallic logo? Or MOTHER 3's uncanny use of clean metal and wood?
But I've played a bunch where the game starts and the title they use for the game is just laid out in boring and cheap looking white font. Unfortunately I can't think of an example now but are you able to tell me if there is a cultural reason behind this? Do the Japanese think looks cool to have really simple text at the beginning instead of the awesome logo they made. If I think of an example I will let you know but I know I've see it a dozen times and I just can't think where. Anyway! Love.
Haha some of it really is mind blowing! Sitting on these discoveries for months, I knew I had to do the stupid gag with the tyrant blowing up while saying "blew me away" because it really did. RE2 has been scoured over since 1998!

Hmm I'd say my Japanese level and cultural knowledge is intermediate, so I really couldn't give you an answer. Off the top of my head I might say it could just be a budgetary thing? I've heard TV and movie budgets are lower than overseas.

I want to keep the character videos mostly within the confines of the guidebook, and I remember having disagreements with some characterizations. But I thought of a future vid I could mention it about CV

As for the disagreements, I went over our engagements in my previous two videos.
I saw that the only point you disagreed was with the monster Steve about to kill Claire part, which is fine, as I realized by the latter videothat the purpose of that was to tell Claire's character story (it was for Claire to see that she was about to get killed, but something in Steve even in his monster form stopped him) more than telling steve's story.
If there are any other points of disagreement about Claire's characterization, please do let me know, as it will allow me to go back and improve my own analysis of characters, both hers and others (I'm considering Cole Phelps, or Big Boss next).
Believe it or not, I had my 1st disagreement, and that too, in a way that seemed the person got OFFENDED! This person basically indicated that Claire joining her hands at the end of Code Veronica (something she never did before then BTW)does not mean she is a religeous Christian, and somehow, her praying makes her less of a bad ass. This person was clearly only looking for ways to discredit my analysis, as I mentioned this point many times, that just because she is seen saying a small prayer at the end of CVX DOES NOT MEAN she is religeous or a nun or priest. It only means that she is not an athiest and she believes in a higher power... just like MOST people really... and that is a problem for some people.
I even spoke to a person from my gym a few days ago, who is going through all resident evil games this summer from beginning to end. The first thing he said about Claire is that she is the most human character of them all, everyone else acts so cliche.
My overall analysis posits that Claire is actually a very nice, kind hearted, and even empathetic person, who is NOT boy crazy, and who is not a door mat... and this is why the Steve death incident (from CVX, not DSC) hurt her so badly that even after 13 years, she did not come to terms with it, and she supresses the incident. You can actually make out a very clear change in character from the Claire before Steve's death, and the one after Steve's death.
Anyways, if there is anything else apart from the STEVE thing you disagree with, please do let me know. Really looking forward to our next engagement.

