  • Join me as I treck up Kilvey Hill, Swansea's largest urban fringe woodlands - which commands stunning views over the city and Swansea Bay, before going on to explore the remains of the nearby Hafod-Morfa Copperworks.
With overseas travel still impossible, this Vlog is based on walkabout discoveries made during lockdown and the fascinating history that's on our doorstep. It's a chance to see our surroundings with fresh eyes.

All UK Copper Ore imports came into Swansea Bay. The odd one out was Red Jacket Works on the East bank of the river at Britton Ferry. All the other works were on the banks of the Tawe. Hence the name Copperopolis

ICI Landore was the name of the works before the merger with Yorkshire Imperial Metals. ICYC was the nick-name of the place after this. "Where are you working?"
    "ICYC!"

The hill was our playground when young.it was quite bare as well not as green as today. The photo of the security guard at the gates of the Yorkshire IMPERIAL METALS IS MY Father-in-law who worked there all his working life until they closed.

Used to go up there regular when I lived in Boneymaen. I used to try and take the steepest now and then past the totem which was along the right side edge and up.

I live in Bon-y-maen and Kilvey Hill is just 5 minutes away on foot. We are so privilege to live next to a biodiversity spot...

@@JayCurtis I agree with you. We are very privilege and lucky to swim in nature walking five minutes from our door step. I strongly encourage you to walk up the mountain.