OK, PLEASE, PLEASE hear me out on this... I analyzed this A LOT before determining that trait. PLEASE hear me out.
Firstly, I NEVER, said she is religious (as in extremely pious). I merely indicated she most likely believes in a higher power, and is NOT an athiest. This makes her "God Conscious". As in real life, surely you understand that just because someone isn't physically weak, does not mean they can suddenly bench bress 500 lbs, just like if someone isn't of low IQ, does not mean they are automatically of 200 IQ, in the same way, just because if someone is NOT an athiest, does not mean they are RELIGIOUS. But, it at least means they believe in a higher power.
Next, the animators actually animated that, indicating that. they animated her joining her hands and perhaps wiping her face due to crying at the same time. Then she put her hands down and THEN turns to her left. They could have simply had her turn to the left from looking down, which is easier to do. This means that they were intending to tell something about her personality by animating that little extra feature in.
And finally, this is something from RE2 and CV. In RE2 when she says "My GOD has protected you" to Sherry, the general reason given behind that is that the word got mistranslated from "Charm" to "god" and she was referring to the good luck from her vest, her vest with an angelic depiction from Queen's song "made in heaven" which if you heard it, actually sounds somewhat like it's about God, or at least acknowledging a higher power. Notice she returns to such depictions in her CV outfit. Degenerations and Revelations 2 are her work clothes.
So, if she believes that a vest has SO much protective lucky powers that it can protect someone's life, it only means she is superstitious. You see MANY people like this, especially in the east. They wear something on their wrist, something around their necks, something on their foreheads, or even articles of clothing, believing in that superstition... and all of them believe in a higher power, as it's that higher power that's the basis of the belief in that superstition. This, coupled with the fact that in RE2, she just managed to survive her 1st Biohazard AND saved a little girl, what's wrong if she acknowledges a higher power? Also, in CV, given the fact that she just lost someone that meant A LOT to her, and she found herself waiting alone helplessly in the back of a harrier while a self destruct system is active, would it be unusual for her to be crying and also saying a small prayer in such a desperate time for her brother's safety?
I never even implied she's a Christian, let alone a religious Christian, as she never mentions Jesus. She might have, at the very beginning of CV when the camera zoomed in on her lips (I finally figured out why they did that) coz right after, they show her stepping away from the bars of the holding cell, indicating a bit of a fear response, but I can't lip read so I did not include that in my analysis.
But my justification of her being GOD CONSCIOUS, not religious, but just believing in a higher power, is a culmination of all the evidences I presented and were visibly available in the game.
I sincerely hope that provides clarification of how I got to that point. Please let me know what you think, I would REALLY REALLY like to know your thoughts on this.

I did some reearch on an archived FameFAQs forum, the consensus appears to be that she believes in some hogher power, what that higher power is, no one knows.
Also, in ending of RE2, the japanese word used is "omamori" meaning amulet. so she is superstitious enough to believe that her jacket is like a magical amulet with protective powers. BELIEVE ME, I know EXACTLY the thought process of that line. East and south asian people have such "amulets" at MANY instances, and all of them with such objects believe in a higher power. And this is why, her having her hands joined and head bowed (i.e like a praying posotion) is consistent with her RE2 behavior in this way.
Anyways, REALLY looking forward to your response, and I really hlpe that clarified my stance that I am NOT calling her religious. I'm just calling her NOT athiest.
Zombie Brad is technically not an unlock, the moment you make him spawn, he's there, even in a first run. And if you did in Scenario A, he will spawn in Scenario B.

Just thought I'd let you know, my FINAL vid on the Original Claire redfield, covering what the Original Steve meant to her, is rendering as I write this...
I thought very hard about Alyson's claim, analyzing RECVX with a fine toothed comb.
Boy... was Alyson wrong... Much of what she said happens in DSC, and some of it doesn't even happen. Even in the unused voicelines, I couldn't find proof of her claim.
Some of the actual Japanese lines, makes it seem like Steve meant more to her compared to the English version.
For example, in the english version, Claire says "dont' you touch him!" In the Japanese version, she says "Give Steve (as in, his corpse) back!"
Then I realized, Claire is a JAPANESE character with an American nationality.
I also realized how different the DSC Game of oblivion script was, so much so that it told a different story, even in the dynamic of Clair'es relation with Steve.
Also, maybe Alyson Court, should play a villain... in something non RE related, as she's been in children's media for almost all her life... I also suggest which villain she should play.
I'm actually very curious to learn what you found about her character from the Biohazard 2 Japanese guide... coz she seems to be a bit childish, a bit of a child at heart (if she had a fallout perk) even in Degenerations.
Anyways, now, I move on to the Evil Within part 1. and OMG, what... a... STORY!!!

Hey man thank you! Yeah can't believe it's closing in on 3000. My voice is almost finally back to normal so I'm anxious to make a new vid soon. I don't have any real revelations about the characters, I mostly just want to present the books contents as they are. But I did find the backstory to Tony's Arms written on the handgun ammo box. As far as I know no one knows who "Tony" is, but I found out.

I presented Claire as a Batman character put in a Resident Evil game, coz in Batman, almost every character has incredible depth.
But I did see a few about chris, about Alexia, About Leon, and Rebecca, which I will check out. Even the one about Barry. I think Re Revelations 2 didn't need Claire, if she was gonna be a conduit, it should've been only Barry and Moirah.

Just an update on my next big video. My first comment is, "DARN IT! I'm roped back into this AGAIN!!!" LOL
I was listening to a couple of podcasts, 1 from crimsonhead and 1 from ROE podcasts. Both of them had Alyson Court on it. One of them had Leila Johnson on it and Richard Waugh.Initially, I was surprised how Alyson sounds almost nothing like CVX Claire Redfield, but more like DSC claire. but Richard Waugh still sounded like CVX and RE4 Wesker. :)
But Alyson mentioned something like "Sorry to disappoint everyone, but Claire saw Steve as a younger brother, showing him the ropes of surviving a biohazard. I don't know how it got presented. By the end, Chris came along and Claire got to be a younger sister again."
The moment I heard this, by behavioral analyst side of me came out, screaming, THAT IS COMPLETELY NOT TRUE!
Claire acts like a surrogate big sister to Sherry, Rani, and Moira, but hardly ever to Steve. in the original, for the most part, Steve holds his own without Claire. Steve saved Claire's life 6 times, Claire only did 3 times.
The way Capcom presented it, was that Claire actually started to love Steve, and this is one of the few things, S. D. Perry got right in her novelization of CVX
I was all set on finishing up watching The Evil Within part I complete edution, and then... this happened.
I'm going to make a video, finally answering the question, "What did Steve mean to Claire?" I'll try and keep it under 1 hour, including the guest appearence.

@@raccooncitycinema Hey buddy, yeah, Florida did get hit quite hard, especially in the west Coast, where there is a video of a SHARK swimming downtown in one of the cities. Durring Hurricane Matthew or Irma, we got an alligator downtown, but the west coast got a shark. Thankfully though, this time on the east coast of Florida, we were much safer. I didn't even lose any power and actually got to continue working from home.. I live 80 miles or so from Orlando, so we were good.
I don't think it was under Capcom's directives, considering she doesn't work for them anymore. I think this is true coz in another podcast (ROE podcast) she even discussed how much she got paid, along with other stuff, and usually NDA's prevent you from saying these things I think.
I think she got confused about CVX and DSC. The Claire that was more experienced and guiding steve on how to survive a biohazard was in DSC, not CVX. In the Crimsonhead podcast, she brought up something like "Claire was about to tell alexia what she really thought about her, after Alexia's big spiel, and then, it turned into a saucage fest." First of all, it NEVER turned into a saucage fest after Alexia's spiel, and secondly, Alexia's SPIEL was in DSC before the final battle, not CVX, where at the corresponding time in CVX's storyline, Alexia doesn't say a single word, and Claire is holding her chest. So, I don't know why Alyson got confused.
She did indicate however, that she enjoyed working with Wesker (Richard Waugh) coz she finds Wesker's voices to be very... attractive. I personally think Alyson court wants to try and play a villain, given she's been working with kids shows for all her life basically.

The S D Perry novel of the incident portrays Claire in a bit of a weird way, but even S D Perry understood that Claire also fell in love with Steve in 1 day, especially by the end.
I watched the youtube audiobooks of it, I can't find the last part, right after Chris finds a crying claire, so I don't know how this ends in the novelization.
Regardless, I present you with one thought... did people forget that MGS1 had also a 1 day love story, wait, actually, it was 18 hours. So why is the 1 day love story between Snake and Meryl, even if Meryl dies, acceptable to some people, but Claire and Steve's 1 day love story is not?
Needless to say, for me, that was the last nail in the coffin, that screams that Claire ended up loving Steve by the end. It cna't get more obvious for me :)

Yeah, I thought about recording in bits. the only free time I can do it is 1 hour before bed, and by that time I just sound exhausted, it's not great to listen to. Plus Japanese walls are thin so I have to be quiet. At least my littlest will start nursery school next year haha.

He voiced a character called the Cleaner I think and did some lines for the intro movie and ending, but it's been a few years so I could be mistaken

Thankfully, the hurricane lost its energyand downgraded from Cat 4 to Cat 1 by the time it made it to Central Florida (Melbourne) where I live, so it shouldn't be that mad. If I recall correctly, Irma and Matthew were far worse.

OK, I'm gonna do my usual thing and provide on-going commentary maybe, but here we go.
On #30 - Really? the director's cut of re1 had rebecca in booty shorts?
On #29 - I actually got this to happen on my re2 copy on the ps1. Interestingly, re2 was the 1st ever re game I played, but my elder brother had re1 on the pc, but I never played it, as being visually impaired, the pc monitor was too small, and the TV was about 25 inches.
On # 28 and 27 - Wow. I never thought of trying that myself, and I played the heck out of RE2
On # 22 - Ada has infinite ammo? and when I played, I don't recall Sherry having a first aid spray... or maybe she did, but I never recall needing it.
On 321? Hmmm. I never tried moving to another area when Sherry was left behind. In fact, I never tried outrunning Sherry... Interesting find.
On #10 - Yeah, I noticed that too. I always thought the box that was shown in the item drawing got filled, and you need a new box to fit more than 250 bullets. lol
ON #8 - Okay, I saw that in re1 as well, and my friend was watching me play. He said "Why do you need to climb stairs? Julst fly up there."
On #4- I always said this when Claire aimed the Colt SAA. "THAT'S NOT HOW YOU AIM IT! What will Revolver Ocelot say?" lol

In fact, when I started watching it, I didn't think much of it, but given the amount of hard work and additional material that went into it, I thought that this actually deserves a review from me, coz this work is that good, so I have to put in some hard work myself, as I just consumed such entertainment, basically for free.
I personally gave it a solid 8.6/10. It had a few negetives here and there, including one glaring one where they completely dropped the ball on making fun of what many consider is one of the dumbest and cheesiest scenes in CVX, but other than that...
The cameos, the randomness, it reminded me of one of the last things I followed in pro wrestling... the #Broken Matt Hardy gimmick made famous by the Final Deletion, where the gimmick itself was comedy through abrupt randomness. Much of it doesn't need to make sense, but dammit, it's funny!
BTW< for my next big project, my friend suggested I watch the clips of The Evil Within, something I never played or saw. I'm starting to see the cutscenes... I don't know if you played it or not, but so far... Man.. it's GOOD!

But little correction here :
You have swapped the conditions for obtaining the rocket launcher and the gatling.
And to get the rocket launcher, you need to get an A or S rank in the "A" scenario not B

The "shoot at the screen" thing was very well known of for decades, as the very first place you can do this at relatively easily/early on is the RPD's rooftop, the part where the water tank's wheel is used to extinguish the helicopter fire. People been shooting at the screen there as far back as 1999, and especially after Dual Shock edition's/version's release, as camera angles are very close and pointed very well towards the middle, and there's largely no enemies/obstruction.
Also, on the case of zombie Brad, very many people keep on making same mistake over and over and over again, for decades, even nowadays, including hundreds of self-proclaimed "RE experts", which baffles me personally. The said mistake being the fact that you can meet Brad solely *only* if you didn't pick up ANY items during the first sequence of running all the way through the city from the very start and right to the RPD's entrance. The indicator of you doing everything right is that two zombies in the garden disappear and only Brad gets left in the location, and that happens only if you didn't pick up any items whatsoever up to that point, on Normal. Also, Brad gets disabled (or, rather, bugged out) if you use *both* the infinite ammunition cheat *and* have secret weapons accumulated from previous runs, at the start. Indicator of that is the very last zombie in the starting sequence, the one in the dead end alleyway, right before Kendo's door. It'll disappear, which will make Brad's appearing flag not trigger, thus there will be two zombies in RPD entrance's garden, no matter what you do.
You don't have/need to complete the game at least once, to "summon" Brad, as in all actuality the only two conditions is that you play at difficulties no lower than Normal and you don't pick up any items whatsoever until the RPD's entrance. And no cheating with the ammo (this one's only in DS version, naturally).
P.S.
It's MUGnum to me and I'll never ever recognize it as anything else, no matter what anyone says. It's 9001% cannon now. Deal with it, y'all.
